Yesterday I was somewhat surprised when I opened my daily newspaper "Süddeutsche Zeitung" - for those not familiar with Germany´s print media landscape: Briefly said it is equivalent to what the NY Times manifests in the States!

Okay, the frontcover headline of their weekly magazine - SZ Magazin - was:

Jessicas last shooting - The lethal scene

The above picture is from that article showing Jessica in Long Beach.
(I saved the whole report on the link above, because "SZ Magazin" needs you to create a free account to get the complete text.)

Here´s a brief summary for those who do not have German language skills.
(Do not blame me for grammar and style mistakes, please. I am not an English native speaker!)

The report starts with an explanation how Jessica got infected with HIV at a porno shooting.
Then her mental situation is described and her decision stop crying about the situation, but she still does!

After that she says that "They want to get rid of me".
"A couple of minutes before Larry had told her that the shooting for SPERM Spites - her fourth movie as director has been suspended ... As always Larry couldn´t stand her tears. Larry murmurs: »Always this howling«. Larry is CEO of Platinuum X Pictures. ... »The adult biz is a tolerant business«, says Larry. ... »But one type of human beings are incompatible with the adult biz: Those infected with HIV«".

The next paragraph tells something about Larry´s and his daughter Jewel D’Nyle background.

Then the reporter gives a down-to-earth account about Jessica´s work as a porn actress.

A paragraph about her former agent Dick Nasty follows.

Next the reporter give his impression about a HC scene with Steve Holmes and Melissa Lauren, directed by Kylie Ireland.
The dialogue between Kylie and her husband Bryn Pryor is quoted word for word.

Then Steve Holmes tells the reporter about his background.
Until the age of 35 he has been a Manager with the Software industry and a company car. He lived in a wealthy area near Munich. From that former life only his wife and his two daughters have still left. They meet each other rarely, because Steve commutes Between the three porn centres Budapest, Prag and the Valley. He plans moving to Barcelona with his family soon. We are informed that he earns about 40000$ a month as director. When working as an actor he gets 700$ and he is able to do two scenes per day.

In the next paragraph a lighting technician talks about Jessia Dee as »collateral damage«. Steve is not happy about that expression. Then the lighting technician is quoted with: »The four movies she has directed have others done for her. Jessica Dee is history«

Next comes a summary about AIM and Sharon Mitchell.

Now the story returns to Jessica and how she got into the adult biz step by step leaving her hometown of Ostrava with the age 17. Her family background is explained quite in detail.

Now we getting informed that a fourty year old man married Jessica after she got infected with HIV.

Her current financial situation is getting worse day by day.
She has to pay 1000$ a month for HIV medication.
If that´s not enough bad news, now the US immigration and tax authorities accussing her with illegal earnings of more than 100.000 Dollars. Therefore she has lost her residence permit. Were she to leave the USA, she never could enter the country again!

The report ends with her saying she now wants to find out in what movie the DAP scene is used for having her life changed forever.

Sad, very sad about her!

Yes sad news but somehow i think that PXP seem to have other reasons to fire her.

According to the article and what Larry said in it they fired her because she produced too many movies in a too short time so they had to keep them in store and release them later but than the girls in these movies would be used already too much.

Sorry but 4 movies in 6 month are too much ?
And than Tim vonSwine wrote in the Teen Fuckholes thread that he had to finish that movie asap.

So maybee there are other reason why PXP fired Jessica.
Maybee someone can't stand/doesn't like her anymore or maybee the generosity of giving her a job as director after she got infected was only faked to let PXP/the people behind it appear as generous.

Calling someone infected with HIV »collateral damage« ?
Who ever the idiot was the should fire him.

Finally Steve Holmes should think twice about what he said about her because it sound at least a litte bit arrogant to me :
"Doch dass sie jetzt Regisseurin sei - ein Almosen, findet Holmes. Sie kann doch nichts, was andere nicht auch könnten."
In English :
"But that she is now a director - a generous gift, thinks Holmes. She can't do anything, what others can't do either. "
Well this sentence fits nearlly every director in porn including you.

What ever the real reasons are this story that PXP fired her because she shot to many movies is Bullshit.
It's time to stop buying PXP titles again for me.

