How many women do you guess are actively involved in the Adult Industry right now? The number is inestimable! Why would any sane person believe that any group of people that large and divergent would have to have any common traits?

I'm quite sure there are alot who have been victimized in some way (for those of you who have watched too much Howard Stern)- victims often emotionally separate temselves from the sexual act, which would make performing easier than for most of us. I'm also quite sure there are a good amount who are excited by the chance to perform - the lure of the camera, perhaps exhibitionism. And of course , there are those that are interested in the financial gain if they work hard and smart, promote themselves well and catch on in the industry. Add to this those that are simply libertines enjoying their sexuality and you have most of the motivating factors.

But to assume that there is some underlying commonality is just suggesting too much to be accurate.

I don't think there are a higher percentage of performers who were abused than the general populace, however. It's just much easier to ask (and maybe get an answer) about an adult film performer's sexual history than it is, oh, let's say, your lawyer's.

So you've got a huge number of women in American porn. The group is too large to be all the same type of person, but I also doubt that starlets would count as a "Random" sample of American women. ...Meaning there are probably several types of women whom the porn biz draws from heavily. And those types of women would be more represented in porn than in the general population, I'd wager. We've explored negative things like the abused child group, but there's probably other categories of starlet that haven't even been identified yet. Like an "acting out after being invisible in highschool" group, etc. Or a "Renee LaRue" group of women who come to it later in life and bring a wealth of sexual knowledge and enjoyment with them. There's a posse of women who'd fall under "I'm doing this so I can feature, and I'm getting out of movies as soon as possible." Then there's "The Lifers" like Taylor Wane. Etc......

I'd like to know what's going on in Czech, for example. That country is being mined for flesh, and the supply seems ample. What is it about that country? Do they have a national psychology that makes it more acceptable for women to get naked for the masses? Do they have a tradition of being aggressively romantic or pro-sex & exhibitionism? And aren't tough economic times at least part of the reason why so many are turning to porn? I mean come on. That has to be part of the equation, right? (And I don't want to turn this thread into a sex slavery discussion since that's already been done. I just mentioned it because the "poor country" comment was taking some heat and the dude may have had a point.)
