I love Red Light District, but I am looking at the release schedule and for upcoming movies they are as follows: 8/11, 8/13, 8/18, 8/20, 8/25, 8/27, 9/1, 9/3, 9/8, 9/10, 9/22, 9/29, 10/13, 10/27. It seems they are releasing so many movies in such a short span of time. I was just wondering if anyone thinks they will overexpose themselves and burn out in the fans' eyes. I think one movie every two weeks is a good idea since they have so much directing talent, but movies every 2 or 5 days is a little excessive. Just my opinion, but wondering what everyone thinks.

I think the same way, they already have a solid number of fans, but a new release everyother way is not very good
They are distributing movies for many different production companies (each of the directors own their own movies).
Is the fact that they are all released by RLD different than if they were to all release the same movies, but each from a different company? There would still be the same number of movies released. They would just have different labels.
I'm sure that some "revenue stealing" takes place with the glut of new movies. But, that too would still take place if the movies were being released by different companies.
Red Light District has too many directors and they're releasing too many movies this will only hurt them because they also use the same guys in every movie and I don't believe in that kind of overexposure.
I think Red Light District is going for quantity instead of quality.
Well, if you pay attention to the business model as explained here, Red Light is not a single entity -- it's an umbrella, under which various different directors make their own stuff and release it. So, whether RLD existed or not, all the same directors would be working somehow -- and all the same porn studs you think are overexposed would still be overexposed.
I agree that the "brand" has a bit of assembly line to it, but all it takes is the ability to read a box cover to decide what's probably going to be a winner (either because of the director or the cast or the theme). "Multiple POV" kicks ass. I'm betting "Sport Fucking" will be quite good as well. They get the new girls into view faster than anyone else, and the best of their titles have great energy. I'm glad to see that when I go to the video store, I have so many options. True, for me, their DVDs can be hit or miss, and my preference is more for the artier/quirkier Evil Angel stuff, like Joey Silvera's lines, or some of Brandon Iron's original thinking at PXP, but for bread-and-butter (and jam) and poppin' fresh "D'oh!" -- RLD is in the money. I have to say the quality of RLD's series has improved a lot since they first got started -- so I don't think quantity effects quality, quantity just effects your wallet.
Let me start by saying,"Great Topic", When I first started "Red Light District" with "Two" releases a month, One owned by Red Light District, and one owned by Vince Vouyer, I new for me to have a Building, full time Shipper,Accountant, full time bookeeper, and Etc,I knew Two movies wouldn't cut it,so I said we must go to 4 Videos a Month, release one every Monday, Give the Distributors a full week to Distribute this Video, before the next Monday came with the new Vhs and Dvd, but before I did it, I said we must keep our movies Fresh and different from the last title that was released, as long as the directors wouldn't put the same girls over and over in all our videos, I felt we had a good chance of making it, so I decided to send the directors all over the world to fine new girls, because God knows theres not enough new girls in L.A. to shoot 4 new fresh movies a month, so we did this formula, and Thank God it worked, things went better than expected,at Red Light District from day one it was always about Quality and not about Quanity.
So things when good, our formula of coming out with Vhs and Dvd on the same day was great, I feel this is why we got our edge, people started really looking at Red Light district as a top Gonzo company, and we got support from our fans, with this directors such as Mike John, lexington,Everhard, Brandon Irons, mason, mike Stefano,Jules Jordan,Peter North, TT Boy,jewel Denyle, and many more who wanted to own and not just work for a budget, when this route, and it when good for these guys and product was being produced better than ever, look at what the marriage between Jules and Evil Angel, its going great for both of them, isn't this what its all about sharing the wealth. so if the new Tom Byron video that came out this week or the new Mike Stefanio video that came out this week, and than theres the two Red light District movies that came out this week, if they all came out on the same Label or 4 seperate labels, would it matter,I say no, theres about 70 videos that come out a week between all the companies, "Red Light District" comes out with two of those titles weekly, I believe that by the more that comesout weekly, the only ones that get hurt are those who make inferior product, and that is the way it should be,once again the Fans win, and I for one, couldn't be happier about that."My Fucking grammer really sucks"
As far as the same guys being in my movies. yes you will see Erik Everhard, lexington Steele, Mike John,Steve Holmes, Mr Marcus, Darren james, manuel, Mike Stefano,Dick Deleware, Mark Ashley, mr Pete,Cladio Meloni, Roccoforte, TT Boy,Toni Ribas, Brett Rockman, Scott Lyons, Lee Stone, Jon Dough, Brian Pumper, and many more,I think this is a nice variety, and for the ones that only work for Red Light District, and Platinum Pictures, I think there as good as it gets,I think Stefano and Everhard deserve to win Avn performers of the year, I for one will do everything in my power to make this happen.
In closing, I think Red Light District is better than ever, I think the best stuff is yet to come out, for the newer companies such as Platinum pictures, Zero Tolerance, and Dvsx, you guys are all making real good stuff, I for one wish you all the best, keep up the good work so all these great fans can have the best porn ever, this was a tough summer for all of us, lets hope we have a good winter and remember to save your money, because summer will be here once again, for those companies that are making inferior product and ripping the fans off, lets hope they all go out of business.
God Bless America and Skeeter Kerkove who is doing a great Job,To all "Adult Dvd Talk" Members Kudos to all of you, I truely respect all of your opinions, with out you there would be no Red Light District.

