Honestly, I sometimes wish I could be a little more like Mason myself. Mason is a true artist IMHO. I don't think Mason feels the need to plaster her face and personal business everywhere all in her movies etc. And why would she? She's not a performer and her voice is there to narrate from time to time, which to me is one of the reasons why I was always attracted to her work. I liked the mystery. I liked the fact that although the concepts and the pairings are all via Mason's creative and twisted mind, she always captures the scene so that it is about the performance and the performers. Although she's always there to narrate and make us feel at home with her familiar voice, she never overshadows that performance with her presence. Mason is just a private person in general and I feel very lucky and fortunate that I am one of a very lucky few that has a personal friendship with her and even then she is still just a private person. That's just her natural nature. Maybe that's why we get along so well. I admire her ability to be so private and I know she's told me before, (on camera I believe) that she admires how open I am. IDK, Mason is a very unique person and I enjoy her quirks. I'm attracted to artistic people. I have a lot of artist friends and a lot of them are very private, just like Mason. So, honestly I don't think it's weird at all. Anonymity is really taken for granted nowadays. And trust me, I would know. Her movies are about her performers and their sexuality and the exploration of that and how she can help create a situation where each performer can reach an even higher level of intensity for each scene. This is why Mason is the best and most cutting edge in the business right now. And I know damn well, I'm not the only one that would agree with that statement. I could see if you were a performer in the past like Belladonna or Kimberly Kane etc, how being on camera is important. Who they are and their past performances are what is going to attract most of their audience. So to me that makes sense. But weather the director wants to be seen or not etc, really doesn't affect the quality of the product for me. It's about whether or not they were able to put together a magical scene, not the image of the director. And as far as Mason "exploiting" female performers.... ROTFL so fucking hard I pissed my pants. Girls in this industry beg to shoot for Mason. I think more female performers are in love with Mason than they are with Manuel. lol. HA! I have so many girls tell me they want to shoot for her so bad. So many girls say they're holding out on things like their first anal's etc, because they only want to do it for Mason. Mason is just one of those magical people. If you've had the chance to meet her and really get to know her, you fall in love with her. It just happens. Ask any girl that's shot for her. There's just something about her. When you shoot for Mason you wanna go harder than you ever have. You want every scene you do for her to be the BEST. There's just something about her. I think the fact that Mason is so private is also what makes me feel so special about our friendship. I know she doesn't get that personal with very many people. I feel special. She's mostly proud of the girls she works with, and many of them are very close outside of the business. Mason is a director. Not an owner, manager, or press rep. All directors bring different qualities to the industry, and different approaches, just like in mainstream. It's an artistic craft. Some directors are inclined to be very public, and others aren't. Some change over time. I wouldn't read anything too deep into it. The best examples I can offer of her pride is the time and energy she puts into her work, technically improving her camerawork, and the relationships she has with those that work with her... Every movie means so much to Mason. Generally speaking that's the one quality that always separates good directors from bad, in my opinion. From Tori Black Is Pretty Filthy, Asa Akira Is Insatiable, and most recently Gangbanged... no matter what the title is I know if Mason is directing she will give it her all. She always has the perspective of a customer/fan (because that's what she used to be). She will go over every tiny detail to make her work the best it can be for you. Elegant Angel wouldn't be in the position it is today without the amazing collaborations she has managed with spectacular talent, and the fact she has put so much pride into her work.