Jessica seems to be in real trouble right now i hope that her live gets at least a bit better soon maybee with another company.

What a moron this Larry guy is showing no respect to someone who already has a very hard time. Once again I'm very glad I don't buy PlatinumX movies because I would feel very bad supporting these kind of people.

I was under the impression she married an American which would then make her an official U.S. citizen, so is it possible she can be deported even if she did do what the government say's she did?

I was under the impression that Jewel had sold off her stake in PXP. It's all run by David Joseph, is it not? Someone correct me if I'm misstating anything.

skronker,

Jewel's parents still run day to day operations I think, but the RLD guy just gets the ownership profits.

This story makes NO sense to me from what I know to be true. The story seems to claim Jewel's father said Jessica was let go from PXP because she got HIV. That's complete non-sense. Jewel didn't give Jessica the director position until after Jessica got HIV. I don't know if this was just a horribly written story or if there was a mistake in the translation.

My suspicion is that Jessica got caught up in the downward spiral that so many of the performers that got HIV before her did. I wish there was a group who's purpose is to assist performers who get HIV to cope and continue their careers after HIV. Maybe this group could pair them up with past Stars that have come through it. I don't know maybe it's just another 1 of my impossible dreams.

Jewel's dad is still the General Manager of PXP. Last Saturday, Bono and I talked to him for about 20 minutes. I found him to be a very nice man.
I don't believe this quote for a second. Jessica had already contracted HIV prior to being hired by PXP. So, it's not like she was a performer/director who can no longer perform. If PXP had this attitude, they never would have hired her in the first place. As is was, they took a huge chance hiring someone who had absolutely no directing experience in the first place. I would bet that she didn't even have any directing aspirations prior to becoming HIV+. So, unlike other first time directors, who have likely been paying attention to what other directors do, so they can learn from them, she was probably starting completely from scratch.

I feel bad for Jessica because she was put into a very difficult situation needing to prove herself very quickly. However, at the same time, it was a great opportunity for her if she succeeded. She was just in over her head.

I agree, Bill. I can't make any sense of it. Therefore, I will offer no comments or judgments. Other than that I feel that the company overseeing the scene in which the infection takes place should be held liable for some sort of damages. Someone needs to get that into law, or at least take up the case and test it out. It strikes me as utterly criminal -- even though, I know, these are adults who have probably signed away any rights to a claim in such an event. I know individual producers and directors who do show concern and caution, but I am wholly dubious of AIM and its monopoly over testing just as I am of the "industry," per se. End of the day, it's every man and woman for themselves, take the money and run -- in most cases, but certainly not every case,

I really hope that Jessica isn't in as bad a situation as the newspaper describes.

I just want everyone involved in this matter to remember what happened almost a year ago: Rebecca Steele's OD (she was suffering from AIDS). The AIDS outbreak last year is bad enough, but things like this should be prevented.

In this particular case, I agree with you. But that only because all of the girls who contracted HIV did so while working for the same company who was irresponsible when Darren James became HIV+.

If Darren hadn't been under contract to TT Boy, and after contracting HIV, passed it along while shooting for another company, I don't think that the second company should have any liability as long as Darren had a current negative test. In that case, I think that TT Boy's company should still be one who is liable for damages.

Edited to remove name of real company in the hypothetical example that I used, because using the name of a real company wasn't necessary to make my point, and may cause confusion in subsequent posts.

OK, lets not misrepresent here. Everyone who became HIV infected was involved in 1 film for TT Boy titled...."Split That Booty #2". If you search for that film today (as not to leave a smoking gun)that film was released without Jessica's, Miss Arroyo's, & Lara Roxx's scenes. Though informed people who took the time to read all the news coming out around that time know Bianca Biaggi is the actual Patient Zero and not Darren James. Bianca Biaggi's scene was still released in that film. She immediately retired after the HIV story broke, but a Transsexual Bianca had just worked with for Joey Silvera just prior to "Split That Booty #2" turned up HIV positive. Then a director in Brazil that tried to hire Bianca back in Brazil said she was HIV positive. Darren James, Lara Roxx, Miss Arroyo, & Jessica Dee should come together and either through subpoena or whatever should try to force Bianca Biaggi to return to the US to be tested.

