I only had to fast forward once - when they had two lesbian scenes back to back (a sure sign of padding!). The sex scenes were the perfect length, for a refreshing change. I also really enjoyed the music for each sex scene - the best music I have ever heard in a porno! I couldn't call it the best feature going around as it didn't have a terribly complex plot. It is like so many porn movies in that 'crazy girl' genre that Vivid, in particular, has relied on time and again over many years. [Link]

We try to make our list of includes for each movie as accurate as possible by watching the movies ourselves. The best XXXers are usually 2/3 plot v 1/3 sex, to 75% plot and 25% sex, but at 95 min, that means closr to 50 min should be plot, which keeps it on the level with most 70s XXX features (that said, the average length of a 70s XXXer was 75-80 min, making 50 min of plot more substantial percentage wise). Finally, Mr. Wombat, what's the length of the sex scenes? You say they're of "proper" length, which means 5 min or less to me. [Link]

And yes, it is a film, maybe or maybe not the last full 35mm one this industry will produce, but either way, one that utilizes the format to more bravura effect than just about any other this critic can recollect in his 20-plus years of porn viewing. Sasha Grey is Malice, a patient in a gloomy mental facility who after sustaining a nasty round of shock treatment, follows a midget in a Donnie Darko-esque rabbit suit down a hole in the basement, which transports her to the warped desert land where she spends the rest of the movie fleeing Jabbowski (non-sex actor Dirty Fred), sycophantic henchman to the sanitarium's warden, Dr. Queenie (Andy San Dimas). Soon Malice hooks up with the Hunter S. Thompson-modeled Chester Catz (Keni Styles), who helps her stay one step ahead of Jabbowski in exchange for letting him snap a few Polaroids of her ... which quickly leads into one of the most authentically impassioned fuck sessions we've seen Grey perform. As the odyssey continues, more updated versions of Lewis Carroll's celebrated characters appear: there's "Matt Hatter," porn-directing brothers "Todd and Ted Tweed," and for a Caterpillar surrogate, titty bar proprietor Ron Jeremy. It's a commonly held (though not all that accurate) perception that the sex in features—especially artistically ambitious ones like this—leaves something to be desired. Not the case here. Aside from the aforementioned Grey/Styles bout, there's a scorching four-way to open the picture with San Dimas, Chayse Evans, Chris Johnson and Danny Mountain; an even hotter three-way toward the end with Styles, Juelz Ventura and Sadie West; and an all-girl three-way between Grey, Alyssa Reece and Kristina Rose that includes an inventive daisy-chain-like stint in which Rose bangs Grey in spoon with a strap-on while Grey does the same to Reece. Oh, but there's more: Kagney Linn Karter works up a pouring sweat in the back of a car with Alan Stafford, and Phoenix Marie gets tag-teamed by Tommy Gunn and Billy Glide, anal throttling including. Director Lew Xypher proved his chops with his striking, AVN Award-nominated debut release, Hell Is Where the Party Is. With this, only his second effort, he breaks through as a downright prodigy of the craft. The only shame is that thus far, Europe-based Miss Lucifer Productions has only released Malice in the PAL format, so here in the States, it's only viewable on a computer. Still, the packaging alone, with its hardbound covers and attached 20-page booklet of storyboards, still photos and more, makes this an instant collector's item. Click to expand Not to get into another argument with you, but how can you make that statement when you haven't seen it? I have seen it. I know at least 100 directors, 60, good directors, 35 really good directors, and 5 great directors, I don't think any could have done this. Working on 35mm film is an art that most do not know how to utilize, especially in porn. It is something that is reserved for mainstream cameramen and directors who have been around a long time.Most porn directors wouldn't know what to do with that budget, except pocket as much as they could. This money went into this movie, with a year and a half of post production. It is beyond exceptional. To make that kind of statement is somewhat ludicrous, with all due respect. [Link]

I always thought of you as the king of gonzo,a territory that I'm very unfamiliar with due to the large content and being on a very tight budget. I'm lover of almost all porn. I'm only making this comment because in my almost two years of being here at ADT I've only seen you post here in the Feature section maybe 3 or 4 times. It was shot incredibly well (35mm) and the director/producer, though thoroughly ripping off Donnie Darko for the rabbit, cleverly manipulates the Alice storyline. I have some complaints about the music though - it's far too repetitive (on a loop even) and overpowers the sex scenes. They had one artist do it all and they're mix of hardcore punk/driving rock (think: Dead Kennedys) was welcome, but again repetitive, but it drowns out the moans and cries of the performers. Maybe the DVD will work that out. Or maybe I just need new headphones lol. As for the sex, everything involving genitalia was fantastic but I couldn't get over the furry aspect. The rabbit, cat, and skintight leather mouse heads was frankly a turn-off. Keni and co. fuck furiously and the chicks really deliver, especially Sasha. [Link]

The set-ups and costumes are fun, the girls are hot, the scenario is colorful and wacky. But this isn't one for anyone who wants to enjoy a well-shot sex scene. The scenes are too short, and edited in a choppy style that makes them impossible to get into, and the "feature lighting" doesn't help at all. "La La Land" doesn't come within spitting distance of any of "The Fashionistas" titles ... which do everything better in spades, or even David Aaron Clark's swan song "Pure," which I imagine had to make do on a much smaller budget and knocked it out of the park. I'm surprised. For some reason, I thought the production company might have had some connection to Harmony UK, the influence of whose "feature/gonzo" style seems evident ... but not as successfully realized. I agree that most of the sex scenes didn't take off in terms of heat because of the editing, but the film also felt a bit skimpy on plot as well. I admire the effort and intelligence put into it though, it definitely looks way better shot than pretty much any other feature these days, including Fashionistas. I hope Lew Xypher gets to make another feature, as he has the talent to make a really good feature. [Link]

Sasha Grey, damn I miss watching her and we do get some good shots of that perfect ass. Keni Styles was very good too and I'm curious to know if his look was modeled after Johnny Depps attire in the Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas movie. They had a guy in this also that had to be modeled after Slash from Guns'n'Roses and along those lines the music chosen to play along with the scenes was very good. I enjoyed this one right up until the last 10 minutes when my copy fucked up. It kept playing audio but the picture froze on my computer and on my other player it showed some things but the picture wasn't that good so I missed Phoenix Marie's scene and the final bit where they get Sasha back. Other than that this was good and I'm glad I got a chance to check it out. Voting for the AVN's is turning out to be a good experience so far as I'm getting a chance to see some porn I don't otherwise see. [Link]
