I'm not in very good shape anymore
I'm not so young anymore
I don't live in California
It might get me in trouble with my job
My wife might get pissed
I don't like DPs
I don't like ATMs
One of the reasons I would do porn is that my dick is plenty big enough and quite nice looking, too!

1. Porn valley is half a country away from me.
2. I'm too old
3. I'm ugly and out of shape. Nobody wants to look at my potbelly.
4. I don't have any STDs that I'm aware of. With my luck, I don't want to take any chances.
5. I can't cum on cue
6. I wouldn't work with people I didn't like

1. My boyfriend won't be my boyfriend if I have sex with other men. It's a deal breaker. I could have sex with other women, but I'm not doing g/g or solo porn anyway because...
2. I don't want to be cast as a MILF.
3. I don't want to be in ugly porn.
4. I don't want to be desperate for a shoot.
5. I'm ready to move on and put space and time between my next career and my porn career.

I tried it for a while and could not handle it mentally, it fucked me up.
Maybe if any male or female performer reads this, they can relate.
I could not separate sex and emotion. Emotion in the sense that if I am intimate with someone, even with lights, pictures snapping, cameras going and people in the room, I still would walk away from the scene with some level of emotional attachment to who I just had sex with.
It has always been like that in my personal life too. If I have sex with someone, I crush on them. I fall in love. I'm a big, mushy softy that way, (a big pussy). One night stands, long term relationships, drunken debauchery, it always happens, regardless of the circumstances.
As far as family, morals, STDs, performing on camera, feeling like a whore, being with someone unattractive or otherwise, I never had a problem with any of that.

I wouldn't want people around me to know
I wouldn't want to be recognized
I might not be up for all kinds of weird acts
I would need to be in better shape
My cock is only average size although my cumshots are quite good
The risk of STDs doesn't help either
I might not be the right kind of person (but who knows until you've tried)

I didn't want them posted on the boards. I actually had a different ADT username before, but changed it for just that reason (thanks drew).
I used about 10 different names in the mid-late 80's, sometimes using my real ID as proof, other times I used a fake one. They were not very picky until 2257 became a reality. I did a few dozen shoots for Wet Video, Gourmet, Fantasy, some others I don't remember.
The production values were pretty bad, there were often still cameras taking pics during the shoots - who knows where they ended up. There was no AIM. There was no glamour or glitz. The cameras were bulky and always broke, Betacams or Betamovie I think they were called - anyway, they sucked and made white people orange and black people dark and shiny. It was a mess.
If you will be at AVN, let me know and I will come say hi and see if you give me that curious look I sometimes get - haha.

List the reasons why you don't do porn...I am not that well hung when the director would shout "Action" the porn girl would take one look at my maggot, roll her eyes and say "Fucking hell,i might as well have that cigarette just now"

I always thought to myself about many of these issues if I had a chance to be a porn peformer.
I still sometimes have trouble grasping that concept when I watch my favs but I always still think of those things when I wonder what it's like to live the life of a male pornstar.

I don't do "porn" because I see no point in acting in movies where the directors by and large do not consider themselves artists.

Damn! If they really don't pay the guys more than $200, it's no wonder the male talent is often just lousy. I would think it would be just the opposite. There aren't a lot of really good male performers. The ones who are there should be well compensated.

1. I'd do it way before I'd "Dance" (strip).
2. Too old and no contrary to some it's far too hard to break in past 30.
3. Takes up too much time between travelling and shooting.
4. No desire to get into the low-quality, amateur genre' of porn (of course I'd want to start at the top! LOL).
5. Concerned about my family seeing me.
6. It has taken me too long to stake a name out in my "Day" profession and I don't want to give that up.
7. I can still dabble part time in the sex provider business without being dumped on a la all of the other pornstars who are termed whores.
8. I wish to maintain control over with whom I have sex.

Most US studious pay men roughly $400 for a scene.
Then again, most males in porn are over 30 and just plain ugly.

^That's not why they invented the "no" list. The "no" list is only for a small handful of performers that are a serious problem for you to work with. In general you show up to set and you fuck who they tell you to fuck. It's not exactly "control" over who you have sex with.

@bartx, since you mentioned being active in mid 80s, I probably never heard of you. I was too young to watch porn back then. [:P)]
I think it's pretty well balanced, actually. Guys may get paid less per scene, but they also get to work more. Some can squeeze out three scenes a day. Check IAFD's statistic on well-known and active male talent. Nearly all of them have huge number of titles to their name, and in most of those titles they probably appeared in more than one scene. Plus male performers have the potential to stay much longer in the business.

