You see the same thing when mainstream directors try to do something interesting with sexuality. I don't thing 9 SONGS was a very good flick, but I don't think the level of venom level against it by critics was in any way justified. Winterbottom tried something, it was kind of so so, if the subject matter had been anything else, people would have said it was an interesting experiement.
But when the subject matter is sex, people feel obligued express their dissappointment in the most vicious ways. It brings to mind the way some guys think that if another guy makes a pass at them, they have to give the guy a beat down to prove how disinterested they were.
I haven't seen F2 (Tricia, did you lose my mailing address again?) but I have to admire JS for spending the goodwill he gained on F1 doing something that seems like it tries to bring pace and uncertainty back into the genre. They've been missing for far too long.
I've never seen the first one. Will there be a mega boxed set in the future that will contain the "The Fashionistas" four-disc set and the "The Fashionistas 2 & 3" five disc set?
I already asked Tricia that and apparently there are no current plans to put the first Fashionistas in the box set just the two parts of Fashionistas Safado.
I've seen it. wow It does start off slow. I mean like 20 mins no sex. the acting is real good.belladonna really makes me feel like she is that character.I'm always happy to see a fav porn star of mine take on rocco.In this case It's jenna haze.I think thou honestly It Is average.There Is only like 3 main scenes and that's mest up being that it's a 2 disc set.are they 3 hot scenes? no not really. are they good? yes Honestly Buttman did really made this film look real good. the film looks like a hollywood movie.but honestly the biggest problem....it leaves you hanging.but It just wants you to get Fashionistas :Berlin

I'm about half way through F2 and I like the atmosphere of decadence and abandon that it creates. Every one in the movie just seeme to be soo into it and giving all with total abandon. I can't wait to jump back in for DVD #2 this evening.
Incidentally the trailer for F3 shows action in the KitKat Club in Berlin and I was very excited to see Simon Thaur in the scene. I much admire his "ouvre" in his Subway Prodactions series (if you know the series you know what I'm talking about).

Also, if you wan't to watch a "mainstream" movie with the same decadent feel as F2, I highly recommend the directors cut of "Demonlover". Not explicit hardcore but very fetishistic and kinky when you think about what's going on. A real mind fuck and thats what it's about with extreme consequences!
Wow! We'll I've allowed the Fashionistas 2 to sink in, and what comes to mind is The Wizard Of Oz. The initial critics response to The Wizard of Oz was they trashed the shit out it, but history proved them wrong. I think the same will happen here.
The only porn movie that rivals Fashionistas 2 is the first Fashionistas, but in many ways Fashionistas 2 far exceeds the first.
I agree with others that the first 20 minutes doesn't do a good job of setting things up.
My statements are in no way meant to attack those who didn't like the movie, we're all entitle to our opinion. For me Fashionistas 2 has replaced Fashionistas as the best porn movie of all times.
I might be the last person who'd expect to comment on this one but I've seen it and I'm pretty impressed with what I saw. The whole fetish genre is very foreign to me as the only other exposure I've really had to it was the first Fashionistas. But saying that there is some really good things in this one for gonzo fans too. At the end of disc one you get an awesome 2 on 1 scene with Rocco, Jenna Haze, and Gianna. Wow those three fed off one another so well and you get Rocco pulverizing Jenna's ass long and hard with good A2M from her. Gianna gets fucked real hard too. There's a great orgy scene on this too with Adriana Nicole, Marie Luv, Flower Tucci, Sasha Grey, Nicole Sheridan, and to a lesser extent Bella and Melissa Lauren. This was easily the longest review I've ever written for any title but I enjoyed it as a visual experience quite a bit so much fetish stuff to take in and there's some good sex here too wrapping up with a 2 on 1 with Katsumi involved. I'm tired of typing now so I'm gonna stop but this is well worth checking out for the fetish enthusiasts and for the curious as well.

I just finished watching Fashionistas 2 for the second time, and I stand corrected the first twenty minutes F2 is a great, and Fashionistas 2 as a whole is fucking incredible. Looking forward to Fashionistas 3!!!!
Stagliano should hire a director of photography for his next movie. He has a huge opportunity to create something really amazing.
Stagliano directing, all those amazing perfromers, and a director of photography/cinematographer would have the potential to create a modern classic.

