My Sainted Mother once told me, "If you want girls to appreciate you, you must appreciate them," and I never forgot that simple, but wonderful advice. Unfortunately, with the exception of Mr. Sean Michaels, not a single other adult male performer EVER heard those words, always showing, imho, the UTMOST disrespect to their female partners by wearing, what has become the "standard" for men performing in adult scenes today, faded jeans, a colored t-shirt with pockets, white sneakers and "wreaking havoc" on the tender skin of most women with a splotchy five days of "grassy" growth on their faces. In contrast, the ladies of porn spend countless hours preparing for their filmed scenes, with detailed makeup sessions, hair styling, and assembling multiple stylish outfits and accessories for the director to select what he thinks will "look just right" for the scene he has envisioned. Thus, to me, it is both comical and LUDRICOUS for male performers, such as James Deen, Dane Cross, Xander Corvus, Manuel Ferrara, Scott Nails, Johnny Sins, Seth Gamble, and all the rest (except Sean Michaels) to show up in their latest Salvation Army/Goodwill garb, and in general, looking like they just stepped out of a San Fernando Valley Homeless Shelter!!! Now, I certainly realize that there is an unusually long delay between porn scene shots on the set for any number of reasons, but caused mainly by the more "established" male performers considering it a "rite of passage" to be late (I've been told), and that its extremely important to be comfortable, but NO ONE can tell me that a pair of khakis or dress slacks and a nice sports shirt, aren't every bit as comfortable as grimy-looking jeans and a t-shirt. THAT is how, to me, a male performer shows respect and NOT distain to his female counterpart--- by dressing in such a way to show "appreciation, not depreciation," to the luscious women he's privileged to ENJOY! In conclusion, I'm sure one of you posters will be tempted to retort with something like, "I really don't watch the men for my porn," as if my post is not exactly "straight," and to THAT, I will simply say, "I wouldn't be either, if the opening of a scene contrast between "sloppy" male and "classy" female dress didn't always look so COMICAL, and certainly NOT at all true-to-life."

Your last line said it all. Porn is not 'true to life". If it were, would the majority of porn guys be screwing these "luscious women" in the first place?
Dressing up is fine and dandy, but TO ME the way a male performer shows respect to his female scene partner is to treat her with care - give two shits about whether she's comfortable or not, communicate with her, pay attention to her. When guys lack that component, I can't watch them. Our society as a whole has become very relaxed in how we dress. I have a feeling the OP probably don't like that either. As long as you are clean and your clothes are clean, it's fine. It doesn't bother me in the least.

The Porn industry guys are mirroring society, most do it without even being conscious of it. I agree that guys should be shaven and not show up with five days of growth on their faces. If you look at a lot of our celebrities and athletes they are not clean shaven either. As to the casual dress, a lot of that has to do with the Hip Hop culture influence. Loose T-Shirts, white sneakers and faded jeans are all part of it. You touched on one thing that I am seeing more often now. Instead of the girls wearing stylish outfits, I am now seeing a lot more girls dressed casually, wearing sneakers, often Converse canvas sneakers, shorts and resembling girls on the streets, not high priced hookers. Personally, I rather see an adult performer look like someone in society, and not wearing some freaky, trashy outfit. The Porn industry is a microcosm of society, they imitate what goes on in the public. I recall 80s porn with virtually every adult actress having that awful, skanky bad hair which is what girls in that decade would copy.
If a performer of either sex is wearing clothing that is absurd in the context of the vignette then it is distracting. Otherwise, I agree with Savoy, fashion sense comes in far behind intimacy, respect and just plain fun.
This sounds kinda crazy, it sounds like ur saying that people shouldn't be allowed to have beards and they should dress in what you think looks good. Plus some of the people you named I've seen girls name as there favorites to perform with, so if the girls don't mind...
Porn sex is athletic activity. I expect the talent to dress for comfort, athletic performance, and waiting around several hours on set until the shoot starts. Comfort would be high on my list if I drove to a shoot in southern California summer desert heat without air conditioning because I can't afford AC repairs after buying gas. However, I agree they should shave, unless they're with women who like beards.
