Last night while typing out a post I went to hit "backspace" to correct a typo and hit the "forward slash" key on accident, it then flew off the keyboard and hit the wall behind me. I can't understand how this happened since I never type very hard and have treated my laptop with kid gloves since the day I bought it 3 yrs. ago. After close examination with a flashlight the key is fully intact and I can see how it's supposed to connect to the board, but can't for the life in me figure out how to put it back on. So I guess my question is has anyone dealt with this before, or know a site I can check out for a quick fix? I own a Dell Latitude if that makes any difference. Any help or advise on this will be greatly appreciated.

just push it back in the hole and apply low pressure evenly. Should snap back in. Keys come off all the time just don't lose it.

does it work on a scissor-like mechanism? most laptops seem to--basically attach the bottom in the 4 notches then make the two stalks cross each other like folding a ladder. they should fold flat, then carefully fit the key itself. they're fragile and i've lost one once--call dell and ask if they can send you the scissor mechanisms if yours is broken.

Jamesboston you are a life saver my man, I hadn't thought of separating the the hinged part from the key itself. It worked like a charm, and took me all of about a minute to fix! Just so you know where I was at with my little problem, I spent 3 hrs. earlier tonight trying to take the housing off the computer so I could get at it from the side. Once I realized that the parts I was removing might not be so easily replaced I gave up and started putting it back together. Needless to say the missing key was slowly driving me insane. So my mental health and I, Thank You very much!
