It's difficult to say because so much is so obscure. GONZO is dead, that's a fact. GG is retiring. LP/AV itself is just a platform where studios can offer their product. It is difficult to say how things will continue with EU Studios because it is a constant come and go. In the last 5+ years, there have been so many studios that have appeared on the scene and disappeared again after 1-2 years. Then there was a Latin America boom, which is currently also faltering.

Basically, GONZO and GG were the only two constants who were selling scenes on LP/AV.

Ok gotcha. Didn't have any idea about LP/AV being a platform, I imagined they were just a single site.
In my ignorance I thought LP/AV were very profitable given their never-ending influx of content (their trademark pissing gangbang double-anal scenes that literally EVERY European performer has done over the last decade) which is what makes this sad state of affairs more surprising. I guess piracy gets everyone in the end huh? Or whatever it was that got Grandi

According to his own words, piracy was not the big issue. Rather, it is a mixture of immigration of young girls from Eastern Europe to Central Europe (to study and work), a general economic upswing in Eastern Europe and, above all, OF. Girls use studio porn as a springboard for OF and demand horrendous fees. As a result, the costs have exploded and at the same time scenes with unknown girls are not selling at all.

The fact that 2 large EU studios have now given up within 2 years is quite a statement.

I'm confused. How's that a contributor to Grandi closing up shop? Isn't LP/AV based in Prague which is in Central Europe? Doesn't the girls immigrating there mean a wider pool of talent? Or am I missing something?

Eastern Europe generally refers to countries to the east of Germany. Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Hungary....Central Europe is Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium...

For producers like GG, this actually means a never-ending treasure trove of pretty girls. In recent years, it has primarily been the Czech Republic, earlier, in the 90s/00s, this applied to Hungary. Because of the different economic situation in Eastern Europe compared to Central Europe, for example, the porn industry was a lucrative employer for the girls. But the economic situation in Eastern Europe has stabilized somewhat in recent years, giving girls a better career alternative in their own country. At the same time, there is a shortage of skilled workers in Central Europe in some jobs, which is another alternative. And then there is OF.

So girls from the former Eastern Bloc have many more alternatives than girls 20 or 25 years ago. Because back then it was often porn or living in poverty/poorly paid jobs. And since the Russian war of aggression has also cut the pipe line to Russia, a producer like GG finds himself saying - I can't find any more girls. And if you go one step further and look at the girls who shoot for the Vixen Group, you can also get the impression that 70% of them are girls from Eastern Europe. You could be forgiven for thinking that there are also "new blood worries" in the States. And the girls there have even more alternatives.

I am no business expert, yet it seems like the business strategy for these porn companies i.e. Mindgeek, is pretty straightforward.

You have one mainstream site to showcase the pornstars. You bring the users from that site to your cam-site/ tube site i.e. Pornhub, where you charge a subscription to users so that they can interact on a more personal level with the pornstar, as on Onlyfans. These sites have some of the highest amounts of traffic on the internet. With the huge amount of web traffic, you should be able to generate interest from companies looking to market on your website.

To me, this is a strategy that would work for the mainstream porn industry. Yet, it does not seem to be implemented.

On one hand, these companies have multiple websites, with all these no-name pornstars, that more than likely do not generate a ton of revenue. Yet since many of the companies that own these sites are registered in tax havens (which is also a problem), they can operate with less attention from regulatory authorities, which is what these owners prefer.

Even for the limited number of mainstream companies that could advertise on porn platforms, the risks are too high.
Imagine an alcohol or cigarette company. If they were advertisers during the ExodusCry incident, they would've gotten raked over the coals because they are big multinationals.

To me AI is a fake thing, pretending what ever. I do not watch faked videos of porn performer. For example Adriana Chechik got an AI Site, but for me this is like talking to a machine, but I am human, period. As for companies, surely in 2020 the big game changer due pandemic, was or is Onlyfans. The girls can produce, editing and sell their own stuff directly on those sites. And a lot are extreme successful, seem to make so much money, unbelievable, got millionaires. On the other hand, the big loser seem to be the "old" porn companies, the big stars stopped shooting for those. The only exception are BRAZZERS, DP etc. and platforms like PORNHUB for selling and offering products. The mother company, conglomerate behind those is AYLO (formerly MindGeek) now, based in Canada. But besides BRAZZERS as a producer of porn videos, there is only a bit AdultTime IMHO. And that's it. A sad story for the porn industry.

