I heard a news story saying that men shaving their pubic hair is now the norm, at least for younger men, and that young women who get with a man who doesn't are "grossed out."
Is this true? I knew it was in porn, but I didn't know it had translated into everyday life. I wouldn't know personally, unfortunately.

Other than porn, I don't see other men's dicks so I can't really comment if it's the "norm" among guys nowdays. But I shave. I shave it down to the skin on my sack and the base of the shaft. As for the hair above the shaft, I trim it very short and I also shave the outlying parts just to give it a cleaner look. The major benefits of doing this: 1) it's much more pleasant to lick smooth, hairless skin than a bushy nutsack (so I've been told), and 2) trees always look taller when the grass around them is trimmed (I need all the help I can get).
If you decide to do this, you may find that the first couple of times you shave it, your skin may get irritated and itchy. Putting some kind of moisturizing lotion or after shave balm on it right after you shave may help a little.

Well, it wasn't like a story on the 4 o'clock news, but some people on a radio show were talkin' about it.
As for right now, I'm not planning on doing anything. . . it doesn't seem that thick, especially compared to some guys I've seen from 7s porn. But if a chick ever says she would rather it be shaved (fingers crossed and God willing), it will be done and done.

I don't know about younger men but I rarely shave my face. I know I'm not gonna bother shaving my balls. I trim the hair short every now and then just to keep it from getting too wild but other than that? Whatever.

There are probably some guys who do it. But I seriously doubt if the majority of guys do it, or if it's as commonplace as some people make it seem. Generally speaking, the average guy isn't exactly known to go out of his way for something so unneccessary. We shower, brush our teeth, and perform other regular grooming habits because we have to. Anything beyond that is just asking too much.
Personally, I think that even porn guys take the shaving thing too far. Most of them just end up looking like depilated prepubescent boys.
Besides, who in the real world has time for all that? I'm always already rushing just to get through everything else I have to do to groom myself everyday. And I thought flossing was time-consuming.
This reminds me of some funny dialogue I heard in a movie once (can't remember which movie). A guy is telling his buddy about a date he's going on that night. The buddy tells the guy that he should put cologne on his balls. When the guy asks why, his buddy tells him that if a woman is going to put her face down there, then the cologne makes it more appealling to her. Then, in the following scene that takes place after the date, the woman is talking to her girlfriend. In a tone of utter disgust, the woman asks her girlfriend, "Is it normal for guys to put cologne on their balls?"
Basically, I don't think women really expect guys to shave their body hair. I just think it's one of those ways that perhaps porn has affected what guys think women like.

I shave All my pubic hair, I prefer how it looks and feels but that's not the main reason!
My current gf and previous gf's have orgasmed during missionary much easier when I'm shaved. They explained it to me, its the friction of my skin on there pubic bone, this stimulates the clit and gets them off, when you are all hairy you lose this friction. You have to try and sort of drag the area just above your cock against the area just above your girls clit! it's not the penetration part of sex that gets them off , it's the friction on the pubic bone!
I so love making by gf cum during actual sex, rather than foreplay, and she loves it too, shaving is such a simple way to increase the pleasure of sex! I'd add that it's aslo important that your girl is shaven too!

My BF is hair-free in the lower pubic area and well trimmed in the upper pubic area. He doesn't do it for me, he likes it better for himself.
I like it just fine :)
Really? In my experience that hurts like hell. I always hated it when guys tried to grind the base of their penis upwards towards my clit. It felt like it was tearing me down below and crushing me up above. No good side to that one. Almost always left me feeling like my urethra was irritated, too.
Different strokes for different folks.

What I do definitely doesn't hurt my gf, she's told me how great it feels and also that it's much better when we're both shaven. It's not like constant grinding either, I mix in some shallow strokes too. I can get her to orgasm every time we have sex in missionary, even with very little foreplay.

About a month ago i shaved off all my pubic hair i am going to keep it this way now and it looks much better,i can honestly say it does give the impression of having a bigger/thicker cock when looking down,i was quite hairy before i took the plunge and shaved it all of and now that it has grown in i am keeping it trimmed or freshly shaved every couple of weeks now.

I just use a razor and soap/shaving cream. The trick is to pull the skin tight and smooth before you run the razor over it. If you don't pull the skin tight, it's easy to nick the skin.

Instead of shaving cream or foam, just use hair conditioner... It does exactly the same thing (Softens the hair) and it does it better.... and it's cheaper.
,-)
I use it on my face and I'll never buy shaving foam/cream again.

Doubt there's a "norm" but I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of teenagers and people in their early 20s do it these days.

^I'd be surprised, and amused, to find out that it's a majority, or even a sizable minority.
I think that shaving body hair is still mainly a feminine thing. But perhaps I'm just old-fashioned that way.

I don't think too many men shave, but I do think many men trim considerably. I'm one of those guys for some the reasons that the other posters have already listed like:
Looks nicer
Out of respect for a female that hopefully in my lifetime might be going down there.
Just feels better too.

