Any suggestions for a line of site wireless solution to connect two buildings that are about 150 feet from each other? I am hoping for 100mbit speeds or better if possible. 56mbit is OK.
We've got an underground 100baseT cable between the two buildings at the moment and the lightning suppression at each end of the line isn't working. We're losing networking equipment with each big thunderstorm.

It might. I'm thinking more along the lines of an 802.11a wireless bridging solution. Just checking if anyone has experience with any of the various manufacturers' solutions.
SMC has a 108 mbit solution for a short distance like this. It will run 6mbits up to a few miles away.

I have two of those. One on each end of the line. They don't work for shit.

The highest speed you can get on Wlan is 54mbps. That is using 802.11g standard. To connect to building together you can use repeaters or you can bridge two wlan stations together to form a single network. To broadcast between, use a directional antennas to do that, line of sight is preferred when you do this type of setup.
Also, use a clear channel on the Wlan band, to get rid of interferences and slow speeds.

802.11a outdoor access points are claiming to be faster than 802.11g.

I did look at the wiki artical on it, it appears to be slower then 802.11g, but 802.11 is a standard for use indoors. If there is need for more speed, it is possible that a different standard and hardware is needed. 802.11a is also the oldest standard.

BTW, the wiki page is inaccurate as are many things on wikipedia.

Your storm problems stem from the two buildings having different grounds, and grounding potential.
You may be able to do something with your electrical system to correct this. For instance, if one of the buildings is fed electrically from the other, then feed the ground from the source building as well, rather than driving a separate grounding rod at the secondary building.
If you have two separate electrical services (meters), then you'd have to do some more research on how to isolate or equalize them.
Just like in automobiles or old tractors- check your grounds.

I had considered fiber but I'm not sure what kind of shape the plastic conduit is in.
There's a 2" PCV pipe that runs from one building to the other. It was originally used for a 100 amp aluminum power feed. When we had a separate meter installed I pulled the power cable through and followed it up with a bundle of cat5e outdoor cable. I knew it wasn't the greatest thing to do but it was easy and I had the cable. The network cable is permanently installed and switching to fiber would be a lot more costly than the wireless hardware.
I ordered the SMC units because I can expand it with high-gain directional antennas to provide internet service to our neighbors who are .5 mile down the street.
Those RuggedCom products look like they would do the trick but I can't find someone that sells them online to check pricing.

Yeah, they certainly looked expensive. The 5 yr warranty indicated the same thing.

The items are backordered. The slave units are available but the master unit is still out a few weeks.