But see a new article on Forbes about Ricky Greenwood, who is the master for featured porn movies. According to him BRAZZERS/Digital Playground and AYLO (company behind it), seems to tend to produce more big budget, more expensive porn videos, movies in the upcoming future. If this is what is next in porn industry, IDK, but it is a new fact. I agree, to me porn is porn and not a a movie with tons of dialogues, for that I can watch mainstream movies.

I totally agree, to me it seems just like this. All those OF stars, the names are all familiar can and produce partly like a "production line", some even daily shooting new stuff and selling it on OF or MV or whereever. And often they are callaborating with other performer for reducing the production costs like rent locations, paying co workers, the staff, whatever. And some are doing so week by week, month by month since 3,4,5 years. And the clever ones are unbelievable rich now, I surely cannot imagine for example how much millions big star girls like Adriana Chechik or Angela White or Riley Reid or Cherie DeVille made so far due this. They "are" their own company, bosses, CEO, CIO, COO so to say all in one They got staff, everything is long-term schedulded, working or letting work round the clock, 24 hours the day. So as a conclusion, you are right, all the will rest, remain are niche products or small niche companies, stuff like KINK, Gangbangs or other genre stuff which is not easy to handle, to manage, to organize, plan and to produce for 1 single performer only.

I'm not business major myself but let me see if I can explain Mindgeeks business model. Steal the content from various porn studios, upload their content to your tube sites, make money from that stolen content, all the while slowly killing those studios and when they are on their last breath, then buy them for cheap and have legal access to their content. Rinse and repeat until you own most studios but sadly because your business model was never one of creation but of destruction then there is no new content being produced because the studios making those porn videos are dead.

I suspect most studios started to advertise on Mindgeek sites not because they wanted to but because they would rather get a few pennies on the dollar than nothing at all. At no point in the history of porn industry as Mindgeek been good for the industry. Good for itself and great for anyone who doesn't want to pay for porn but never once good for the industry.

You do realise that what the industry loves the most is a no name person willing to do porn because that person's potential is unknown and most porn fans absolutely love that. The only thing more popular than that is when a more established performers does her first ( you choose the what) because it's one the things fans have been hoping for.

I refuse to join OF because if I can't see what my money will get me then I'm not interested but you appear to know a lot more on how things are so can you name me your top five favorite OF models that you are currently a member of their account or were in recent past but they can't be established performers who transitioned to OF because these women already had a fan base before they went the OF route and therefore were not unknown women.

I do not wanna mention names, but all ladies I was on OF within the last about 4 years or still am, were mostly Top performer even before. But since early 2020, I guess their fanbase on OF increased really intense. And some are shooting weekly a few times for years.

^I can't see why you can't name these women. Is it some kind of secret because if it isn't then naming them can only increase traffic to their OF account.

I'm a mid-sixties white guy who's been consuming porn for nearly 50 years.

If Studio Porn losing the war means the end of all the slimy tricks the porn companies/distributors have been using for decades, to chisel extra dollars from the consumers, that would be a good thing. In the old days it was box-cover models not appearing in the actual video and looped content within scenes, among other things. These dodgy moves have met their demise as technology advances and porn consumers become a bit more empowered via internet-driven information acquisition and sharing. Nevertheless this has merely shifted the goalposts as far as the porn industry is concerned. So now we have:

(i) Endless recycled content. Example - Dillion Harper only ever made one daddy porn scene (a strip poker scenario with Alec Knight) - however if you search 'Dillion Harper, Family Roleplay, Older Men' in a pay for porn VOD website you could be forgiven for thinking that the bountiful Dillion may have made half a dozen or more such scenes. This is totally on the Studio. Ms Harper got paid a flat fee for her single performance.