I think it's a matter of personal priorities: I don't shave my face that often but do my balls and under-arms every week or so. It adds a couple of minutes to a shower, so is not remotely time-consuming.

I shave my balls and trim my pubic area on a regular basis.
It looks cleaner, nicer and... BIGGER! :-)))
I think is nice and respectful as well... you don't want to look like a monkey!
I also trim my armpits.

I have been shaving/ trimming for years for three main reasons:
1) It looks bigger
2) It feels better
3) The less hair down there, the more oral attention I receive from my wife
From random talks with other guy friends, almost all have shaved at one point in time, and well over half still do.
My friends and I are mostly late 20's/ early 30's

I'm not a big fan of hair....anywhere! I think it's super sexy when a guy shaves. To me I get excited because I know the guy took the time to take care of that area because he wanted it to look good for me. A guy that cares about his appearance, especially in that area, is definitely worth fucking! I don't think there's anything sexy about going to blow a guy and getting a mouthful of pubes. Tame that shit guys, even if it's just a trim! Most guys don't like bushes, it goes the same when it comes to guys. Keep that shit under control! lol

I have quite the eclectic group of friends who are all fairly open with each other.
I think it initially started with one who has somewhat low self-esteem wanting confirmation that he was not a freak because he shaved his nether regions. That sparked the topic and since then it is something that occasionally comes up in conversation.

I alternate between being completely shaved, and having some hair. That is, I usually shave it all off at least twice a week for one or two months, then let it grow out for 3 weeks to a month, etc. I shave my pubes, balls, anus, and even my arm pits. I even have to tweak some hairs off from around my nipples, but I don't have any chest or back hair.
(I'm not a speed swimmer or anything like that, but I thought, if I'm going to shave those nether regions, might as well shave my arm pits, too, huh? I love my facial hair, though... my genes have allowed me to never deal with a beard! Makes it easy to take off when I need to, or feel like it. :))
Last year, I did let it grow out for about three months... I am a long haired dude, and yeah... I like the hirsute look somewhat too. But I'm back to the alternating method for the moment.
This time, I am thinking of leaving some hair trimmed above my joystick and nutsack. We'll see. I've never done that before.

Hi there
I am 44 year old male and started shaving down below about 6 months ago. I always wanted my wife to shave herself bare but she always had ingrown hair issues.
Have always been a big believer in if you can’t do it yourself, don’t expect others to and then got out the razor and went for it shaving everything bare.
Never had any ingrown hairs and to be honest, it felt pretty darn good but at the same time, cannot say I entirely liked the look on me so I let it grow back again.
While it was growing back, there was a bit of itching but nothing too dramatic however the main point for me was that I thought everything looked nicer trimmed as opposed to bare.
Bit of research and 6 months later, I shave bare around the nether regions and shaft which feels good and trim close over the top which to me, looks good. Occasionally I do something similar to the airstrip just for a change of scenery.
I’m happy with where I’m at and my wife has not complained and as an aside, she has not given me a BJ for years now, not her thing, so that was never really a motivating factor for me to do this.
I have helped her shave on occasion since then with different tools of trade but she still has the ingrown hair issue. As careful as I have been, and I do believe that I am very careful, we are both agreed that perhaps her hair follicle and skin type combination mean that probably only a specific shaving instrument would allow her to do this successfully and without irritation. One day.
Been interesting getting to this point in terms of learning tips and tricks and as of now, I am happy with my current look down there which requires about 5 minutes maintenance twice a week.
I’m currently dry shaving which works fine for me.
Cheers

^ Very nice post, Mumbler. Appreciate your sharing.
I trim my pubes but haven't shaved. My girlfriend appreciates that there's less pubes that find their way into her mouth while BJing. Don't think I'll ever go back to having a full growth.

I started doing it for several reasons:
1) I noticed more of "today's" women I'm dating are trimming more than ever before, so I joined in. I love the look of wild hairy pussy, though. Huge turn-on. I use a beard trimmer and keep it about 1/4" thick, without being artistic.
2) The older we get, our hair everywhere loses its oily-ness and becomes more scraggily and dry-looking, so keeping it shorter makes it look better and can disguise our age a bit.
3) I'd rather have my balls look smooth than resemble a spikey sea urchin (dry, using a Mach 3).
4) I shave the shaft so my pubes don't act like dental floss to her teeth (dry, using a Mach 3).
5) If my pubes start going gray, I might shave to make my package look less old and undesirable.
Body hair serves a lot of purposes, especially friction. Ever shave your armpits? I did once, and it was horrible. Skin kept getting caught on itself, then the stubble was irritating as hell. I don't know how women live like that. It's sucks. Just like if you shave your balls and your legs, your nutsack keeps clinging to your thighs and you're always ajusting yourself. And forget about shaving the hair in your buttcrack... That's the epitome of unpleasant when you have to start walking around. The pubes allow for "glide-ability" between surfaces AND their texture and firmness aid in stimulating your partner's privates and all the skin, in general. Ever have your lady give you a massage and her long hair lightly dances off your back or ass or brushes across your cock? That's some exiting shit. Bald pussy is usually gross, to me.