I won't judge F2 from viewing on my laptop, but F1 looked pretty good to me, lighting-wise. Esp. with all the sequences that were darkly lit. That's usually a weak point in most porn "films" and why you see so much gonzo shot in daylight.
Huh? Actually, they're all film makers, unless you want to argue the semantics of making film without using film stock. What they aren't is practicioners of the traditional narrative format.
Now, you can argue that most of them are bad film makers and, without getting into specific names, we'll probably agree, but that's another issue.
As for Stagliano's needing a director of photography, off hand I would put Stagliano at or near the end of the line for those in dire need of some assistance.
Take any famous Hollywood director and force him to make his next film without a director of photography and lets see how good their next film looks.

Btw, if you read my post I was praising Stagilano and the performers. Saying there needs to be a director of photography is a constructive comment.
What I am saying is that with the power and direction of a Stagliono movie, coupled with a great director of photography, could end up shocking all the people who look down on adult films.
More to the point of our new friend's "Take any famous Hollywood director" , find me a famous porn director who has the budget or the prestige to hire an ASC DP.
The only problems that I have with this first installment of Fashionistas 2 are: unless you have a strong taste for the performer and will virtually watch any scene that person performs in, then you might be pleased about the scene even if the scene was less than steller. This was the case for me with Katsumi. The sex within her scenes were not very impressive, but my enjoyment of her beauty allowed me to momentarily ignore the lackluster sex that occurred. One of the biggest problems with this film is that it was obviously rushed. I know that John had his reasons, but I would have waited until the end of the year to display this to the public. More emphasis should have been placed on Rocco and Belladonna in this film. If you follow the action, it's clear that their characters are not as developed as they could have been. I do agree with some previous posters in that a strong anti-woman character who resembles a dominatrix of sorts (similar to the one that Taylor St. Claire portrayed in The Fashionistas is missing here. Overall, the casting and production values is exceptional. With minor twinking in the subject-matter and more time to develop the characters and the plot, this first film leading toward Fashionistas 2 would have been absoultely fantastic. Still, this film is better than most.
"Two Shades above the rest", - The Secluded Paradyme.
I liked it well enough. Is The Challenge as good as the original? Maybe not, but it's still not trash. Being a Jenna Haze fan, I really liked disc one. I may enjoy disc two more when I watch it sometime when I have given myself some time to rest from watching porn for at least a day. It is probably important to remember that this is not part two and Safado: Berlin is not part three. This is part 2a and Berlin will be 2b.
Bummer not to be able to watch Fashionistas 3 for a long time: I was really ready for it at the end of 2. The non-consummation of the concluding Rocco/Belladonna scene expresses the incompleteness of this aesthetic experience. Obviously these two parts are meant to be viewed as halves of a whole (critics beware!).
"The Orgy" made me think what orgies were about, and indeed what "gonzo" is about (regarded as reality sex vs the play-acting of features): the total breakdown of sexual inhibitions, familiar to us in dreams where our super-ego censor is banished. All desires are approved in mutual cooperation--a sort of libidinal utopia. And there are moments of blissful liberation captured here. The expression on that black girl's face; Mark Davis's expostulation at one point. Boy, does Sandra Romain fit in! She was born for this kind of thing.
That this movie made me think of such things (being a fast-forwarder of orgy scenes and by no means a gonzo junkie) is due to how clearly and fully they were represented. Very illuminating.
The movie offers different kinds of pleasures visually and in terms of vibe than gonzo equivalents, and, as the other guy stated, a lot of it has to do (for me, too) with a familiarity with the cast. I was turned on, for instance, watching Melissa Lauren in the non-sex role, because it shows another side of her personality. Sasha Grey, first scene ever, with Rocco, both "acting" and not "acting," these layers that exist make it psychologically richer.
So it's all a little "Kill Bill," in terms of the F2/F3 split.
Perhaps there is a subtext of incompletion here ... given all the thwarted climaxes, and I find that very interesting as a strategy. I like that, personally, but I was tuned in a lot more to the sensuality of the outfits, the bits of persperation pooling under the latex, Jenna Haze's little eyeballs popping up like a cartoon mouse's above the epic curves of Gianna's rump, making little "hmmmmphhh!" sounds as Rocco pushes her head further into her sweat-drenched crack.
This is the stuff I love about sex. This is the stuff that makes meaning for the cunts and cocks and assholes and jism.

