Not sure if there is another thread already related to this topic, but...
What do people speculate is the future of porn given the rise of piracy?
At the moment a studio can not produce any new material without it ending up on the torrents or tube sites within a week. If production companies can't make any money, what does this mean for the future of porn?
Some consequences are already demonstrated in the very evident lack of good new material being released. Even Jules Jordan's and Elegant Angel's offerings are lacking what we all desire. Has it really come to this? Do we really have to wait for the once yearly BWA's or Super Star September from EA to see something we really like? Jules can't even get a DP out of Amy Reid or Chastity Lynn. C'mon!!
What does the future hold? Will we revert back to spanking it to magazines, since you would actually have to buy them? Will all companies just have secured pay-sites, preventing all the content from being downloaded so they can maintain exclusivity?
I have the same question about all other forms of digital media.

It's not, it's thriving given that filesharing doesn't have a significant impact on its profits.

Not for me quality is quality and piracy never lives up to it, if it's not sound it's picture quality and rarely do you get to see the upto date stuff. I believe the market may become smaller as a result but the quality will remain high for those people who purchase but obviously there will always be a market for those who prefer or don't care about inferior quality porn.

Porn isn't dying, it's in a transition phase. The internet is like the wild west now, with little regulation. Watch and see if the "powers that be" start taxing and regulating the content of what's delivered over the internet. Where there is money, the tax man will follow. Sure, it won't be like the FCC, with it's rules, but I'll bet we'll see some sort of regulation of the internet in the future.
Porn will continue into the future, just like it has existed, in one form or the other, for thousands of years.

People still pay for porn, but not like the did in the past. The newer generations are more savvy when it comes to finding it for free via torrents, tubes, fileshare sites, p2p, etc... All of this topped with a lot of material just isn't the tape it's recorded on doesn't help matters. And even above that, the old school way of selling subscriptions is nearly extinct is the icing on the cake.
While some people may still want to buck down $30 a month for a subscription, I think most people would lean towards the Itunes model, which is pay for what you want at a fair price. No rebilling, no shady hidden fees, etc...
In my opinion, here's how the majority of people are surfing these days :
1) They go to a site they enjoy to see the latest updates.
2) They google that update in hopes of finding it for free.
3) IF they can not find it for free and absolutely must see it asap, they join the site.
I used to make living as an affiliate (which is someone who promotes websites in exchange for a percentage of joins I bring in) but these days, it's tough. The reason is if you google any site/update, all the links on page 1 are places you can get it for free. So why pay?
Anyway... that's my rant.

The entire entertainment industry is under seige because of piracy, it just that Porn is getting hit worse. The reality is that DVD / Blu Ray (Porn and Non Porn ) will be gone within the next five years. Any entertainment you want will be streamed to your TV or PC.
Indiviuidals are willing to pay / stream a whole movie that lasts two hrs, while in porn an individual can get their need quickly so free sites will prevent individuals from purchasing porn.

Well it is not only because of piracy it has its impact but not all the blame , besides it isn't very clear whether it is dying or simply contracting you can't expect the market rising forever, at some point it will stop , that point has been reached ,now it is over its top and diminishing to a more regular size.
Other than that many gonzo productions are almost always the same there are already those who do focused porn or different porn such as Jay Syn.
The rising and the flooding of parodies and celebrity porn is another sign of this change of the market people is still buying porn but a different kind of porn , same for Nica Noelle's featured porn (which is currently my favorite ) it's different and apparently sell.
Another point is the research of "true" love in porn which means lots of customers are in search of homemade porn or at least raw porn something uncut which gives the impression of "true" sexual attraction between performers.
Another point is fetished porn all those who want a niche porn won't buy DVDs to find a scene they like every now and then , as of today they join a site focused on their fetish download anything they can in a month or two and then leave they rejoin every three or four months to stay updated but no longer buy DVDs unless they're focused on fetish

Now you can add piracy to the equation
and you must add some insane prices out there , those living in big cities can choose and buy or rent almost anything on the market , but in small communities there are sellers charging 60 or even 70 bucks for outdated porn sometimes they are the only retailer in a hundred miles.
Also there are places where bigotry dominates the scene and so no one would risk to be caught buying porn so the internet would be their only chance if buying porn through mail is allowed ,
If not this would push people to piracy they won't buy porn anyway as of today there's no need to take the risk