Those 4 people shouldn't struggle to survive while TT Boy's company goes on making him money.

"as director after she got infected was only faked to let PXP/the people behind it appear as generous."

An aside: Not to long ago, I went on Seymour Butt's official messageboard and I asked when exactly his grand new condom-only policy was going to start. If you remember, in the Darren James firestorm Platinum X hired Jessica Dee as a director and Seymour Butts put out a press release on AVN stating that he was going to switch to condom-only now. PXP films have been released that list Jessica Dee as director. I have yet to see a single Seymour Butts film since the moratorium that has the guys wearing condoms. The people on the message board seemed to have no clue what I was talking about and Seymour, Mari Possa, or April Storm offered no response.

Couldn't Platinum X have just hired Jessica Dee to make themselves look good? Did Seymour Butts just make a statement with no true intentions behind it just to look good?

Are people selfless or self-interested (individualistic or structuralist)?

Or do Platinum X look bad now because they fired a girl they should never have really hired in the first place? And shouldn't Seymour be allowed to change his mind and back away from what must have just been an understandable knee-jerk reaction?

This is real sad news about Jessica Dee. I hope she pulls through this and works something out.

Who misrepresented anything? You should work on your reading comprehension. Maybe you wouldn't have so many people pissed off at you all of the time.

I wrote that everyone contracted HIV while working for TT Boy. I then gave an example of a situation where I wouldn't hold the company, who shot the movie where a performer contracted HIV, responsible. Rather, I would hold the company who was responsible for the first transmission liable.

There would be other cases where I wouldn't hold any company responsible (ie. if a performer contracted HIV outside the industry, still had valid negative tests, and brought the virus into the industry).

In the future, try reading and understanding before replying to posts.

As I recall, TT set up Darren in some BTS capacity, hopefully he'd be decent enough to reach out to the others. But, really, I don't have any info on this other than hearsay. I did almost get to witness a beatdown on TT when I was in LA last summer (!), at a public event no less, between him and a performer who had been placed on the Q-list, but it didn't come to that. I'm glad, because I was standing right there and who knows . I'm a big guy and sometimes it's hard to get out of the way fast!

As far as dragging Brazilian retired porn girls suspected or confirmed with HIV back into the US for some legal affair -- fat chance getting immigration to co-sign that one.

I met the SZ Magazin reporter in L.A. and we hang out for a couple of days. A very nice guy. But the way he tells the story is not true. He might have misunderstood something in the short time he was here.
This is bullshit and Larry would never say that. John Stagliano is the best example that you can have a career after being infected.

You should also know something about the structure of PXP. It is mainly a distribution company. Jewel De'Nyle, John Strong, Manuel Ferrara, Michael Stefano, Sean Michaels, Brandon Iron and me are independent producers. We cover all the cost and turn in a finished product for distribution. We all have certain slots for release. Manuel and Michael left to RLD but still own the movies they shot for PXP.

Jewel gave Jessica a chance to direct some of the movies Jewel owns. She never worked for PXP. She worked for Jewel.

I like Jessica Dee a lot as a person and I feel sorry for her situation. I was neither involved in hiring nor firing of her but I can understand both decisions. Jewel wanted to give her a chance but Jessica couldn't live up to the expectations.

I personally use Darren James as PA and behind the scenes camera man when I shoot in L.A. A very nice and talented guy.

I prefer to think that in both cases people were trying to do "the right thing". I don't think that PXP (or as Steve described, Jewel) looks bad for firing Jessica. She couldn't do the job. Business is business. It's a shame that PXP didn't have the company structure in place to allow Jessica to grow into a director. But they don't, nor are many other adult companies large enough to have that kind of structure.

I also think your assessment of Seymore's reacton as being "knee-jerk" is probably an accurate one.

In both cases, it probably would have been better if the people involved didn't annouce their plans so "loudly". If neither PXP nor Seymore had been so public in what they were doing in the first place, there wouldn't be any kind of an uproar when those plans changed.

Damn Bill I wasn't attacking you, so chill out,

I understood what you were saying. My misrepresent comment was about the talk of TT Boy's company being irresponsible with using Darren James. They were irresponsible in hiring Bianca Biaggi, not Darren James.