I've met very few guys who really like dressing up day-to-day unless going out on the town. I think Sean may be one of those rare guys who maybe does. Should be noted that Sean produces a lot of his own stuff, and so probably has more control over what he wears than other performers. Unless the role specifically calls for it, most will dress in something more comfortable for them, which is usually more casual or street. And really dressing up is a flair me, and I suspect a lot of others guys, simply don't really have. I know Lex Steele likes to dress-up occasionally. I'm sure there are others, but can't think of any right now. I think you might have to look for directors who dress-up the men and women more. There are a few out there.
As the OP, I don't think your retorts are getting my point, so I'll try again--its the "contrast" between the sloppy dressed male and the classy dressed female which "bugs me." It would be just fine if both male and female were dressed in "street" clothes at the start of the scene, BUT that very rarely occurs, mainly because the directors want the women to bring all sorts of erotic clothing to the set--Christian has a rather unique blog on this forum which chronicles in picture form ALL the various outfits and accessories which are "lugged around" from set to set by the ladies doing porn. THAT is where the scene gets more comical than sexy to me, seeing the women in beautiful stylish dresses and their male partners wearing Salvation Army "hand me downs." As for the beards, that would be OK too, IFFF they were full beards and not splotches of wiry hair, intersperced with open skin, which looks more like some "mange" disorder on a man's face, and which you KNOW irritates the HELL out of a woman's more delicate skin--Lisa Ann even commented on one of her live show appearances recently, that the four to five days of beard growth worn by the vast majority of male performers DOES cause much discomfort for her during kissing and "sexing" scenes, and even long after the encounter! NOW, for an example of JUST what I'm talking about, I recently saw a scene on Brazzers in which Holly Halston was preparing for a date, and of course, spending time putting on a beautiful dress, makeup and various stylish accessories---THENNN the door bell rings, and Holly, looking all stylish and lovely dressed to the "hilt," opens the door to find "GRIMEY JOHNNY" Sins wearing his "trademark," faded jeans and dark colored t-shirt, all ready for a "night on the town."
I don't think it's disrespectful to women at all for a guy to be wearing jeans and T's etc in a porno shoot because that is exactly how most real-life sex is. You don't typically come home from a busy work day in your nice clothes and fuck the shit out of your girlfriend. You both probably change into regular clothes, eat something, crash for a bit, and if you're both in the mood maybe. Hell, most people don't even fuck on the weekdays. Look at the fucking office at Brazzers. That is a complete fantasy, almost never happens and if it does often comes with a lawsuit. It's a fetish. It's what people wish would happen. The other time is in feature movies which typically promote the romantic, slow motion, music sex. This is hot too and it like gonzo has a fan base. All those guys Danl mentioned also do the scenes more dressed, but that is when the scene and director calls for it. Same goes for the women. Steve Holmes is a great example of this. Do you think Sean shoots all the scenes in porn where a guy is dressed up? A question for Danl: When you fuck your significant other, what are you typically wearing? Dress pants/shirt, khakis? Probably not. The majority of porn (gonzo) today is about young people in LA, having fun, and hot fucking.
@Danl It also depends on what porn you own. My entire collection is basically Evil/Elegant Angel, JJV, and some of my old Platinum X, Red Light stuff. Very rarely would either the girl of guy ever dress "classy". It was all latex, bikinis, tight tops, etc. What do you watch?
The complaints about porn are getting really detailed these days, it seems like people watch porn to find shit they don't like. Or maybe just to much in general. It's not some 5 star Hollywood DVD, as long as the girls hot I don't care what they wear, they ends up naked most the time anyway.
Its NOT the fucking I'm complaining about, but HOW the guy is dressed when he MEETS his female partner, and in that regard, wearing clothing that would fit more a homeless shelter setting than a date or setup to a gonzo porn scene is just NOT appropriate to me, UNLESS the lady is dressed casually as well. As for me personally, I would NEVER meet a lady on a date (at least, I never have) for a dinner, dance or even movie, unless I was wearing dress slacks and a nice CLEAN sport or dress shirt--even most night clubs plainly state some manner of dress code that would not allow the type of garb which 99.99% of today's male performers INSIST on wearing as a "rite of passage" for their gonzo porn shoots. Certainly, when both the man AND the woman are dressed leisurely then there's nothing wrong with faded jeans and a t-shirt--Hell, I wear them all the time, when I'm working on my car, or working with my lawn, but NOT when I'm "working on a woman!" As for it "just being porn," it sure is, and that's why I know what I like and dislike, and feel I have the right to express discontent at what I feel takes away from my enjoyment, as I would expect ANYONE to do!
