Hello,
I mistakenly assumed that buying actual DVD's is a thing of the past, and were replaced with pay sites. after joining this forum I see that they still make DVD's. I also see that on at least some pay sites (Evil angel) , the same scenes appear on DVD's and the site itself.
The cost per scene of DVD's is so high compared to a subscription, so I am surprised people buy DVD's.
The reasons for buying a DVD I would guess are those that want to "own" the scenes, or want to watch on a TV with a DVD player. For me, I simply download MP4's from pay sites and watch on a media player if I want to watch on my TV.
for the people who still buy DVD's, can you tell me why ?
Thanks

I still buy DVDs for a few reasons:
- Bluray.
- Restored older movies that have special features.
- Restored films unavailable on streaming services.
- I prefer to own the film if it's something important to me.
- I like physical media.
- I can't afford multiple subscriptions.
- I have been burned by subscription sites who either fraudulently charged my CC multiple times or otherwise were deceptive in their explanation of the charges. Call me an old lady, but I simply don't trust subscription sites all that much.

I like physical media. Buying a Blu-ray or DVD means that I get what I want not a subscription to a site with what they choose to put up. In five years if I want to watch it again, I know I have it to see. If it is on a site, then it can be removed (hell Ultra Violet is already starting to remove the free digital version that came in my Blu-rays and DVDs).

* Force of Habit.
* A laptop and a desktop which are both temperamental about on which days they will actually deign to play streaming video
*New discoveries, especially with comps. When you get a video it might be because of only one or two listed stars, but there's been numerous times I've discovered new favorites.
Having said all that, I do like dvd empire and AEBN also.

For me it's a matter of variety. I'm a member of VIDEOBOX. The think I like most about VB is there are all sorts of porn from many different studios. I also have a membership with Naughty America. The NA site is okay but I couldn't watch it all the time exclusively because I'd get bored by the sameness of their output. To watch all the studios I like I'd have to have about 5 or 6 different subscriptions at once and that's too much. And also I don't like watching porn on my computer so I only join sites that offer service through my ROKU. With DVDs I can watch scenes/girls I like from the studios I like. I don't want to see all the scenes WCP, DOGFART, BRAZZERS, BABGBROS, etc., puts out and buys the DVD allows me to be selective to jut get the stuff I'm interested in. Plus I watch girls from different eras of porn so it's easier to buy a cheap new or used DVD with them in it.
But DVDs have the downside of taking up space and I have many DVDs that only have one scene or two I've ever watched because I didn't care about the rest of the cast. So sometimes I just buy/stream stuff from AEBN. Overall I'm buy less DVDs than I have in the past but will probably always buy them.

Yes, and hotmovies, too. Ironically, hotmovies is the only place you can watch many of the Cecil Howard films.
I do have a slightly off-topic question, though: if I stream a purchased film from hotmovies through my phone/apple TV, why can't I play the film from the start? There is no play button--just scenes. It's absolutely infuriating. I have to play each scene one by one, totally disrupting the film.

I love DVDs, except where I take such a shine to a series in which there are loads of entries that to buy them all would cost an arm and a leg. I've literally - and spookily - just posted in [invalid URL removed]this thread about Kink's Hardcore Gangbangs. I want them all but it's either buy the DVDs at phenomenal cost or buy digitally using their perplexing 'tokens' system. Why can't they just use the traditional 'one-off-charge-and-download-all you-want' type deal?

The price differential between DVDs and a site subscription is so crazy. I was in a porn store a few weeks ago and they were selling Jules Jordan DVDs for 40 bucks and up. I could get all four scenes on a single JJV DVD and hundreds more for just $29.95 a month. Given the type of porn I consume (strictly gonzo, no features or classics) memberships are the only thing that make sense for me.

Like so many things it boils down to personal preference and in that respect porn is no different from mainstream; some people prefer the tangible side of things to the ethereal. People can watch a film on netflix, or buy a dvd; and anyone who uses Amazon will know how massive the dvd market still is.
When kindles came out, many thought that books would disappear; when i-tunes came out, many thought that cds and vinyl would die. But there is still a large percentage of people who like to keep a library they can look at, take down a book and leaf through it, pick out a cd and read the cover notes etc. I, for example, have tried reading books on a kindle but I find the experience of holding a book and turning the pages to be far more satisfying. I also have an extensive vinyl and cd collection. I guess there are many who find the same with the dvd as opposed to the website. The physical side of things is important to how we interpret our environment and I don't think that will change for a long time.

Good point. A major factor in my DVD buying is that I can get them so cheap through ADULTDVDMARKETPLACE. The newest releases are almost always under 20 bucks for the bigger more expensive studios and under $15 for the second tier studios. The majority of my buys from them are older titles that cost sometimes as little as 3 or 4 dollars. If I had to pay SRP prices for DVDs I would buy far less DVDs.

The price difference between buying a movie on AMAZON and buying the DVD is so small I'd rather buy the DVD and get all the extra content.

I wouldn't buy any new titles in DVD format, it have to be Blu-ray otherwise i prefer a 1080p download, DVDs not acceptable for me in this age, for older movies which shot in SD i buy DVDs, i have some SD scenes downloaded from 2 or 3 different website (all legal) some with unwatchable quality, some splited incorrectly, buying DVDs resolve this problems. I started buying DVDs newly, if i can find porn DVDs in my country or live in US i would buy much more DVDs for sure.