Well the base should be shaved, because that would be a lot less painful then having a condom rip em out. After about the third time removing a condom and a bunch of pubes came out with it, I decided to get myself a spare razor.

I decided a couple of years ago to shave. I just never liked the way I looked down there (I AM a rather hairy guy). At lest one lady seemed to appreciate it but I like the way it looks and feels now. Is it selfish to say that I do kinda look bigger also?

I like to get my dick sucked, and I like my balls licked/sucked. So I've always shaved. And girls appreciate it. Just make sure you're relatively recently shaved before action as otherwise the stubble can hurt them whereever you are shoving it.
I doubt however that they are grossed out, unless you forgot to clean your cock or don't have good hygiene.

I have to respectfully disagree. I don't shave my chest, or my pelvic line...other then into a happy trail. Or my arms etc and yes I expect when having sex that my chest or lower stomach will be kissed so I'm going to say something different for everybody.

You aren't going to get the closest shave possible from any device that has a protective cover between your face and the blade.
Also, since hair is mostly keratin I'm leery of using any chemical that's supposed to remove it. I'm not taking a chance on what it will do to the keratin in my skin.

No, it's not the norm, it's a fashion
being among porn actors or others
I can understand to keep it short or very short (at least not to let the jungle go everywhere)
BUT
When it's totally bald it's ugly and horrible, as somebody already said here "Most of them just end up looking like depilated prepubescent boys" and it's a disturbing idea.
I think porn actors do it for their cocks to look bigger on the screen (which must be an ingredient of porn) and maybe also for hygienic reasons.
I also don't like the complete shaving on women for the same reasons, and aesthetically I prefer when there's at least a bit of hair left, being shaven very short, even a thin line above the pussy, even being very hairy is better than bald.

Not sure if it's a norm. But definatly more common now then for a few years ago. My bf trim pretty well down there, leave some at the upper part toward the stomach, but the balls are pretty smooth.
The guys I've been with before him have been more or less trimmed too, if not shaved all together.
I think guys are more likely to take care of their bodies today, and to trim whatever hair you have are a part of it. Not saying you must shave it all off, but not let it grow wildly.

Lethena said: "definatly more common now then for a few years ago". This is what I call a fashion, just like there are more tatoos or piercings since numerous years ago, just like certain haircuts during certain periods. I remember maybe ten years ago many men suddenly grew a goatee for a while or wore a Kangol cap after Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp fiction".
Anyway she also said : "more likely to take care of their bodies today". Maybe it's a part of it, I understand she didn't promote to "shave it all off [only to] not let it grow wildly", but for those who shave it all off and think it's better whatever the reason they maybe should take information (on-line encyclopedia or anywhere) on the multiple functions of hair on certain parts of the human body.

Oh! I think you missunderstood me. I didn't promote anything, just tried to give an explination as how guys maybe see it. They might not want to shave it all of, but trim it because it might be an expression that they take care of their bodies.
As for me, I don't care really..as long as he smells nice and are clean, it's no problem for me with hair.
You're right though, the hair are there for a reason.

I didn't Lethena, I understood you didn't promote that, it's ok.
I'm French so my English is not perfect and maybe I made it a bit complicated when writing that.
We also agree the more important is to be clean (and I still like it, as it is so true how awful the complete shaving looks, when realtip said that taking "the shaving thing too far. Most of them just end up looking like depilated prepubescent boys").

I've been doing it for about 7 years now. I remove all the hair from my balls and scrotum, and up around the sides all the way to the base of the penis, top and bottom, including any hair on the shaft. Then I trim the rest of the hair to fingerlenth. I've tried other methods, i.e. landing strip, different lengths, etc., but I think this is what looks best for my body type. In my opinion, the more hair you're removing beyond the balls, the better shape you need to be in.
I do it for myself and for my wife, though she doesn't seem to care one way or another. Maybe she would if I let it grow back out.
She'll suck me off, but won't lick my balls, which I'm dying for, but she thinks it's gross the way the ball sack looks - which is totally unfair cause I've no problem licking her pussy - and if you think about it, the balls and pussy share some similar skin characteristics.
But I like my balls smooth, and she'll lube 'em up and rub them good, which is great.
I started off shaving, but the itching was too much. I actually find that if I shave, and don't shave again until the hair has grown out quite a bit, that I don't have a problem with itching. But if I shave, and then shave again a few day later, it itches very bad.
If I shave, I use a razor that's not new, it's safer for the blades to be a bit dull around irregular skin.
My wife used to do the bikini waxing at a salon, and it left her skin very nice for a long time, so I tried doing home waxing, but that didn't work out very well for me. Too difficult to do by myself. But after waxing a bit, I had to get the strays with tweezers, and that led me to what I do now - I just tweeze the hairs out. I know that sounds crazy, but it works great and lasts several weeks at least. It's totally smooth, and the new hair that comes in doesn't itch.
It takes longer to do it that way, but it's worth it to me. For the most part, it doesn't really hurt at all.
I'd also like to trim my armpit hair back a bit, but I haven't figured out a good way to do it so that it still looks natural.
