Years ago, KLH was a very high quality speaker manufacturer. The name was sold. Today, a lot of its products aren't what they used to be.

That having been said, for $35 for a DVD player, how can you go wrong? You've already identified a number of DVDs that have caused problems with your other players. So ...

1. Check the store's return policy


2. Buy the KLH player for $35


3. Play several of your "problem" DVDs


4. If they play, keep the KLH player


5. If they cause problems, return the KLH player

I had pretty good luck with Sanyo units from Walmart.

I picked up a RCA 5 Disc Changer at Sam's Club and so far I am very happy with it. Plays everything fine including DVD-R and DVD+RW. Nice remote, headphone jack and progressive scan. It's $119. Three year extended warranty is $13 extra.

Be careful with super cheap, no name brands. I had some trouble with a "Lennox Sound" model in that price range. Under some circumstances, discs would get stuck in the player and when they finally were ejected - scratch city!
