I really like the older movies from this studio, but all the newer ones use condoms. A lot of the other major European studios (Private, Pinko, ATV) are condom-free. Does anyone know the reason for Marc Dorcel? Isn't AIM testing common in Europe?

^ It's my understanding that the feelings of French pornographers are different from those of other European countries. In France the major studios are becoming more conservative of late, using condoms, not doing any "extreme" acts, etc.
Others might know more about this, though.

It has nothing to do with what the pornographers want, it's the government regulations. For French producers the pay TV-channels are a major market (or even the ones who commission them to shoot in the first place) and condom use is mandated by the rules for broadcasting.

I am not aware of these rules or when they went into effect, or whether that it the single reason why VMD has taken that stance.
I started to see condom use in VMD movies a few years back when they began their association with Wicked Video in the US, when Wicked began releasing VMD titles in the USA. Aside from condom use, the quality of production has in my view considerably lessened. They have lost the edge from what they were producing in the late 1980-early 1990's.
Even VMD's internet sites have been greatly modified. It is not longer possible to download the box covers as well as screenshots of their movies. Even their box covers are masked and the naughty parts are censored over. I don't know the reasons for all these changes at VMD, but I have moved on, and non longer find their product that appealing...

Does anyone know up to what year Marc Dorcel movies are generally condom free? I really like their pre-condom material. The condom stuff is ruined in my opinion. It's such a shame as their production values are stunning. I believe possibly the most superior of any studio including Private in their hey-day.

I clicked on the lone movie review above (top of the page) and that Laure Sinclair flick from 2000 used condoms. I don't remember condom use in her earlier flicks so I guess sometime in the late '90s is when condoms crept into these Dorcel films.

I can't recall the exact year, but it was sometime in the early 00s that French porn (to its eternal credit) moved to all-condom. Condoms were almost totally absent in the mid-90s Laure Sainclair period, but they were already pretty prevalent by the end Melanie Coste one. Most of Oksanna D'Harcourt's work was condomised, though not all of it. So, call it turn-of-the-century.
I used to love VMD in the 80s and 90s, and considered it the best porn studio bar none. After Oksanna hang her porn panties though and the execrable Herve Bodilis became the standard director of the firm, I have switched right off them. Nothing to do with condoms of course; as I mention I would love it if all porn became universally condomised, as I do not get off seeing people take nonzero chances with their health for my entertainment and anyway I watch porn for the women and not for some dude's tackle. It has everything to do with boobjobs becoming universal, the material awfully stylised, the picture dark and shadowy, the makeup ultra glam, and of course the addition of that godawful droning voiceover. Poor Michel Ricaud will be turning in his grave. From his fun, energetic, good-natured videos to this tripe...