Yeah, I got your point: just like any other movie, we need to accept the illusion as reality in order to immerse ourselves in a porn scene. That doesn't mean everything has to look like everyday life - see kabuki theater - it just has to meet our expectations. Your expectation is that the male will be dress up or down to suit what the woman is wearing. When he doesn't, you are unable to immerse yourself in the illusion.
And on that fateful day, the hatred consumed me... 1423 Posts 3/09

I find this a weird thing to pick up on to this extent. Yeah, I vaguely see the point, but I think there's a good deal of over-exaggeration and hyperbole at play here. Most of the guys I've seen wearing clothes at the start of the scene just seem to be wearing regular clothes... Not "homeless shelter" clothes, not "Salvation Army" clothes, just normal, everyday clothes. As for the splotchy beard thing, that happens to be kinda fashionable right now and deliberate. In the recent Wimbledon Tennis championship, housewife fantasy du-jour Feliciano López was seen shaving all his body hair (including his legs), but keeping this patchy beard in a kind of deliberate attempt for a "rough and ready" effect. It's putting a lot of effort into creating the illusion of no effort. Ultimately, to show genuine disrespect (echoing what others have said), is to be actually dirty, misogynistic in behaviour and the like. In regards to the subject matter of this thread, I see very little to be this upset about.
^^ @Danl You just said it. This is not going to dinner, movies, or dancing, or even making love. Those are completely different and the dress depends on the location and occasion. This is just fucking. It's fun. The girls want a guy with clean test/body, good attitude, hopefully in decent shape with a hard dick. Most of the time the girls are not wearing anything that you'd take a girl out to dinner and a movie in. They even call the clothes "costumes" because they are porn clothes. Are you saying an T-shirt and jeans with tennis is looking homeless? If so then the unemployment rate in the US is more like 90% rather than 9.2%. Also keep in mind Sean is in his fifties. You grow out of a certain look and Sean especially earlier in his career wore jeans and Ts. This is also just his style. Most girls like Sean not because of clothes but because of his classy personality. I've read a lot of threads and you are probably the only one that gives a shit about what male talent wears. I sometimes pass videos because the women on the covers look too ridiculous in porn clothes such as fishnets, corsets, heels, etc. I'd like to see more daily clothes, or no clothes.
Gentlemen: Quoting from one of my all-time favorite movies, "What we have here, is a failure to communicate," and its NOT the fault of anybody, rather a generational gap which simply can not be resolved. For instance, the ONLY person who seemed to back me up a bit on my "rant" was Dave Cummings. Dave grew up in upstate New York (Sarasota, I believe) and had I grew up there also, we would doubtless have been high school buddies, for we are close to the same age, and in all likelihood share very similar views re dress and social etiquette. Now, what I would REALLY like to hear is some thoughts from female porn performers and if they think i'm "off base" with this concern, or in the jargon of a much younger age group, many of them reading this now, "right on."
There are a few people that dress well in the industry. There are some who are total gentlemen. Sean Michaels and Brandon Longwood both fit both descriptions to a tee. That said, James Deen is really a sweetheart, and how he dresses is usually more about the type of scene and the "character" he is expected to play. Same goes for a lot of guys. The attire you see on screen isn't always from a costumer, but what they wear IS sometimes requested by a director.
As written and amplified, the OP reeks of paternalism, which, IMO, is simply a different manifestation of the misogyny the poster claims to dislike. Moreover, to call some of the jeans being worn today as "Salvation Army/Goodwill garb" reflects a stunning ignorance of contemporary fashion. The OP might have gotten more traction had its writer said something about the guidance talent gets from the director and the pre-production and scene set up. We simply have no way of knowing who tells whom to do what. I think the OP touches on a better constellation of metrics--timeliness and personal hygiene as indications of professionalism--that can be applied regardless of gender. But then, such an approach would be less conducive to the OP's underlying argument. In conclusion, if you want chivalry, go read some Chrétien de Troyes.

Nice eloquent post Doc, I like it. Can I call you Dr. Freud? I wouldn't take any of these threads too seriously. Somehow I think danl is laughing at some of the replies.