I've been irretrievably spoiled by European beauties, but I must say this Sasha Grey is kinda cute (and certainly very game). It was good to have her initiation the focus of the orgy, since I could identify in my open-minded but quite inexperienced curiosity. I certainly hope no one regards my comments as criticism of the movie. Just thoughts that happened to occur to me personally. Stagliano's intents and the movie's meaning are very much mysteries that I am merely exploring, or as it were hearing as news from some distant region.
And much else is going on of course, in fact things more interesting to me. It's just that The Orgy is the big experiment of this part, and perhaps something of a stumbling block for others. View it as Steve Holmes suggested as a cocktail party one is walking around in, only tripping on acid (say) and seeing what these people really want to be doing with each other. Think of these porn performers as people you know.... Just to get into the spirit of the thing.
Contrary to what many have suggested on these boards, I love Safado. The Orgy scene in particular was sensational. God bless Stagliano. The problem with the Fashionistas films is that after viewing them all other porn is at best stale, contrived, insulting.
Special mention has to go to Sandra Romain whose exchange of slaps with Eric Everhard is an image that days later I'm still aroused by, she is the new Belladonna. Incredible. I look forward to part 2 with huge interest. I wish other porno producers would watch Stagliano and understand the meaning of freedom, chemistry and atmosphere. 4 cocks and a wide eyed 20 year old does not maketh a god porno make.
Congratulations to all involved for producing a movie that seeks to do something other than merely appeal to the average lacking in attention span raincoater.

In the closing credits you will find that there was a director of photography for Berlin, and a director of photography for the US (Vegas and LA). Each of them has had experience as a DP for 10+ years.

despite all the hate mail in previosly found in this thread i loved this movie, and its has left me hanging on for more. Wathcing this film i did not compare it to porn feature and gonzo films or mainstream films for that matter, its stands on its own too feet. For those expecting a duplicate of the fashionistas i can see why you are dissapointed, This movie is a completely different take and perspective on the fetish world and both jesse and antionio's involvement with it, I find the movie highly stylized throughout which i loved, the costumes and just incredible and outdo the first film. I also loved the use of high definition video, being this first film i have seen that has been shot in HD. Does wonders to the latex costumes and also really smooths out skin tones and make it look sculptural. As for the sex scenes, sure it does not have as much heat and raincoater material as a gonzo film, but its not supposed to. The gonzo's style of filming really attracts attention to the use of the camera which is what you do not want to achieve in this film. It really shows the sex from a third person invisible perspective that is sharing the same room with these people. I also found the sped up action very interesting as it changed the perception of the scene. Anyways i should really be writing this stuff in a review so ill leave the rest of you to it.
I don't know if the fetish content of the movie will be to my liking but the women look amazing in the trailer. That alone is enough to convince me to watch it.
Wow, I've never particpated in something like this forum, I must say that I am flattered that so many poeple have taken an interest in my movie. I want to comment on the Director of Photography thing. (by the way Don Crane worked on Fashionistas and Face Dance, not Wild goose Chase, WGC was jane Waters) In any movie you have constraints imposed by time and budget. there are a lot of shots in F2 that I think turned out really well, these are shots we could take a lot of time on or which i just got lucky shooting. Other shots look prety bad,(but which were still acceptable to me and I had to use to tell my story) but I must say there are alot of "shots" here. I jsut watched the beginning of Michael Nin's Sacred Sin and he gets alot of shots to, butwhat I think I'm doing more of is story telling, not just trying to get pretty shots, but shots that help create an erotic energy in a different way than he does. But for all of us the goal is to tell a story(or paint your picture like Michael Ninn does) as best you can within your limitations. If I had a mainstream director of photography we still would have had these same constraints. where I am most proud of this movie is how we dealt with these constraints and how I got my shots to tell my story. then it takes alot of effort to massage these shots in editing into the final product. In this respect i am very happy with the movie. I worked much harder on this movie than the first. I hope this effort pays off in making the experience better for the viewer. But how hard you work on something does not really mattter, It's the resul that counts. I'm sorry if I love tease as much as hard sex. that's me. I would rather see a great ass in tight latex than a naked ass in normal sex. though I do agree the two should go together. I tried to put these together with an emphasis on what I prefer.
Fashionistas Safado: The Challenge is one of the best porn films I have ever seen. I am dead tired with most gonzo titles the producers in United States are putting out nowadays. For some time I have been looking for porn films with more emphasis put on storytelling and technical aspects. The ones I have found and really enjoyed include The Russian Institute 1 (Marc Dorcel) and Young Harlots in London (Harmony). Fashionistas Safado belongs to the same class with these masterpieces.
In Fashionistas Safado I love the emphasis placed on tease and the fact that ones does not know when a sex act is about to start or when and how it is about to end. This is what makes the movie both exciting and surprising. Everything in the film looks really good and sexy from settings and make-ups to performers. The only mistakes are few changes in image tones, but these really are minor faults in a porn film. I would say I love this film for the same reasons some seem to hate it. Shortly put, Fashionistas Safado delivers what it promises and is therefore a success!
