Not enough reviewers mention in their reviews that there is "rough sex" in the "movie" in question! ALL should in my opinion! So far I've been lucky re. reading reviews, buying DVDs, watching them, and not seeing any "rough sex". But I fear that someday my luck'll run out and as a result I'll be STUCK with a DVD that has "rough sex" in it. "Rough sex" ruins everything for me. I think there are lots of people out there who'd VERY much be grateful knowing that because the review didn't mention that there was any "rough sex" that they'll not be SUPRISED by something they find to be a HUGE turnoff. So PLEASE reviewers, mention in every review you write whether or not there's ANY "rough sex" in the "movie" in question!! Thank-you.

m_burlock

P.S.
Rough Sex: face slapping, chocking, angry look on a "performers" face, spitting in a "performers" face (as opposed to his or her mouth), excessive spanking, abusive language, a "performer" obviously being MADE TO DO something he or she DOESN'T want to do, and anything that most people would call "degrading".

You say this as if it's your God-given right to read reviews with exactly the criteria you outline.

As with most other things, "rough sex" is in the eye of the beholder. Some people's "angry expressions" might be interpretted by others as "passionate" ones. Some people's "abusive language" might be another's "hot dirty talk". How am I to know what and where it crosses the line in terms of your personal sensibilities.

You're welcome to make suggestions of reviewers, but you talk as if everyone should enjoy the same things you do, and those who don't should warn the "rational" people off. I'm certainly careful to point out where I think a movie might not appeal to different tastes, but aside from offering a little explanation as to why I might feel that way, that's about as far as I'm willing to go.

If a video is clearly marketed as "rough" or extreme it's easy to tell if it's not for you. What I hate is when a rough scene is the only one of its kind in the video and seems totally out of place. I don't think it's demanding too much for reviewers to consider warning potential renters/buyers about this if the video wasn't in the rough sex genre and had one out of place scene in it.

m_burlock,

I think there's a sight where the reviewer lists every act in each scene. I forget the exact url, but I think it's something like cavr.com.

I understand your point of view. I've been burned too many times when I rent a movie, thinking it's going to be something middle of the road, and then there's suddenly some rough sex in one scene, totally out of place with the rest of the movie. If I wanted a rough sex movie, I'd rent one.

As far as depending on the title of a movie to clue you in to its contents - forget it. Go to the price search and ask it to find all the movies that contain the word 'rough'. A grand total of 52 come up - and that includes gay movies and all the ones with the word 'through'.

MLyons suggestion is actually a good one - write your own reviews. It doesn't take much more than an hour to write one that's a couple paragraphs long, and you don't have to do screenshots. This way, you can let other fans know about the content of the movie, what you liked and didn't like, and whether it matched your expectations.

I've felt way better after writing reviews like that - and I've written some pretty critical stuff. Oddly enough, no studio or director has ever emailed me to say I'm offbase or 'don't get it'.

If you read many reviews , I believe that you become able to categorize different styles of movies and what acts they may contain. Naturally , in Gonzo and Wall to wall , you are more likely to get more intensity and a slightly rougher type of sex.
A feature film may have alot of intensity but it usually caters to a different crowd. I find that we could easily distinguish these things , often , just by the boxcovers.

I will admit that more details always help a review. I find that Selena Silver and "picman" have really amazing reviews. I like the fact that Selena notes all the fetishes.

I dig rough sex and try to mention what I think is rough sex in my reviews... however "a "performer" obviously being MADE TO DO something he or she DOESN'T want to do " will lose points with me FAST and I don't consider this rough sex - I consider this borderline rape.

o.k.. So don't call anything "rough sex". Just list (like some other reviewers do) the kinds of "acts" one will see in the "movie" in question. Just for clarification, I'm not asking you go into too much detail. For example don't mention if someone scratches their nose or something as unimportant as that. List things like: face slapping (M to F), mouth to face spitting (M to F)(vs mouth to mouth spitting), choking (M to F), bondage (ie. M tieing up F), use of force (M forcing F to do something), head dunking (ie. M dunking and holding under water F's head), don't know what to call it (ie. M taking something and using it so as to prevent the F from being able to speak or cry out), and clothes pin(s) application (ie. M takes a clothes pin and clamps it on her nipple or whatever) etc.. That way, if the "movie" isn't obviously a "rough sex" one like Brandon Iron's "I Like It Rough!" series, we who don't want to see the "acts" I mentioned above will know and therefore neither rent or buy that "movie" you reviewed. Asking you to just list the "acts" seen in a "movie" isn't asking much.

Denverdon,
So, like I said to MLyons, don't call anything "rough sex". Just list the "acts" depicted in the "movie" as part of your review. Other reviewers are responsible enough to do it. Why not you? Do you like it when people like me rent or buy a "movie" you recommended only to discover that there's something they don't like in it and therefore they've wasted their hard earned money?

