When Apple service came to fix it, they replace the motherboard and CPU block (it's a multi processor machine). Virtually a complete overhaul, but that didn't bring the computer back to life. It's fun to think the M&K footage is so scorchingly hot it did extensive damage to the computer. Because I am at the phase of the edit where I am editing in uncompressed 10 bit High Definition, which require a relitively high powered computer, a specialized video card, and a specialized RAID (disc storage) card, I cannot continue working on the laptop machine upon which I am currently typing. (This laptop is more than powerful enough to work on DV "draft" versions, and I often use it to edit at the beach between bouts of fishing or surfing.) I am effectively dead in the water until the G5 is up and running, so if Mason is on task, every day that goes by she's another day ahead of me. Considering my past performance, the safe money would be on Mason anyway. But we were making very good progress on M&K and it might have been a race, until the G5 went down.
