What do you think of his theory that DVD release of old titles is competing with the new material? I think there's some truth to this. However, while it's true that in the past year nearly all the titles of some large studios (Kristen Bjorn and Bel Ami come to mind) have been released on DVD, as well as some classics (old George Higgins titles, the first NOVA video [Brian's Boys], and even now Brad Posey's popular series), in my opinion the studios just aren't producing anything "above and beyond"; they seem to have achieved a level of complacency. I can think of only a couple recent or upcoming titles I've really wanted to see (Navy Blues and The Matrixxx), but every time I look at TLA or radvideo I'm seeing too much of the same old thing.

Regarding John Rutherford, I'm sure part of his reasons for leaving include his view of what the future of the industry holds. But again, he's been in the industry since he graduated from college and maybe he needs some change. He's about my age, and often I feel the same way. (Has anyone noticed Falcon's website has been unavailable lately?)

The bad fortunes of Odyssey will be repeated in the next few months. There are too many fish in the pond right now, and unless a studio finds a niche it will be squeezed out. It's all about market share, and when the market shrinks for whatever reason, the share will shrink to the point where some companies cannot remain profitable. Welcome to economics.