They'd probably try to work more anyway but it could also be argued they work more because they have to. Which no doubt lowers the quality of the individual performances considerably in many (if not most) cases. They also have a harder job. A woman can fake an orgasm. A man can't. Women are not always expected to have orgasms in porn. The male is pretty much expected to have one (a real one) in every scene.
At my sexual peak, I could jack off about 6 times a day but I was barely getting more than a dribble after the first go.
I think that's my point. It's hard on the performers and it sucks for the customer. Forcing a few guys to work all the time can't possibly be good for getting the best performances.
Again, I think that pretty much proves my point. Most porn really suffers because the male performers don't perform well in the vast majority of scenes. The male sex drive really has to be hammered to bring it down to what you see in a lot of these flicks. Many of the guys might be doing the best they can but as a customer, you don't see that. You wonder why this stallion isn't performing like a stallion.

Never had any interest in performing and the opportunity never presented itself either. And honestly the pay doesn't seem that great to me. I would say I'm not handsome enough either but when you see some of the trolls fucking girls...
I did have a chance to work 'behind the scenes' through a friend of mine but never pursued it, the people involved seemed unbalanced and had drug problems.

The other day I was thinking that if someone just wanted to go to LA for porn then be warned that you are in a wasted land and don't be surprized if you get wasted. Porn opportunities ought to be available all over north America now if you are sick of your digs cos you've been there all your life and wanna get out and live a one sided lifestyle that could potentially waste you that's one thing but to go to waste land just to earn some money is crap its pathetic, apparently it never occured for lobbyists to change things on a mass scale for north america, it never occured it just didn't happen. Nice replies thanks everyone.

A long time ago I was thinking that your average American joe wouldn't care do porn, most guys wouldn't care for it despite how alluring and unusual it seems to be on the surface. I suppose most guys would like to have a few gorgeous babes for themselves on a regular basis but this work in realty might seem ridiculous to them.

Well, for the most part, there is no need for acting in porn and secondly, the most god awful boring porn is made the minute a director considers himself an artist.

Honestly? Way too much risk. Too many STDs.
Pretty much everyone in the industry has asymptomatic herpes. Probably all of the top performers. Remember when Belladonna got nervous last year? It wasn't that she had herpes... she contracted it years ago, when she first entered the industry. She got nervous because it came out of remission and she started getting sores in places she never had before
Then there's the really dangerous stuff. Nobody wants to talk about it, but the HIV scare of 2004 could easily happen again. All it takes is one irresponsible person in an industry that's full of irresponsibility.
Think about it, there were producers who were still shooting and performers who were still working DURING the outbreak, when no one knew who was okay. How fucked up is that? That's the porn world for you.
As a consumer, it is easy to sit back and enjoy watching all this hot unprotected sex. But the reality is porn is risky business. Every performer takes a risk every time they do a scene. It can be very sobering to think about, this post is probably turning people off, but this is the reality

I don't want to be jaded. For every girl that you have chemistry with and have a good time fucking, there will be 5 others just watching the clock and punching in their time card. The male talent have to go to some dark places to belt out a good performance sometimes. Then you have to fuck in uncomfortable positions under hot lights and I can only imagine the smells that arise in some of the raunchier scenes. Furthermore, I'm not a pounder. I like going down on women, but porn is all about pistoning penii anymore it seems.
Finally, I don't want to see the misery and self-deception going on with many of the women. Sure they are making some bank, but their friends and family and anonymous crusaders are wearing them down... and many of these people already have low self-esteem.
I'm comfortable in my life already. I wouldn't need the money.

Most of the woman I've been with tell me that I missed my calling as a male porn actor. However, I have made several of the home video kind. I gotta say, even that was a pain in the ass. Call me a purist, but camera on tripod with wide shot is not fun to watch later. It was exhausting , making sure the angles are good, lighting is right and body parts not obscuring the action.
Oh well. I'm pretty content despite never trying my hand in the valley. Every one of my partners came back for encores, despite the husbands and boyfriends. That's enough for me, to know that in their mental rolo-dex I was a porn star to them.

STDs
Apparently everyone in porn has herpes. Or so I am led to believe by the items I've read online, which the response to seems to be, "It's no big deal." Uh ... that's a big deal to me. And that makes me wonder: are people new to the industry told about this? And if so, are they so careless, lazy, and money hungry that they just don't care? Think about it: a "career" in porn lasts a few months to a few years? But you will have a life-long disease.