(ii) Paying for stuff when it could be free. If, like me, you are a member of a pay for porn aggregator website and you have taken up the option of paying a monthly premium to access a decent proportion of the website's content for free, you will still be scammed - and I don't mean via the fact that a decent proportion of all porn is crap and paying for that is foolish. No, consistent with the endless recycling of content, is that such scenes are being 'newly' released from time to time and these scenes, as 'new releases', are often pay per view. Nevertheless there are times when I can search the content available to me for free on the website and the same scene will be free to view. To a large extent this is on the consumer to 'beware' - and porn consumers need to 'beware' more than most. However, at times this requires an encyclopaedic knowledge of porn to suspect a recent PPV scene is possibly freely available; moreover it also speaks to the way the porn industry seeks to keep the consumer disempowered by limiting information. In the instance I have described an aggregator operating with goodwill would provide me, as a member who has paid the monthly premium, with the information that a scene, for which I might be paying to view, is actually available to me for free. This could mean the website would have to change its algorithms. Possibly this is an issue of cost but more likely the porn aggregator has no intention making things less financially risky for the consumer, because.

(iii) .as a member of a pay for porn VOD aggregator website, I should be able filter my porn searches by what/who I didn't like, but I can't. I can only imagine the porn industry already knows in its heart how little of its abundant content is actually liked by porn consumers, so allowing said consumers to filter away all scenes that are for genres they don't like, or mopes that are unwatchable, would mean that the number of eyeballs staring at Teen Fidelity box covers would fall off a cliff and whatever deal the aggregator has going with the Studio would be jeopardised. Although there may be 100s of millions of porn consumers worldwide we're all niche viewers.

Pornographers would like to think that all the dodginess inherent in their MO is just edgy free-market stuff and that it's up to each participant in the eco-system to keep an eye out for #1. BS. Porn, definitively, exists at the edge of convention and operates in the shadows - open-ness and transparency, critical features of a free-market, are absent. The amount of time wasted by a consumer trying to find and access decent content, legitimately, is criminally inefficient - mainly because the pornographers and their apparatchiks are deliberately opaque, misleading and deceitful.

If there is little sympathy for porn studios amongst porn consumers it is because their practices have never invited support. For a long time they held the monopoly on the production of pornography and we, the consumers, just sucked it up. The changing porn content production landscape still probably hasn't benefited the consumers - it's just given more scope to new rip-off artists.

Back to the OP - clearly I agree with a lot of it. However, I would say that way more than a few people would pay for high-end content. And by high-end I don't mean the banal VMG stuff. Any porn scene that starts with a voiceover screams lazy - inevitably the sex is as disengaged as the narration.

And because posts are always better with pics.

This is a scene involving Michelle Lay and Belle Bond (aka Nikki Cruz). It was recently released by Sweetheart Video in a compilation Best Of Legends & Starlets. The scene is available for purchase at Adult DVD Empire for $4.99 USD. If you are an Adult DVD Empire Unlimited member you could watch the scene for free on the video Legends & Starlets Volume 4, but the website itself would provide you with no clue of that. Recycled content. Opaque information.

Porn: the same rip-off as 40 years ago, just different tricks. I pay for it so I can complain.

According to the Analvids forum Giorgio is just retiring from shooting. He'll still be releasing scenes through his site just from other filmmakers. Apparently the newest one with Kaitlyn Katsaros is one such scene. Pretty good quality if you ask me! Hopefully they can keep it up.

So if he is retiring due different reasons, we have to hope that other directors will produce the same stuff as Giorgio did.

Sad to hear about this development. I am impressed by Greg Lansky´s journey. He lived in Europe and made the move to America and got a directorial contract to shoot for Digital Sin.
Do you think it´s still possible in 2024 to move from Europe to America and work as a porn director for a big studio ?