Where in this thread did anyone write that TT Boy's company was irresponsible for using Darren James? The post that you quoted, and referred to as "misrepresenting" something was making the exact same point that you are trying to make.

Ah, it was but a few short months ago, when everyone's hearts were gladdened by this touching thread called 'PXP and Jessica Dee', started by Jewel on May 1 of last year.

Jewel: PXP will be siging jessica dee the former talent who just tested HIV positive to an exclusive directing contract. jessica is in good spirt's and as one of my good friends and a favorite performer of mine is now a part of the PXP team she will be directing one movie a month starting June 1st. We are delighted to have her as she is an inspration to us all and all of us at PXP take care of our own. Being former talent there is nothing I wouldn't do for my fellow performers. jessica deserves the best and now she has it……I hope someday the rest of the industry will learn to love each other and stand together as one.

And the enthusiastic response from so many fans, like all the following –

"It's good to see someone who looks out for people. My respect for Jewel and everyone at PXP went a 1000%."

"I agree. It' nice to see people doing good things for others. you're a classy lady Jewel!"

"Nice going Jewel!! I'll be happy to see what jessica is able to come up with. Loved her as a performer and I feel she will do well bringing such performances out of others!!"

"I'm Glad PXP Is Reaching Out to Help jessica dee"

"i have to hand it to the folks at PXP, they really know what they are doing. not only do they produce a top notch product, they seem to actually 'CARE' about performers and their customers. jewel, way to go, signing jessica dee was a smart move, she's a great performer and i think she'll make a great director."

"they say you find out about people during tough times and this is certainly the case with pxp."

"I feel the same as everyone else here and I can only re-iterate how nice it is to hear that she's not being dumped but being taken care of."

Based on that I dont understand those boycott calls against PXP. On the contrary: Its nice that they gave Jessica Dee a chance as a director in the first place.

Furthermore, if that German newspaper writes the truth, Jessica can be happy to have such a supporting and caring husband.

Just a little part from the SZ-article :

Shortened in English :
" »Jessica has us all surprised« ,said Larry, »firstly how fast that movie was shot and secondly how hard it was.«
Why wasn't she allowed to go on than ?
Because she shot too many movies and they did couldn't sell/release them that fast and when they then got released the girls were outdated/used to much."

Well this doesn't sound as if she couldn't do the job.
And she only did 4 movies in 6 months so she just did what according to the post from jewel was her job.
"... now a part of the PXP team she will be directing one movie a month starting June 1st."

I thought it was Darren James who got others infected with HIV but as I read this thread, it seems that it was this transexual Bianca Biaggi who actually infected Darren and as a result he infected the porn girls. Am I right?

This might reasonably be a "strict liability" situation, meaning that negligence and other factors don't matter - if it happens on a PXP set then PXP might be liable. Someone familiar with CA law would have to say.

I always read Jewel's offer as being that Jessica was offered a chance to direct. I believe I even said in a post here that a chance is not a guarantee - Jewel was giving Jessica a chance to direct and not a guarantee of success. I suspect that's what happened, and that Jessica didn't prove successful at delivering the required product on time and in budget.

(directing porn is about more than a checklist of which-holes and how-many-cocks - time and budget, especially in gonzo, may be harder for many)

I didn't mean that they wouldn't have liabilty in a court of law, I meant that in my opinion they shouldn't have any liability, because they would have done nothing wrong and were just as much a victim of circumstance as the performer would have been.

Note: I have gone back and edited the hypothetical example in my original statement because as portions of that post gets quoted, without the disclaimer that it contained, it starts looking like I am actually stating that PXP has some responsibility for Jessica having contracted HIV, which was not my intention and couldn't be further from the truth. Therefore, I have replaced any mention of PXP in that post with the generic phrase "another company".

It is rumored that a Brazilian TS named Bianca worked for a while after becoming HIV+. This Bianca worked in Brazil.

Bianca Biaggi (a girl) did in fact do a bareback anal scene with Bianca TS the Evil Angel production Hard Time She Male . Bianca Biaggi did other bareback scenes with TS's in Brazil too.

Bianca Biaggi did do a bareback anal scene with Darren after working with Bianca TS.

