It's a pretty sad story filled with hardcore drugs, STD's, sexual abuse, and family issues. She has now found God.

I'm glad she found God. But has God seen the epic load Preston Parker sprayed into her mouth in her bigmouthfuls scene? Because that will make even God believe in God.

I'm no Jesus freak. In fact, I think organized religion is pretty ridiculous... but if she's happy in her life now, then good for her. Porn is filled with a bunch of degenerate scumbags. That's just how it is... but then again, so is any big business.
Shelly Luben is going to exploit the shit out of her... so good luck with all that.

Good for her. The porn world is a pretty awful place and if she finds happiness, that is a wonderful thing.
I'm completely irreligious but clearly some people need something bigger than themselves to latch onto to make it through this life.

She's one of the ones where it appears porn wasn't the worst thing to happen to her .. it was the best.
She threw away the chance to escape her background and slid back into a meth haze after leaving porn. I'm a little surprised to hear she's still alive.
Shelly Luben may exploit Jessi, but if she can keep Jessi off the hard drugs for a few months that's a good thing.

Jessi Summers was part of what I consider the golden age of the Gonzo era.
After finding out about her story, I'm curious to know if this changes the viewing habits of the consumer. If you find out the porn star that you like was sexually abused/came from a broken home/into hardcore drugs/etc.... can you still get off watching the scenes? I'm sure there are people reading this thinking if any of those issues give you a moral dilemma than you might as well stop watching porn because those issues are very common for porn stars.

It can be an issue in terms of getting into a state of "suspended disbelief".
Sometimes I can put such issues as firmly in their past and it's not a problem for watching a porno. In other cases the problems are in the present - for example, if her body shows obvious drug abuse (Naomi is an obvious example) - and there's no getting around the issue.
In real life would you take a girl life this home? You'd look pretty hard at the past issues but if it's in the past I can see it, But no way do you deal with a (current) meth-head.
Jessi didn't do much of the kind of porn I watch so I don't recall this ever being an issue with her.

From the "Jessi Summers Story" at Shelly Lubben's website:
http://www.shelleylubben.com/jessi-summers-story
Excerpt:
My young life was chaotic. I had an alcoholic mother and no father around. I was sexually abused for the first time at 4 years old. It continued until I was nine when the man that had been abusing me finally moved away.
At 11 years old I got myself up and got a ride to church every Sunday, I even went through classes and got baptized!
Unfortunately I strayed from the church and lost my virginity at 12 to my first boyfriend who was 3 years older than me. I soon became pregnant and had my first abortion. It was heartbreaking and I feel guilty to this day for it.
My teen years weren't much better. I was a good student but rarely went to school I moved out for the first time at 15 with my boyfriend who was 11 years older than me. Then moved back home until my mom decided she was moving to Reno to be with family and she didn’t want to bring me with her!
I continued to move from guy to guy to try and find love and to feel complete when God was waiting for me all along, I just didn't realize it yet.
At 17 I was hard into cocaine, and meth. I planned on either stripping or doing porn. To me it made sense. I hated myself so much and felt like such a reject that I really didn't care what the consequences of my actions were. I woke up every day wanting to die.

But, it was the porn industry that fucked-up her life [o\|]

No, but all of the above could help explain why she got into porn in the first place.

Yes, but really two different things.
It could just as easily explain why someone became a serial murderer or televangelist
Point being, it was NOT the porn industry that fucked her life up.

I remember Jessi Summers now, think i saw 1 scene of hers. I think you can tell the girls who are in porn for the wrong reasons.
Could be a new thread - what current pornstars do you think will end up on shelleylubben.com?

Isn't it commonly the performers who failed to achieve success and popularity who go on to bash the industry?

Agreed - and Shelly didn't go into all of Jessi's pre-porn problems (fending off her mom's lesbian wife, or the meth use that started at *14*, etc).
Porn offered Jessi a way out, and her time with Chico Wang may have been the *best* influence she had had to date (there's an alternative reality to wrap your mind around!).
If Shelly can help Jessi stay clean for a few months that's great. Others have tried and failed, and if Shelly doesn't address the childhood problems she'll fail too.

