| niterunner Member 84 Posts 6/05 | I know many adult stars get paid by the scenes, but thanks to the net, many have websites, so I think it is a little more lucrative then it was. Plus many feature dance. I remember on Entertainment Tonight, they interviewed a few of them and they said around 200,000-300,000. Am I in the ballpark? I am not looking for any direct #'s. Just a *generality* of most adult stars. Not trying to offend, anyone just curiousity. Excluding people like Jenna Jameson. Edited by - niterunner on Mar 17 2006 [Link] |

| DOYLE Member 143 Posts 2/06 | Also, I still believe the internet has not been nearly tapped in a qualiy way for porn. Yeah their is a shitload of porn of the net but it is very segmented, poorly uploaded, often only shitty little clips, half screen downloads. Don't get me wrong movie monster etc... do have good stuff at good price. I have heard average of 1k per scene, I don't know if that is accurate, if a girl does 100 scenes a year (that is a lot) go from there. -DOYLE |
| AztecGold11 Member 514 Posts 8/05 | Once in a BTS segment a director was helping the girl do her paperwork-he said "sign here", "1500 here" pointing to different spots on the form. I'm sure he was not aware of the camera at that given moment. If a girl gets 1500 per scene-does 10 sc per month-in 1 year she would gross $180,000. That's only 10 scenes per month, if she does more-do the math. Edited by - AztecGold11 on 3/17/2006 6:37:53 PM |

But how many scenes per week? Per month? (and are we talking about a 3-week month or a 4-week month?) Add in the extras, blah, blah, blah... Bottom line? (so to speak)...who knows? |
| niterunner Member 84 Posts 6/05 | I was surprised, because I thought websites, brought more revenue in for the stars. I thought that's where most of the money was made. When I reading Forbes and the article with Jenna, I found it confusing. I know she is "rich" but they made her sound a lot wealthier, then I think she is. I know she has mentioned on Howard Stern, before about her net worth, but can't remember exactly. I think she said about 5 million, but I really can't remember for sure, and could be totally wrong. After reading some these posts, I would venture to say that with strip clubs, websites, videos,-75,000-100,000, maybe be in the ballpark for an adult star who isn't a big name in the business. I do remember emailing Christi Lake about this awhile ago, and she was VERY nice, and said I wasn't too far off. Not trying to empty anyones bank account, but like the other poster said, there isn't a ton of information on the web about this. I don't know Jim South, but Nina Hartley did drop a good line, when dateline did an expose on Traci Lords, and Traci said that Jim South Provided her cocaine. Nina, said she didn't think that was possible. Jim's "too cheap" Edited by - niterunner on 3/19/2006 11:49:57 AM |
| Chico Wang Member 775 Posts 1/04 | You know how many girls I know that've been around for a couple of years or more that are still barely eking by. Many of them have been shot out or made so many bad decisions in their lives that now they're in a hopeless state. The problem with porn sometimes is alot of girls think the money trains will keep on rolling when the problem is most producers are looking for the newer, hotter, nastier girls once they've shot them. It especially becomes a problem in work ethic as well. You shoot five scenes a week at a sizeable chunk of change and plan your finances based on those five scenes. Suddenly there are weeks where you shoot four, three, two, one, none. Of course it's after you've spent all your money. Where do you go? Especially with no education, no work ethic and all you know is taking a big dick up your ass. It is a vicious cycle especially when you're young and naive. In this world, every girl is expendable. Sad but true but they're adults and they bring it upon themselves. Chico |
| niterunner Member 84 Posts 6/05 | I think it was a smart move, and I believe I read it in Forbes magazine, that Jenna said she has made several new films, but will release a few each year. Which is really a good move, because even though she has gotten older. Its still new material. |
| Monstar Senior Member http://twitter.com/MonstarPR 1154 Posts 4/04 | when i was 22 i wasn't raking in a couple of grand a week. but i was still able to live, maybe not be a rolla, but fuck it. I can see your point, but's kinda on them. working at the videostore back in the day, i didn't get a lot of scratch, but i paid my rent. back then it was maybe $350 a week? so don't buy the tiffany necklaces and $1500 little dog. save your cash.true.see chicks really need to read this and take it to heart. because yeah, this month you may be booked solid, and you can piss a lot of money away, but what happens next month, when the bookings drop?and you are right, it is about work ethic. It really is like pulling teeth to get some of these girls to help themselves. case in point, a girl has hired me to write some Press releases for her, no problem....but getting what i need from her, information, pictures, etc, is making it a fucking chore. that's why pretty much i have only been working with my "inner circle" because i know, they know, to take this shit seriously. werd. But that is the real trick. i have heard some many horror stories of chix getting burned by webmasters, what they charge, etc...and it blows my mind.conversely, some girls show little to no interest on getting on the ball and getting their hands dirty when it come to their websites. a friend of mine, pretty popular porn chick, is so slacking on her website it's ridiculous. I think she may have a domain name and a V.O.D. affiliate, and was all happy when getting a $60 check. I was like "are you kidding me???" but whatever.