Congratulations! Do you feel better now that you were able to name one person out of 1000 other porn directors that may possibly contradict what I was referring to? But then again, even Spielberg puts out a piece of crap every now and then. I can't begin to tell you what or how Stagliano thinks, I'm not inside his head.

actually, it would be a little harder for such a scare to happen again.
AIM is the testing facility that the industry uses. at least, here in Cali, but i'm pretty sure they're nation wide. i got a few gigs being some mope (random stunt cock) for a few producers. every job i got thrown my way i had to provide a test from AIM. if i remember correctly the minimum test i could get away with was the HIV/Gon/Cly test.
anyway, the method that they currently use to test for HIV is more advance than that of 2004.
in 04, they used the PCR/Elisa method. this one tests for your body's response to the presence of the HIV virus. i believe the WBC (white blood cell) count is what they look at. so if you had an unusually low immune response, you'd get a false negative. or if not enough time had passed you'd get a false negative: from date of exposure you'd need a good 6+ months to get an accurate result with that test.
since 04 they now use the HIV-DNA method. with this they can actually check the DNA within cells from your body and determine wether or not any HIV particles are present. this is still accurate as, as you can imagine, as soon as a virus is present within the body it will immediately begin infecting healthy cells and reproducing. but this virus likes to lay dormant, as we all know, and this is what makes it so dangerous. well, that it's rate of mutation and how it likes to attack T-cells. but i digress, sorry...i went into geek mode for a sec.
anyway, some people say 2-3 weeks is enough time for an accurate result (AIM states 14 days). i think i've even heard some sources say 28 days is necessary.
but there is still that window of opportunity. there may never be a 100% fool-proof method. so you are right, all it takes is one irresponsible person...

It would be nice if you had your facts right.
In 2004 AIM did use the PCR testing method. That is the HIV DNA method.
The Elisa/Western blot test has not been used by AIM since 2000.
The problem wasn't with AIM's testing method, it was with the industry practice of testing every 30 days. If you are infected the day after your last clean test, then you have 30 days to infect people before your next test.

That is not the only thing I measure a performance by. But it does matter to me if the guy seems like he's hungry for sex or not. I prefer to see performances by guys who relish their roles the way an ordinary man would if he just got that lucky. It's pretty hard to get into the scene when you can practically hear the dude yawning.

There is an art to doing anything well. You can be taught how to do just about anything acceptably. Only you can put your own personal touch on your product. It will either be something with wide appeal or it won't be. It's very difficult to make sex look good anyway. The problem with porn is that there are not a lot of really creative people. Whether they consider themselves artists or not is irrelevant.
I've seen dead dick boring porn made by people who apparently thought they were artists and I've seen boring porn made by people who think there's no such thing as artistic porn and everything in between. If a person can put out a consistently good product, he or she is probably a lot closer to being an artist than you seem to want to give credit for. Any fool can point a camera at a naked woman. And the guys who just pick up a camera, slap a fisheye lens on it and start shooting with no vision and no inspiration and nothing special in mind are usually the ones who make the dullest porn. We've all seen that porn flick a billion times. That guy doesn't even know what he thinks is sexy. Much less have any idea what other people might like.
I doubt Stagliano always thought he was an artist. There was probably a time when he just wanted to do something different because nobody else was doing it. That's art. That's creativity. To create something nobody else is doing. And not only that but to make it appealing to lots of people. That's why Staglano is who he is and everybody else is everybody else. I started buying Buttman movies because there was nothing else like them. Other people can be creative and be just as successful as Stagliano. Yes. Creativity is rare in porn. But it's not impossible and John proves it.

Many reasons, to list just a few:
1. STDs
2. pretty sleazy job
3. friends & family
4. don't live in LA
5. difficult for a man, starting at the bottom
6. some sex things are gross and would never do, such as own creampie eating or such homo-erotic stuff
7. very shit pay at the bottom, even at the top I make a lot more now than I would as a porn star
8. people recognising me
9. fucking people I really have no interest in & not attracted to
10. would be hard to sustain a proper relationship - can't be good fucking endless people day in day out
why I might... well endowed, amazing control, fairly good looking :)

Other than being a class-A chicken-shit? That would be me. I fantasize about it like everybody else. I've been to several swing parties, so I know I can perform. i've directed a couple vids, here in NYC, back in the late 90's. CESAR PRODUCTIONS. STD's should be no problem if you're diligent. And smart. But there is no way I could do a DP. No-no-no. That membrane between the ass and pussy is very, very thin. Sorry, but I'm not rubbing dicks with nobody. Then there's the family thing. Too close. Too much respect. Not enough nerve on my part to be on camera. Besides I would have my network gig, if i did. But man....wouldn't I love it. Jenna, Sasha, Lindsey, Mackenzee, Jewel, Gina...I wish....I wish....I wish. This chicken-shit will stay here. Hey, I even lived in Northridge, and i worked for Fantasy Home Video. Thats right, Perry Ross. The opportunities were there. Buk-buk-buk-buuuk! (chicken sounds)