And I think it's as simple as that. Best I can tell, performers often wear their own clothes. Some productions have outfits readily available for the women, but rarely for the men, from what I've generally witnessed and heard. It does throw the "look" of some scenes off, but it's hardly a deal breaker to me. I like seeing men and especially women really dressed-up sometimes, but I know it's rare among most productions. There are some directors like Nic Orleans who seem to like to dress-up his talent, so you just gotta go find them. The recent "office" movies surely plays to it too. So I think whatever you need is generally out there, but you just gotta look for it.
NO! NO! NO!---I do get it and stand totally outnumbered on this particular complaint of mine, and as I've stated before it IS a generational thing, as I'm very likely one of the oldest posters here. As an aside, when I'm not pursuing porn, watching sports or gambling, I do volunteer work at the homeless shelter in my community, and believe me, with this recent unbearable heat wave, we are full to the brim with folks of all ages, including, as a retired Marine, I'm sad to say, many Viet Nam and Gulf War veterans. One of my duties in this capacity is to pickup clothes from various donation centers and distribute them to the homeless men and women who are staying in the shelter. These clothes, for the most part, are EXACTLY the type clothes worn by male gonzo porn performers for their scenes--faded jeans, various-colored t-shirts, worn tennis shoes and belts with various designs and buckles. Certainly, from time-to-time we get some really nice clothes, especially (and this has happened on several occasions) when a woman throws out her former boyfriend or husband's things before he can reclaim them, and calls the shelter for pickup arrangements. Thus, I KNOW what both the homeless and the male performers wear for their scenes and believe me, there AIN'T much difference. So, let's just agree to disagree on this issue, and contrary to how Morbid Thoughts wants to always portray me (and WHY?, he has some kind of vendetta against me is beyond my comprehension) I have a GREAT deal of respect for posters here and consider ADT one of the BEST forums around, and CERTAINLY the very best porn forum available. The fact that we don't always agree, ESPECIALLY with my posted efforts to get adult film directors to film sexy, shapely porn stars, dangling loooong all-white cigarettes between their luscious lips, in both gonzo and feature film character roles and bts "real life" interviews, is another example of a generational gap for the most part from somewhat younger ADTers and those of us who "grew up" during the apex of smoking glamour and acceptability, when both our television and movie screens were INNUNDATED with sexy cigarette smoking women, BUT that does NOT make ADT any less enjoyable for me.
See what I mean about taking things personally? *smirk* Considering that I have only interacted with you on the suitcase pimp thread until now. That was 5 years ago.
Morbid (smirk) you interacted with me in the past few days, not five years ago, when you sited my previous posts, and added your thoughts re them, is that not correct? HELL!, I had forgotten all about our interchange five years ago, until YOU brought it up.
BTW, talking about you in the third person, refuting another person's assumption about you is not exactly interacting with you. The fact that you forgotten about some post 5 years ago just means I have a better memory than you. Not surprising since you outage all of us.
Its porn. Its not reality. Both actors are paid to fuck each other on film for our sexual arousal and enjoyment. It has nothing to do with how they "feel" towards one another. They are paid to fuck and fuck well. That's it. Its surprising to me how many porn fans forget this sometimes. But even if it WAS real, I like my sex casual sometimes. I don't always get dressed up to undress. Some of the best sex I've had has been spontaneous, often on top of the kitchen counter when I catch my wife alone in the house. Class is a state of mind, not a brand you choose to wear. I think you may want to get to know women a little better in the real world. Some really dig the scruffy look.
We're either watching much different porn, or we have totally different ideas of what looks good or even decent. Other than some really low-budget stuff, that description doesn't look or sound like what I "generally" see in modern porn. Yeah some guys could or should dress a little nicer, especially if they're with a more classy company, but most dress casual and still look alright to me. I see homeless people often enough where I live, and their clothing looks nothing like what I usually see in porn films, even the bad ones.