This is cliche bullshit from a girl who never made it in porn.
She more than likely got into for the wrong reasons, probably HER habit and HER family issues. Mommy doesn't love me Daddy loves me too much stereotype.
Jessie WHO is a girl who hit rock bottom so hard that believing in an fairy tale is the only thing that she thinks can 'save' her from the reality that is her fucked up life.

I don't know who Jessi Summers is or if I've ever seen her work but if I found out a current girl I like to watch had a bad childhood or past it probably wouldn't stop me from watching their stuff. But....if I found out they had horrible things happen to them making the actual porn I probably wouldn't want to watch it depending on what happened.
In my mind having a horible past doesn't automatically mean making the porn was a bad exprience. I'm not watching the girl while she's being abused or doing things against her will, I'm watching her when she agreed to do it and has the power to say no and stop things if she chooses.

I suspect you're right that some performers may have sour grapes, but I think the causation may go the other way.
Women who are conflicted about what they are doing-- who may suffer from emotional problems and self-hatred-- won't generate a huge following.
Compare Jessi to three women who've recently left the industry: Sasha Grey, Bree Olson, and Jenna Haze. These three stars didn't feel conflicted about what they were doing they generated a huge fan base, and I doubt any of them will ever say a negative word about the industry (in public).
Just compare these pics: Jessi's discomfort is obvious, while the other three clearly embrace what they are doing:

The best part of the story is when she says she received detailed instructions from God during the "mesculine" trance (does she mean mescaline? Or did she eat hallucinogenic salad greens?) -- and she ignored them. The bitch wouldn't listen. Not even to God.

One important point here is NOT to be hating on Jessi Summers.
The girl has obviously had a tough life -- that part is clear beyond doubt.
The despicable part is Shelly Lubben exploiting her (and others) to further her own agenda.

Going by that article, it sounds like Jessi would have never entered the porn industry if she didn't feel sorry for herself.

We don't know who wrote that article. My bet is on Shelly.
Even if it were her trashing the porn industry I'd be willing to give her a pass: even though a lot of her problems are self-inflicted now, it's hard to see any way for her to have avoided due to her background.
Charities can be an interesting thing. Trinity James was taken in by one several years ago to rescue her from porn. Turns out they were soliciting money to save porn girls then were paying themselves $80k/year and spending a few hundred per month helping Trinity ... it was a fraud.
(Trinity never complained about oorn as far as I know - she just took the opportunity they offered before finding out is was fake)

She posted about her background on myspace years ago, you know it was years ago because I just used the phrase myspace. She was never comfortable or seemed to be enjoying herself in her scenes. She doesn't take much personal responsibility for her party lifestyle of cocaine, etc. Either way, her background is a very sad story.

^^ It's a sad story, but I know of no reason to accept all, or any, of it as presumptively true. People tell all kinds of stories, for all kinds of reasons.
And I think there's ample reason to treat everything on Lubben's site as presumptively untrue.

Why wouldn't it be a dilemma? I would imagine it would bother any normal well adjusted person to know that x performer is only in the adult business because they came from a profoundly damaged background.
And not every girl that trashes the industry did so because they didn't succeed. As I understand it, Jessi did quite well when she was active and I know that Stephanie Swift was one of the top girls before she left and turned to God.

^ I wouldn't say that "Stephanie" is trashing the industry. Jesus loves porn stars.
To me it sounds more like, "I'm 100% done with porn. I was doing it for the wrong reasons, and I would like to share my story with any young people who are considering doing porn themselves."
Although she didn't say it in the video, I would guess she's grateful to those in the industry who offered support as she was dealing with her cancer.