No wonder we hardly see any new guys, it's not because they can't perform but it's because companies like RLD would rather use the same guys over and over again. It's like one big clique.
I know everyone has their own opinion but I am much more reticent to buy a DVD with new guys than I would be if I see a Lexington Steele or Erik Everhard name on it. I know the quality of performance I am going to get with those guys versus some unknown and I have some "brand" loyalty to those guys, for lack of a better word. Now if a new guy consistently turns in good performances I will have no hesitation in purchasing something with him in it. In the same way I am much more apt to buy a Mike John directed movie than say some guy who has no resume to speak of. The only aspect I want fresh is girls, give me new girls doing the top guys like RLD does and I am happy.
If it was up to me, I would release more titles per week!

Too many titles? What are you nuts? Keep em coming Dion! There are so many different lines from RLD with different themes. They have something for everybody. Still people are complaining. I can't figure it out.
I suppose I see your negative as a positive. As companies lock up more & more male talent on an exclusive basis it forces all the other companies to open up the door and bring in new male performers. That can't be a bad thing. As for the topic. I guess you can only burn out if you are buying everything RLD or any other company puts out. If RLD releases 8 titles a month I'm only buying the ones that interest me. I see what RLD is doing as trying to please as many different areas of porn interest as possible. Ramsey wants his IR videos with as much DP& DAP as possible while I could care less about the IR aspect and am looking for g/m or g/g/m scenes. Covering all its bases, RLD manages to make us both happy.

do you have plans to make a movie with jap chicks?? if so get some lingerie on those girls and some interacial action..now that would be a must have!!!!
I buy a lot of porn and I love the gonzo genre, but I own very few RLD titles. IMO, a company that releases as many titles as they do should have more movies that are head and shoulders above the other companies, but they don't. They should cut back a little and only use top notch girls in every movie, but that won't happen because people will buy movies that have a couple of ugly girls in it, or a couple of below par scenes as far as action and heat go. Also, I don't mind them using the same dudes in every movie, but it would help if they stuck to the top guys instead of throwing in a couple of scrubs in every movie, if you know what I mean. Stick with Lex, Erik, Manuel Ferrera, Brandon Iron, Brian Pumper. Does Steve Holmes have to be in every movie? I sure he's a nice guy as evidenced by his posts here, but he's in every RLD and PXP release. Maybe a little change of scenery or format once in a while would be nice. Throw some costumes on the girls like some fetish wear, leather, or rubber, and have a little tease first. For example, when did you ever see a girl dominate a guy or girl in a RLD release. Other than one scene in the I Love It Rough series on PXP (which I love by the way), there is zero variety in most of RLD or PXP releases. Instead we get the same couch in every scene, I'm surprised the couch doesn't get a starring credit on the box of every one of their movies. A few nice locations, mixed in with hardcore fucking would be great. Just look at what Evil Angel did with Fashionistas, combined gonzo with costumes, great sets, hard sex, shot on film, it was awesome. From what I see it's get them out as fast as they can, not get them out with the best action and girls possible. I've seen some good action in their movies, but very few titles that had good heat and action that lasted an entire movie.