There's not the clothing that struck me as "class" about him, it's his calm, controlled behaviour, never rushing nothing. There are some others in that category, and Blacked now has a line-up. White boys fitting in? Steve Holmes may be a pervert, but he's a classy pervert. There are this guy with english Oxford accent over at Brazzers too. His ass showing up on net mostly, dunno remember his name. Ramon Nomar and the wild but kinda innocent Marco Banderas, both on a good day, kinda fit the category also, if ya ask me. Oldschool: Julian, Joel Lawrence. Scott Nails, too, if not for smoking dope and showing up late to work and being reduced to a nobody by people over here. He was not a bad ass motherfucker when it came down to interfering with chicks on set. Because I know of a loaded bunch of guys without much class at all, shooting semen all over the place, so this was an easy task. If Mark Ashley could only get a decent haircut, he may fit in there as well. If Erik Everhard could only act a little less than a madman pumping pussy from behind, I'd pick him too. If Stefano didn't look like a gangster, yeah, he'd be in. Talon, if he wasn't that noisy with lips blown up by silicone.
He always dresses sharp, but more importantly, even after all these years he still keeps his body in good shape.

He's so slow on the proceeding - kinda takes his time. I can think of him as a dude that doesn't eat too much or eat too fast. There's restaurants and papers and no rush involved.
With Sean the way he dresses is only part of his persona it's mostly his attitude and the way he carries himself that give him "class". How the rest of the porn guys dress is mostly a reflection of today's laid back society were casual and whatever you're comfortable wins out over dressing nice. Particularly on the West coast. Most women on the other hand enjoy dressing up and there's much more fashion targeted at them to dress up or look sexy. that's why you so often see a couple where the girl is dressed to the 9s and the guy looks like I just gabbed something and threw it on.
What makes anyone think that Sean Michaels is necessarily classy? The only thing I know about him is: I ran into Mandingo at a porn shop in Torrance a few years back. He said that the blacks that work in porn are usually a close knit group, but Sean Michaels, in a position to give a hand up to any up-and-comer, *NEVER* hired him. I interpreted his body language to mean that Sean Michaels can't stand not being the biggest dick in the room. I could be wrong, but Mandingo thought it was odd, as well. A funny aside: When Mandingo said he didn't understand people's obsession with size and that he personally never thought about it, the whole store laughed when I responded "I am quite sure that you don't..."

I've heard for the past two decades that Sean is the definition of class. Ironically, class has no bearing on his performance, so I care about as much about any performers class status as I do their religious or political beliefs.
I don't really care how anyone in porn (or life) dresses, but re. Sean Michaels, I find he's one of the few big black men who doesn't spend the whole bloody scene talking down to and over the woman.
As I stated before the clothes are only part of his appeal for women. I tend to think for younger girls how a guy dresses is less important these days. But I suspect what so many are talking about when they talk about "class" with Sean Michaels is more about the way he carries him self and the way he handles himself around and with women. I'm pretty sure in the porn biz that goes along way in helping women feel comfortable with him. I can't think of any other porn guys who come off as smooth as he does...particularly behind the scenes.

Well, Sean is around 60 if I'm no mistake. I wouldn't expect him to act like a 20 year old. I think Sean has always been respectful of his partners. I guess you could call that a classy move. but I don't think being courteous translates to class. Class to me is more than being polite. When you go to a restaurant that is clean, is it classy? No class is quality, it's coordination it's appeal, it's character, it's the perfect confluence of qualities and character. I would also venture to say young people, like young performers. A 25 year old probably doesn't care what mle talent says or does to female talent. I also think if a young black male talent wasn't talking shit or acting a little like an ass, he would be called soft, gay or a punk. Ironically, I think there are bi and gay black male talent pretending to be straight, but that also applies to white talent as well. Sean may be the last we see of the "Gentlemen" in porn. Lex is the next oldest and Lex made his career out of over the top performance, face making and aggressive talk. Realistically, you got Sean on the right, Wesley on the left and Lex and Dingo in the middle.
Without a doubt, Sean Michaels is the industry's most classy actor. Both when he was young and now, always well elegant in his clothes, with gentle but firm/solid ways, and also I have not seen any other stallion fuck better than him. It's a God. Probably, Lexington Steele is closely in elegance and sexappeal.
^ I think most guys in the industry are bi or gay. Especially when the money slows down and they don't get work like they use to. I think most are gay escorts off screen. They are sex workers like females who are mostly bi. Money talks. The only thing I feel that stops most of them from doing gay work is getting blackballed in the straight porn world. I am not surprised.