So it looks as though it wasn’t porn that hurt these women so much as it what happened to them prior.
I think of it like alcohol...
Some use it to have a good time, change their state of reality.
Others are using it for the wrong reasons and it can take control of them and ruin them from the inside.
Neither are going to change what happened to them in the past.
I have seen musicians go thru the same thing. You need to have a suit of armor around yourself and those who get involved without one before they start can be open to injury.
I feel for anyone who had to endure a childhood like they have had and I hope they find peace in their lives.
I enjoy consenting adults engaging in sex on film for my pleasure.
There were people exploiting others since the dawn of time, it has always been horrible. But the point is, porn didn’t invent it or alcohol didn’t invent it. They may have both have been used to try to mask its effects for some but they serve a purpose to those who use them responsibly

^ I don't know that I would assume porn stars are more "damaged" than anyone else. But they are working with an element as powerful and dangerous as radium-- namely human sexuality.
Marie_curie.jpgHere's a poem by Adrienne Rich.
Power

Living in the earth-deposits of our history
Today a backhoe divulged out of a crumbling flank of earth
one bottle amber perfect a hundred-year-old
cure for fever or melancholy a tonic
for living on this earth in the winters of this climate
Today I was reading about Marie Curie:
she must have known she suffered from radiation sickness
her body bombarded for years by the element
she had purified
It seems she denied to the end
the source of the cataracts on her eyes
the cracked and suppurating skin of her finger-ends
till she could no longer hold a test-tube or a pencil
She died a famous woman denying
her wounds
denying
her wounds came from the same source as her power

Sex stirs powerful feelings in all of us: Feelings so powerful that we feel ashamed to share them in public. Those who shamelessly fuck on film have to deal either with their own feelings of shame, and/or the fact that society at large finds their behavior shameful.
A porn star's shame comes from the same source as her power-- namely her own sexuality, and the powerful lust that drives her admirers. Porn stars are no more damaged than Marie Curie... and no less.

Sounds like she had a horrible time in porn, which sucks, but the whole thing about finding God is ridiculous. She was hallucinating on mescalin and chose to believe the voice in her head was god, lol. God decided to finally save her... well why didn't he come before you had such a shit time in porn?

^ Yeah, it seemed ironic to me too.
For those who don't know, Adrienne Rich is a lesbian (2nd wave) feminist poet, so the power she alludes to isn't just personal power, but patriarchy.
She would find it either infuriating or deeply ironic to see her poem referred to on a porn board.

Do you know her personally? As far as comparing Jessie to Madame Curie, that's quite a stretch, don't you think?
Don't be so quick to knock people who claim to have found God or have had God speak to them when they are at their lowest point. Just because it didn't happened to you didn't mean it hasn't happened to them. Are you with her 24 hours a day? Indians had used peyote to have spiritual visions. It's no different than people who claim to have seen UFOs. How do you know they didn't? I used to think the same way until I went to a Billy Graham Crusade and listened to some of the testimonials. It's very enlightening.
I find it amusing also on this thread that people are quick to judge Jessi's belief because she found god and then on the other hand have the nerve to complain about people judging Sasha Grey beause she's a porn chick being around children.

This thread's a good example of the fact that many atheists are just as fervent about their lack of belief as religious people are about [insert their deity of choice here].
I enjoyed Jessi Summers' scenes way back when, but I can't say I'm surprised to hear about her background, given how many of her pre-scene interviews featured that strange mix of uncomfortable shyness and excessive chipperness that always tends to throw up warning flags for me.

I don't know who you're asking about, but I've never met either Jessie, Rich or Curie.
I didn't intend to compare Jessie to Curie. I intended to compare sex to radium, and mainly to refer to a poem, which I believe was speaking to a universal human condition: That the source of our power is also the source of our pain.
Still, maybe it was a stretch to see a hint of a universal truth in Jessie's individual story. Maybe it is a stretch to compare sex to radium.

I watched her scenes for BangBros when she was active in the industry five or so years ago. She had an incredible ass and body, despite her apparent health and dependency issues. I remember hearing even then that she was an alcoholic so this article doesn't surprise me.
I find it surprising how many users on here with hundreds if not thousands of posts say how bad the porn industry is. Why are you here? Are you simply addicted?

I'm just wondering how this girl's story is any different from 99% of the other girls who get into porn. Her experience seems pretty common for girls doing porn. It's just that most don't come out and openly admit it because they're afraid of the consequences if they say anything negative about the industry, such as not getting work, people ridiculing them, etc.