Hey Dion, let me help a little.
Top 100 current best selling DVD's at adultdvdempire.com
I was looking at the numbers that takeoffeh put up, and I just will never understand what the fascination is with Vivid's product. It just beats the hell out of me.
I was reading the debate over why RLD seems to work with a pretty exclusive bunch of male performers, and I look at it like this:I only expect certain things out of the male talent, and either they can perform, or they can't. After all, I don't buy the movies to watch the guys. So, in that regards, I would prefer to see the same 10-12 guys, where I know they will give a good effort every time.

I haven't seen Lex's or Erik's movies since they went to Red Light, so I can't speak of the quality, but on a business end, since each movie each week is from a different director, it's like a different product.
That would be like saying that Paramount Pictures couldn't release two movies in consecutive weeks even if one was a comedy and one was a drama. Different directors produce different things. The fans will decide if it's overkill or not.
Oh, and Tommy. A spelling bee champ AND a beautiful dick? hmmm... nice.
This doesn't mean anything since ADE is boycotting certain companies/titles and I'm sure Evil Angel would be on top if Stagliano and co would make more movies ;-)
Tricia, why are EA titles so expensive at ADE? Most of them sell for $27 each.
Do you guys sell the movies to them for more than other companies?
All Red Light titles are only $20. That's More Bang for you Buck!

They are releasing 4-hour comp DVD's for $12.95
That's the only reason they are on the chart. Red Light has 19 new titles in the top 100

M.B., what studio has a super hot chick in every scene? Outside of Grand Theft Anal that was released a couple weeks ago, I can't think of any DVDs in my collection where every scene is great. There are always a couple of scenes that I won't watch whether it is Red Light Dist, Zero Tolerance, PXP, Ana/Dia, DVSX, Siniplex, Evil Angel, Seymore Butts, or anyone else. To me I can think of 30 or 40 DVDs in my collection that I kept just for 1 scene. I think us porn fans have to focus on the good and not the bad. I think the world of porn is just getting better and better. I think Dion did alot to raise the quality of porn all together for all the porn studios.
There are plenty titles in my collection that have good heat throughout the entire movie. Not every girl has to be a stunner, but if she's not she better put in one hell of a performance. I would never buy a movie for one scene, with the amount of porn coming out today, I'd be broke real soon if I were to buy movies just for one scene. I see nothing ground breaking about RLD's product and to be perfectly honest, the stuff the guys that are now there were shooting better movies when they were over at Anabolic/Diabolic, who by the way is totally off my radar now, I havn't seen one of their newer releases in a long time. Maybe I expect more from porn than most other people, I don't know. But there is tons of stuff being put out by RLD and I just don't see a whole lot of it being all that great. Maybe mediocre is the word I'm looking for.

Scott- That's a completely different topic, but I'm too hectic right now to start a new thread. Sorry.
Evil Angel is one of the few companies in adult that has a specific price structure that we NEVER break. For example, if a distributor/store buys more than 100 copies of a movie, they will have a certain price. If another buys 50 -100, they will have a different, slightly higher price. and so on and so on. We do not wheel and deal. We simply make a product that we hope people will want to buy lots of copies of. The more copies they are able to move, the cheaper their price will be from us. If you do a price search here at ADT for a RLD title, and then for an Evil Angel title, you will probably see a similar pricing trend among the stores as far as who's cheapest and most expensive.
My take on pricing,I feel the wholesale price I charge for Red light District, is very fair, as for Evil Angel, there stuff is the most expensive of all the gonzo companies, and I feel that is the way it should be, Evil angel is the best Porn Company in the world,If Evil angel were a car, it would be a Bentley, I'm very happy being a mercedes benz,John started Gonzo and he has only bettered Evil angel through the years, hat's off to john and tricia, damm Tricia stop posting that picture of you,I have a wife, I should'nt be having these thoughts.
I just saw Erik's Sport Fucking movie today and it's pretty good. My only complaint is the huge amount of pixelation or artifact (I'm not sure what it is you call it, but when there is quick movement on the screen you see a lot of cubes/squares/fuzziness, especially on close ups). The picture looks fuzzy and unclear when there are quick movements combined with a close up. The bigger your TV screen the worse it will look, I only have a 27", but I could imagine what it looks like on something bigger, probably not too good. I've noticed this on the last couple of RLD releases, somebody over there should take a look at their most recent recent discs because I don't remember seeing there older stuff looking this bad. It's something that should be looked into. If I was considering buying this movie I probably wouldn't do to the bad picture quality of the disc.
Ha ha, with all the fine babes that pass through RLD's doors daily...
And that's not knocking Tricia, who's quite beautiful.