What does one define as rough sex? What a reviewer might have regarded as rough sex 6 years ago is downright tame now and what a reviewer might have regarded as rough sex 4 years ago is the norm for every single gonzo scene today.

However, if you are looking for reviews that not so much review as merely list or chronicle the action there are options out there for you. And if you simply want more descriptive reviews, there are options out there for you too.

Yes the definition of "rough sex" changes over time in porn but slapping is slapping and choking is choking.

I think it would be good to mention these things in reviews.
If you like it you know it is in there and you will go and buy/rent the movie if you don't like it you know to stay away from it.

Okay. What you want, then, is not necessarily a full review. What you want is merely a list or chronicle of the action in the scene that makes a habit of pointing out any occasion of "choking" or "slapping."

There's only one guy I know of to go to for that-Dev at www.cavr.com. I seem to recall that some of the ADT reviews kind of list the themes or occurrences for each scene. And AdultDVDEmpire does it for any film they have a full scene index of.

On top of that, there are reviewers who generally do not seem to like "choking" or "slapping" in scenes and usually mention it when they see it. I am thinking specifically of Rog at rogreviews.com. There are probably others. I know in my reviews if I see a particularly egregious example of "choking" or "Slapping" I definitely mention it.

I agree that it's a problem. I certainly think choking a girl into unconscionceness would be considered 'rough' by anyone's standards, but check out this thread.

Thanks for the support. I agree with and identify with what you said in your second paragraph. If I wanted a "rough sex" "movie" I'd either buy one or rent one. But I don't, so I won't. Reviews are the only place to find out whether or not there's something I don't like in the "movie" I'm interested in. No, I'm not about to play blind man's bluff and rent "movies" based on reviews that don't mention "rough sex" (for lack of a better phrase). I could rent alot of "movies" that way before I found just one I liked and I'm not about to waste my hard earned money like that.

For the record, I DO mention things like this (slapping, choking, etc.) in my reviews. If you'd taken the time to read them instead of making assumptions based my response, you'd know that.

I don't have a problem with people wanting to see a list of acts performed in the reviews they read. Good for you. More power to you. I do have a problem with people coming to a free site and dictating to the reviewers (who take the time to do this as a service to other porn fans because they enjoy it) what they should and should not include in their reviews. It pisses me off.

I don't disagree with you, m_burlock. Pointing out content that I think others might not like is something I do, and something I feel like I should do, but don't call me or DD "irresponsible", when you haven't 1.) even bothered to read our reviews, or 2.) compensated us for the work we've put into them.

I don't like and don't want a plot in the "movies" I buy. I don't buy a movie for the plot, I buy it for the sex. I don't want to pay for plot when all I want is the sex. I know that "all sex" "movies" are more intense and that there's a risk of a slightly rougher type of sex. But some of them don't and that's what I search for. And I believe I can't find those ones without reading reviews done by people who are responsible enough to list "choking" etc.. Besides, if one likes to see "choking" etc. wouldn't you want to know it's there via a review that lists "choking" etc.? That way you could go and get that specific "movie" right away without having to waste your time and money on "movies" without "choking" etc. and masturbate till the lube or kleenex runs out (which ever cums first). Do you see my point?

MLyons reviews are excellent, very thorough, and a great read. I think the trick is in finding a reviewer who's tastes are similar to yours, but this isn't always easy. Den is a good suggestion.

I also consider it borderline rape. Along with "choking" etc., but only when I can't tell if she likes that type of stuff or not and that's very hard to tell I find (yes, you may find different I realize that).

And someone else likes to look at bare feet ; another hates the men wearing watches ; a third only scenes without condoms ; a fourth prefers stockings ... etc . Pretty soon every scene and disc takes a very long time to review . Or did you think that your interest was more important that everyone elses ?

There's over forty different categories and fetishes listed in the review search box. Maybe the time has come to list one more.

As far as choking goes, I think that's a pretty good idea, actually... :)

The only problem is that it kind of acknowledges choking as a fetish, more than it acts as a warning, and that kind of defeats the purpose. I mean, let's face it, m_burlock and those who are like-minded would want to avoid choking, not search for the reviews that mention it.

Hm. Once again, we're back to Den's cavr.com, which is really a great resource in this regard, and shouldn't be overlooked.

It is a fetish, albeit a dangerous one. Let's face it, it isn't the only risky one, so I don't see that as sufficient reason to banish it from the list.

Surely, Hardware, and that would certainly be alright with me. I'm just thinkin' that it wouldn't necessarily be a feature people would use to avoid the act, although I suppose it COULD be used that way in a kind of "cross check" capacity.

I think it's a good idea.

