I find it strange that US players apparently lack PAL playback capability. An alternative would be to order a PAL version from Europe and play it on your computer using PowerDVD or some such application.

Or, if you want to play it on a standalone dvd player, there are several video editing programs which are capable of converting PAL to NTSC and vice versa, a relatively inexpensive one is MAGIX Movie Edit Pro (MAGIX Video Deluxe in Europe), it can read dvd .vob files directly and can encode to mpeg2 and compile to dvd.

The orginal European GGG/666/JT movies don't have any kind of coding or copy protection so it is relatively easy to do;

You can do the same using an array of freeware programs but that will be more complicated. Look at these resources.

I was assuming that - considering the fact that every dvd player I've ever seen on the European market can handle both formats and this US player can't, plus I've read that a video capture/edit suite like Pinnacle has a US version that can only do NTSC - it was probably either a legal or a strategic issue to do with US dvd players.

I had the reverse problem in the VHS era when Anabolic and lots of other leading US labels were only available as US imports using NTSC. True multisystem VHS machines have always been expensive, but some (and later, most) Euro VHS players at least had NTSC playback capability. DVD players have solved that, since the only obstacle for playing US dvds would be regional coding, which most porn dvds don't have. I would have thought the same applied vice versa.
