Based on all the hype she's received in the past 6 months or so, she's probably the biggest "Star" in the world of porn. Not taking anything away from the biggest Pornstar AKA Angela White, (just using as an example for comparative purposes only) but Maitland has gotten way more mileage out of a few scenes than all of Angela's awards, success, and showcases.
At least once every 2 weeks, you'll see a mainstream article about Maitland and her success on OF and all the $ she's raking in. I've even seen an article or two about lawsuits. Through some serious P/R with most likely a mainstream team, Maitland was able to channel her mainstream "name" into porn success.
Personally, when I saw "Boy Meets World" in the first title, I was hoping for it to be Topanga.
Jumping ahead! Now let's compare Maitland to Bunny Slippers. Bunny has had a decent porn career and done most things for most companies, but Bunny is younger than Mait, but brings a few years of performing a few scenes a week to the table. Bunny shows up, gets hair and make up, spends time on her phone, shoots, gets paid, leaves, and may or may not go shopping /parties it up.
Maitland on the other hand, spent several years on a mainstream production with literally the best production people in the world. (Mainsteam Hollywood) She's also there 40+ hours a week getting directed/listening/absorbing all sorts of creative/technical info that go into producing a popular show and making sure it looks good in the process.
Jump to the porn set. Bunny and Mait show up. Bunny plays on her phone. Mait looks at the script and through her BMW time is able to offer input into making the scene pop. The director says, "hmmmm, that's a good idea, Okay, Bunny instead of you doing this that or the other thing, why don't you do this instead!" Girls and ppl can be jealous all they want, but Maitland is damn freaking hot and fucks like she loves it. So many stars and girls in porn who just looks bored. Maitland brings it every sceene, she loves it.
^Well, it's like I said before, she was a legitimate mainstream actress (albeit, not that well known). That's always going to be a huge advantage in a business where most of the performers are, at best, capable amateurs (at least when it comes to acting). She either genuinely enjoys fucking on camera, or is simply better at pretending.
I can quite understand why other girls are jealous and resentful. There will be performers who have been doing this for years, for relatively meagre rewards, and then, out of the blue, in comes this outsider, who attracts huge attention and presumably a shit-ton of cash. From purely a technical or artistic aspect, check out the Blacked scene where she's the real estate agent. Then jump ahead to a few minutes before the cumshot, where's she's looking up at the guy and just selling the hell out of it because that's what its all about. She's working it with the dialogue, the pacing, the looks. I'd also bet that she practiced how she's going to say it. Then compare that to the average scene where Bunny just has her mouth open and says, "Cum on my fucking face!" or "give me that fucking cum!" They'll then have nothing else to really say, but try to wing it with another phrase that has the word "fucking" in it. As in "stroke that fucking cock!" or something easily as lame.

I agree, thats why i doont watch like 80+% of all the hottest babes in porn, they are out of this world hot, but they are so wodden and boring to watch. For me porn, is like real life, please make it fun and great. So i have moved on to the girls and production that gives me that.
Maitland is a star and a household name. Very few actors/performers break through to become household names. To be a great erotic performer, you need to have a great body and a pretty/young face. But a star has to also have that rare combination of photogenic face, charisma, personal magnetism
^I would dare to suggest she is not a household name. The vast majority of people would never have heard of her. She had some very, very minor mainstream success a long time ago, and she's been able to parlay that into porn success. She's becoming a very big name in porn and that is probably raising her profile a little in the mainstream world, but she ain't a household name.
I saw White Chicks a few times but never realized she was in it. I did however know her well from Boy Meets World. I think I watched that entire series through at least 4 times as a kid. While I always favored Topanga, I thought Rachel (Maitland) was really hot because of her red hair which is kinda my fetish. Mary Carey, Janine, and others became well known outside of porn and it didn't seem to boost their porn career much. In the end the important factor for pornstar success is appeal and/or performance skills.

Not true Jenna Jameson and Jesse Jane were the worst performers in the business and yet they made more money and were more popular ! Thousands of guys have paid Jenna Jameson and made her success for years while contenting themselves with mediocre performances and not at the level of the best girls in the business!
First of all... Just because you don't like JJ and JJ's performances doesn't mean that no one liked them. I never watched any Jenna Jameson but I think Jesse was a solid performer and enjoyed watching her. Secondly, I clearly said "appeal" is part of it. Sometimes that appeal is the girl's look, sometimes it's her personality, sometimes that appeal is there but hard to put your finger on. No one repeatly watches a girl they don't enjoy watching. If a girl is popular they've got something or doing something many people like. Prior fame can only work to get eyes on the girl that first time. If she doesn't have something to make people keep coming back she can't sustain a career.