I'm not much of a Vixen Group expert but looking at their website, it looks like Little Europe in America. They employ one or two European directors and it seems that 80% of the girls are from Europe. This shows on the one hand that there is also a shortage of girls in the States, but also at the same time that you could work there as a European with a certain flair for art porn. And Evil Angel is also a mixture of everything and the home of many EU directors.

I suspect much like mainstream movies; AI is going to save studio porn because it will be positioned to have a far better grasp of what works and doesn't work for various porn scenes. It won't replace camera operators or directors or even performers but the idea is that with all the cutting edge data on the habits of viewers - the AI will know what people want before they even conceptualize it. I don't think it is on its last gasp but the next revolution to give it a jolt has yet to arrive.

To be honest, I think AI might *ruin* studio-based pornography. By and large, modern pornography is formulaic. Same girls, same themes, same acts. Little variations here and there, but to generate money they're looking for the lowest common denominator of appealing to as many as possible in hopes that, with enough consumers, they'll make it up in quantity of members/downloads/etc. Meanwhile, you have independent porn content creators doing commissions or one-offs, then posting it on ManyVids or elsewhere for high dollar amounts because the quantity of appeal isn't there, which means you're forced to charge more to the new people interested in that niche video.

The reason why AI might ruin *both* of these is, eventually, I as an individual will have the ability to have AI produce a video based on *any* prompt I give it. If I want a video similar to those listed in my Your Porn That Doesn't Exist Wishlist thread, all I'll have to do is prompt it using Midjourney-like terms and it will render a video containing the acts I desire. The *only* difference is that *the girls aren't real* but I'm not convinced (at least yet) that most people will desire porn with real actors over a video that perhaps fits their desires better but are realistically-rendered graphics. Maybe the future will prove me wrong. (And, one reason to think I'm wrong is that clearly there are some people out there who are paying for OnlyFans and thinking they're chatting with the real actor/actress, and if it was found to be AI it would surely be far less enticing to most.)

I don't think studio porn will have anything to do with AI. The advantage of AI is that I can realize my own ideas and fantasies. Studio AI porn would make no difference at all to the current situation. It would just be the same old guys, the same 3-4 positions and above all - it would be someone else's imagination and fantasy again.

In my opinion, AI porn will change pornography completely independently of studios.

Yes you can realize your own ideas and fantasies as long as you realize that it will not be with actual performers. It will be some digital image of an adult performer that is completely false doing whatever the consumer wants them to do which will lead more and more performers out of the fold. Why pay a performer when you can just hijack their likeness and export it over the net to your heart's content?

I don't see AI ruining porn truthfully, think of any search term you've typed into Google or any other search engine and watch the ripple effect on the ads you get or offers presented to you. AI porn will be very much the same way which is why I said AI will know more about what every viewer wants than they do and will be able to arrange more perfect scenes to cater to every taste.

The funny thing about this, "A.I., yes or no?" conversation is that it is more than abundantly clear that the majority of paid porn watchers do not want the performers to act like real humans. If realistic A.I. porn videos ever become a thing, I will be using them to create videos where the subjects actually act like people, instead of extremely low-I.Q. cartoon characters who don't enjoy the sex they have.

Dumb cartoonification is one of the biggest problems in the GG genre specifically, especially in the stuff that gets produced stateside. I can't wait to be able to generate videos with American-looking women appearing to have unbridled physically intimate sex. It won't matter that the videos aren't real considering that studio and OF porn producers almost never create candid human behavior content with the actual living people. If the actual people look fake most of the time - and with the mandated cartoon acting; the visibly not enjoying what they are doing from most performers; and the silly Pornhub-driven surgical alterations, things do look generally extremely fake - what's the material difference between real and A.I., outside the idea and *ideal* of employing people?

Less employment is really the only drawback, assuming video generators will eventually achieve fidelity.

The best thing about studio porn is the back catalogue. Compared with their past every porn studio is now just going through the motions. While it is inevitable that most scenes/features will be the umpteenth iteration of some porn trope or other, the sheer lack of energy in the current storylines and direction makes for tedium. It's often better to go back to the earlier versions of the same thing, when everyone involved seemed more excited about what they were doing.