I'm a big fan of RLD. To me, the business model is pretty clear. They're grabbing market share by putting out a wide variety of themed titles and by maintaining a pretty consistent level of quality at a price point that makes their products more accessible to the bulk of the market. Evil Angel probably puts out the best overall product, but purchasing one of their titles is a little bit more of a financial commitment.
I agree that there is more than likely some cannibalization of sales from the various product lines being released so closely together. There are ways, however, for RLD to mitigate that effect if they are so inclined. The obvious step, which they're already doing, is to space out the release schedule so similarly themed titles don't come out the same week or month or whatever. Brand New and Just Over Eighteen come to mind, or No Cum Dodging Allowed and Swallow My Pride. Duh. Like I said, that sort of thing is pretty obvious. But a less obvious step would be to tone down the RLD brandname and promote the brandname identities of Mike John, Erik Everhard, Vince Vouyer, etc., thus encouraging the consumer's perception of differentiation among the various product lines. More individualized boxcovers would help too, which Lex seems to do a good job of. Evil Angel is the model for this concept. Although one might see a thread of similarity among their boxcover designs, Jules, Joey, and JS are their own brand names and nobody confuses one for the other. The importance of the Evil Angel brand name on top of each director's brand name seems to be as sort of a gold standard for quality.

I believe that the amount of shelf space the video stores in NYC give a company tells a story on how well the campany's videos sell. I have seen some companies that have a lot of shelf space, companies that have varied shelf space over the years, and companies that get zero space. Private used to get more shelf space but get less now. This probably means that Private does not sell well on the gonzo market. Ditto for Extreme Angel and Metro. RLD, Anabolic/Diabiolic, and Evil Angel always commanded good shelf space so their movies probably sells well. The buyers are casual buyers as well as serious and knowledgeble buyers from the area and I believe is a good representation of adult video and dvd buyers. Since the prices are generally better than the best online prices, buyers are buying for quality and for getting the releases in a timely manner (I can get the releases on their release dates). Judging on the shelf space that RLD commands since its inception, RLD is doing very well.
There are many different business models -- from a few select releases every decade to many consistently good (but may not be great) releases on a regular basis. I think that Dion knows what he is doing and has a good business model. As long as RLD can maintain the quality of the dvd and video, keep up with the interest of the buyers, get the latest hot babes, have quality production and direction, keep up the advertisement, maintain the web page timneliness, and get the products out on the release date exactky and everytime, RLD should be set. RLD is one of the few comapnies that keeps the release date schedule well. Most companies do not even seem to think that release dates are meaningful schedules and some do not even bother to post the release date much less keep it. RLD is doing porn the right way and as long as the production values are kept, it should be successful.
I am looking forward to RLD's Double Anal Plugged out today and PlatinumX Anal Expedition out next week.
On a side note, I was disappointed in South of the Border as the babes were not all that attractive. Evil seems to have the cutest South American babes in their South American themed releases.
Dion thanks for chiming in so much and explaining your methods to market control. I am now a firm believer in shopping by director and not by distributor. Director A has the same vision whether he/she is moving companies or in a stable position, like say at RLD.
Dion keep pumping them out. Bonecrusher Broke a femur today, no not mine.