From all of this, a plausible scenario is that the outbreak started in Brazil with a Brazilian TS and brought to the US by Darren on a TT Boy shoot, after transmission in Brazil on an Evil Angel shoot.

To the best of my knowledge there has been no effort to investigate any of this. This has all been covered in detail in the past, with the only new info being that there is no new info - no detective work to prove or disprove the suspected path of transmission above.

He might have said it in a regretful tone that doesn't translate well from English to German:
That could have been said with a sigh.
This bit however seems callous:
Especially after reading Jewel's response to all the congratulatory replies in the thread where she announced her signing of Jessica:
I wonder if there's more to it than comes across in the article.
As it stands it seems damn cold on Larry/Jewel's part.

If you take this quote (won't translate it again), I think it depends entirely on the context what this statement of Larry's actually means. And of course we do not know the exact context.

However, it looks like something someone would say about performers in the industry (much more than about directors in the industry).
If that is true, than the last sentence 'the only people the adult industry does not tolerate are people with AIDS' makes sense even in the context of PXP hiring Jessica. (BTW that statement is true only for the straight industry: in the gay industry many performers are HIV+ of course!).

BTW, the first sentence of the quote gives an interesting insight: "he's met managers, academics, imigrants, even petty criminals and failed models in the industry"
Why would anyone say "even petty criminals and failed models"? Surely the expectation of anyone in the general public (or a journalist) would be to find mostly trailer trash, criminals and failed anythings in the industry...

At first it looked like a very nice gesture from PlatinumX to hire Jessica but they already knew a great performer doesn't make a great director and they knew she never had directed a movie so looking back I personally think PlatinumX only hired her for the good publicity they would get which would only help them. I don't believe for a minute anymore they had the best interest for Jessica, only for themselves. I mean if you're gonna help anyone you will go all the way, not say in the middle sorry I can't help you anymore.

First of all, thank you Stemcell for preparing and posting the article. (I can't imagine that anybody ever voiced concern about Stemcell-Resarch here in Germany )

To the article: I can't/won't comment on the facts presented but for me this article is only the latest in a series of one-sided reports in quality German newspapers (peaking during last year's HIV-crisis and the Sibel Kerkili-story). They all have the same tone. They characterize the business as mean and exploiting. For me it seems that these journalists have this opinion way before they start writing these articles...
But what I seriously can't understand is why there's no response from the German industry * to this even though it affects them in so many ways (not only sales but new performers, laws,...)! The fact that they don't do probably says a lot about them!

*p.s. Steve doesn't count as "German industry" since he is working abroad. And he is never shy on making a statement.

Then let's concentrate on the facts:
1. PXP (or Jewel) hired Jessica Dee as a director in May 2004
2. PXP (or Jewel) fired Jessica Dee in January 2005

Don't forget about these facts :
3. PXP (or Jewel) made big news about hiring Jessica (thread at ADT, news-section on PXP website)
4. PXP (or Jewel) didn't give any info that and why they/she fired Jessica

"3. PXP (or Jewel) made big news about hiring Jessica (thread at ADT, news-section on PXP website)
4. PXP (or Jewel) didn't give any info that and why they/she fired Jessica"

Which would feed into the "they did to look good" argument.

There are many mistakes in his article. I cannot verify everything, but at least the things which relate to PXP and me. Just a few examples :
Jewel DeNyle performs in 14 PXP titles. We have over 130. And as you know, there is nothing like a lead role in gonzo.
The first thing Larry does every morning, is going to the toilette to get water for the coffee machine.
If you try this you will never reach our office.
I have a daughter and a son and they are 12 and 14 yo
My eyes are bright blue.

The journalist who wrote this article came to the porn valley without any prior contact to the industry. He stayed here few days and met few people. He told me that everything is so different that he expected.

I think Jewel did great in giving Jessica Dee this chance. Manuel Ferrara and I got the same chance two years ago.

I wish Jessica all the best for her future.

I'd be curious to know what form of training, if any, did Jessica get before she directed her first movie. Did anyone take the time out to show her the ropes? I know some directors are clearly better than others, but we're talking porn here, not the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. Did anyone show her the basic fundamentals before throwing her to the lions, so to speak?