I remember a previous post some months ago of a reader stating that all reviewers should mention if the scene ended in a facial, or in a mouth-pop, that basically it was irresponsible for a reviewer not to say where the cum landed on every scene. Now it's about how rough it is. Next time, it's gonna be about what lingerie the girls are wearing (read my reviews !).
I also remember an angry fake ad in "Film Threat" magazine years ago that said "If you don't like movies, MAKE YOUR OWN !". That stuck in my head for some reason. If you don't like reviews, make your own. I mean it's endless. Praise the internet that now everything has to be instantly searchable. One question ? Google the answer in one second ! It's like a gonzo boxcover. "Anal Lolitas in Bell-Bottoms #3 : Double Dipping". You read the title, you've already seen the film. Next to each scene breakdown, we should say the duration, all the positions, the degree of roughness, the camera frame, the props, where the cum lands, so that everything will be more searchable. No. Sensibly, I do think that if you actually read the reviews instead of looking for the keywords, you will innately understand if the scene is degrading or not. Most reviewers can convey the feeling with their own words. I think it's brilliant that all ADT reviewers have their own style and don't submit to patterns. No CAVR review has ever helped me. And my hard-earned cash is the same as yours.

Right on, vodka. :)

I was actually asked a long while ago if I would start rating each individual scene in my reviews, and I refused to do it, largely for the reasons you're citing. If you want to know what I thought, read the review. Seeing a rating at the end of the scene might make you feel better, but it doesn't really express what my words did. If you want to read someone else's review instead, great!

All that said, of course, anyone who wants to put a rating at the end of the scene can. I think that's wonderful, and I read plenty of great reviewers here that do. I've said it a hundred times: it's the variety of styles, ideas, and opinions on ADT that make the body of reviews here so great.

Anyway, this has all been discussed again and again, but it is a bit of a hot point, especially for reviewers. They really do take a lot of time and expend a lot of effort to do what they do. We can't please everyone--although Astro comes damn close--and honestly, I'm not trying to.

m_burlock,

I would agree with most of the other people on this thread that it's not possible for every reviewer to anticipate what every individual viewer may or may not want to see, to the point that the reviewer would have to write a lengthy review just to cover everyone's likes and dislikes.

I'll say it again, if you've seen a movie that had something in it that totally surprised/shocked/disgusted y ou to the point that you couldn't enjoy watching the film - then write a short review of it. It will let others know about the content of the film, so they'll be better informed before spending their money to buy/rent it.

And do like I've done. When I've seen something that disgusted me, in a film that I didn't expect to be a shockfest, I wrote a review of it. I explained in detail why I was disgusted. And then I gave the film a bad rating.

In reference to the 'Cum Guzzlers' movie thread that dumblonde linked to above, it is interesting that 4 different reviewers didn't care to mention that the first scene contained a choking so severe that the actress passed out. Or has 'choking/passing out' gotton too commonplace, routine enough that no one should bother writing about it?

Beyond the list I want to know to what degree he/she liked the "movie". I.e., "it sucks", or "it's o.k.", or "it ROCKS!!". Does the person highly recommend this "movie" or not?

As I said earlier, no reviewer should go to the extreme in mentioning what "acts" and or things they saw in the "movie". I agree re. not being able to anticipate everyone's likes and dislikes.

Where would I post my reviews specificly? In relation to that. If anyone wants to critisize my reviews, go ahead.

I think what you said in your last sentence has come true. It is so commonplace that people don't think it's important to mention it. Does that mean I should expect to see "choking" etc. in every "scene" of every gonzo/wall-to-wall/all sex "movie"?

Here's the page you'd use to submit your review to ADT:

Write a review!

For future reference there's a link to this page in the "toolbar" on the left side of the screen, under the heading, "DVD Reviews".

I'm glad to hear your considering writing some. The more the merrier, I say.

Like I said, don't go to the extreme, I personally am not asking you to or demanding that you do.

Actually, I have said to myself "I wish I could make my own movies.". I'd LOVE to do it I REALLY "wood"!! BUT, since I'm not skilled at convincing ladies to do anything, let alone hardcore triple x "movies" and lack the funds to buy a good quality camcorder that produces excellent "picture" quality and lack the funds to pay the ladies for their "work" and lack the funds to pay a company to make VHS and DVD copies for me to sell I sadly (very sadly) CAN'T make my own "movies":((.

I've TRIED to get a sence of whether or not there's degradation via actually reading a review (really, I have) only to get "burned" later because the reviewer didn't list the "acts" seen in the "movie".

No I didn't think that my interest was more important than everyone elses. Obvious to me now, this is a sticky/sensitive subject. I DON'T think that you could or should try to please everyone. It's just that I want to avoid "movies" with what I define as being non-consenseual violence and consenseual violence. It's not merely a case of like or dislike it's a case of something I find HIGHLY offensive and to be a MAJOR turn-off. How do I avoid this without wasting time and money if I can't "see" it in reviews?