Maybe Jessica Dee can/could do something else at PXP behind the scenes to earn for her living? Just a suggestion...

Somehow i would have thought that Jewel was the lead role in her last movie but maybee i'm just wrong at this.
Well i believe he get's the water from the wash-basin at least i hope so and that the porn magazines are in the toilette / next to it so that you have something to read/ look at there. And maybee the article wanted to say that he's not going to the toilette there because of the this.
So why at least according to the article did you shrug your shoulders when you heard she got fired - oh i know because you think it was a pittance that she got hired as director. And that she can't do anything that others can't do either.
Well as i already said this sentence fits nearlly every director in porn including you.

But all those things that you critize about the article aren't important.

Important is the question why did PXP/Jewel fire Jesscia Dee.
According to the article because she shot to many movies.
I doubt this is the real reason. Especially when than other directors like Tim von Swine has to jump in and finish a movie asap like Teen Fuck Holes.

As a side note i believe this can be a really good movie even though it might be rushed out. It just speaks against the theory of too many movies from Jessica Dee.

Some people here believe/assume that she can't do the job.

Well lets hear was Jewel said about Jessica Dee and her job :

In a thread about Throat Yogurt :

In another thread :
In another thread :
In another thread :
Another post about "Nasty Hardcore Latina's " :
The next thread this time about "Fashionably Laid" :
And one more about "Fashionably Laid" :
Okay this is the last one :
Somehow, i don't know why, but all these post don't sound as if Jewel has the opinion that Jessica can't do the job.
I would really love to have Jewel/ or anyone else explain to me how someone who is a dream female director doing a fine job directing great, awesome movies that are very hardcore got fired ?

But maybee the article is even false about that and she did'nt got fired but just makes a break ?

I know what you mean, and it's just an idiosyncrasy of language, but I did have to read this twice.

I have been reading this for a couple days now, and I can no longer hold my tongue.

This situation was only going to work one of two ways for PXP, Very Bad, or Very Good! At present it appears that it was the 1st scenario. That being said, I have this to offer. PXP stood up, and stepped to the plate when no one else did. Other performers in the past were left to do wardrobe, PA or just hustle for work, she was giving a high powered important job. Her titles did not review well, and from what I saw, showed little promise.

Non profit industries tend to be the organization thhat perform charity work, and we all know that porn is a "For Profit" industry. People are acting like Jewel, and her father are responsible for Jessica's situation, but the truth is they gave her a great opportunity, and she was unable to fullfil the task.

Once again, I don't know Jewel or Jessica, and I have made public statements here about Jewel ability or lack of the resolve issues with tact, but in this case, I see no wrong. Jessica lost her job, and now people feel bad. Who's mad at TT, D. James or Sharon Mitchel? These are all people that came in contact with Jessica long before PXP.

I doubt Larry loved her like a daughter or Jewel loved her like a sister, but it doesn't matter. We've all know nice people that couldn't do the job, or got fired for some reason. The best way to help the poor is to not be one of them.

I'm sorry for Jessica, but her issue shouod not be with PXP. Who else hired her?

In closing, I wish I could have read the article, I hate basing a post on someones translation.

I'm very pissed off about this article that could be further from the truth about any of us at PXP. Jessica did movies for David Joseph he owned them and no longer wanted her to shoot for him instead he decided to have one of his RLD do it for him. I am having Jessica now shoot for me as I said before no one is shooting for me at this time not even myself as I have about 15 movies on the shelf that I need to put out and re-coop funds for before I go on another shooting spree. I have Kylie,Jessica,Mason and Myself that make movies that I own. We offered to get Jessica a job elsewhere to do something during her time off to make some extra money to help pay for whatever she needed and I told her if she got to low on money to call me and I'd make and exception and have her shoot something so she wouldn't be broke. I still own my part of PXP and David is my partner so stop assuming you know what's going on from some journalist that loves to twist things to make our business look like shit. I'm very displeased you would even think I'd be so thoughtless.

The harder I get tore down the more determined I get to be the best this industry has to offer. This is why I don't do many interviews since I started PXP the press likes to knock you down when all I'm trying to do is bring this industry up a notch.

Glad you dipped down to clear the air, if not only to share your side. The article posted was contrary to my knowledge of how PXP does business.