| DOYLE Member 143 Posts 2/06 | All the crazy shit girls do now is a consequence of the bizaro artistic vision certain directors have. So its mor then hypocritical to criticize a girl "for taking big dig up her asss" when the kind of brutal sex acts are somthing you promte, i.e. your defense of the utter garbage that is meatholes. These girls are people daughter's, sister's etc... I just feel your post was very insensetive and honestly man you are in a position to help out some of these girls out by giving them good advice and not rushing them into things they reallly don't want to do. Call me a bleading heart whatever, I do love sex and watching it but I don't think that needs to involve destroying the chicks. Also I realize what some random dude says in a post probably means shit to you and that's cool I understand. I am just saying these girls deserve to be treated like humans, not a piece of meat and the thing is most guys I know like porn that actually treats the girls with some class. So I really believe porn with one guy and one girls with a cute girl sucking and fucking can and will sell. The circus shit is just short sided. not that group shit can't be hot too. -D |
| niterunner Member 84 Posts 6/05 | What many people don't understand is what some of these people have been through. Probably some really horrific shit. And the media is the worst. Although, Jenna Jameson is a household name, she doesn't get tons of mainstream press, but Paris Hilton does. Jenna Jameson built her empire on her own, Paris just has "old money" I don't find anything intriquing abut Paris, but I do with Jenna. Paris can't put 2 words together, Jenna is extremley articulate. I was reading a book about people who are ruining America with sex or some kind of crap, and the author talks about Jenna Jameson, because people want to have there pictures taken with Jenna. Yet, Paris was never mentioned once in this book. The author also doesn't like Howard Stern That's why Tyra Banks, pisses me off when she had Tyra Banxxx on who now goes by other name. I could see a girl on there who looked, somewhat "fragile" and "scared" and Tyra says "I WANTY MY NAME BACK" F-you Tyra. The only thing you said to the girl was, come back here and you can do some makeup. The reason I have a ton of respect for Howard Stern is because, he let's adult stars, get exposure. Sure, he teases and makes fun, but if you really think about it, he plugs there websites, has them on time after time, where we actually know who they are. And he has them on for more then 5 minutes. He also creates interest in the industry, which is always good. I would have no idea who Tabitha Stevens would be without Howard Stern. You look at other media outlets and you have a bunch of phonies, interviewing them, and they don't get the exposure they really need. What is sad, is that being an adult star is not all that lucrative for most. Just the people around it. |
| jamesnadt Deactivated User cambridge, ma 152 Posts 2/06 | name me 10 women who've made over six figures outside of porn after doing it, 10 who've gone to wharton, kellogg, sloan, wherever after getting a degree. you can name more who have been in jail. more who end up on public-assistance after a ghostwritten interview saying "i'm almost ready to graduate from UCLA!". is ucla the bermuda triangle of a simple class-directory? as far as i know, hardcoregossipguy, chico wang and padova are about the only people who didn't just go to continuing ed there. sure, there's jenna and nina financially supporting their spouses, but aside from that, you've essentialy shot yourself in the neck for most traditional career-paths that peak in earnings 20 years after you last were a viable source of flesh for a camera by shooting a few scenes. if you're not stupid, you can fire anyone you want to in the united states---done professionally, the background check that got you fired doesn't exist. no fsc, subp's no protest, just clean. if you're committed to not hook and have a brain, you're probably going to make more over the course of a life of 80-years never having fucked on film. there's a glass-ceiling in most people's lives, why impose one on yourself at 19 that's several feet lower than need be? |
| DOYLE Member 143 Posts 2/06 | But I totally agree Jenna Jameson is a really smart girl. I read her interviews and she says the same as me. Overexposure, saturation of extreme XXX, abusive treatment by male talent etc... has changed porn for the worse. Not that their are not good things going on. Sorry to be too heavy. -D |
| croy Platinum Member Discovry 4574 Posts 3/04 | So you just come off as some kid who can't handle neutral information you don't like. Whatever the reasons may be for getting into porn and why they spend their money as they do, porn stars need to remember that the buisness will not always take care of them. I mean, people can tell you happy lies, but then you would say "Shit, some of these women have fucked up backgrounds and now you are just trying to cover that up." |

But she was intelligent, had a plan, and went to college. A lot of people don't have the first two qualities. |

| Lazerus Member 187 Posts 9/03 | Also consider that in 1986, the average girl made 750-1000 for straight boy/girl--no anal, no facials, no DP, etc. Now adjust for inflation, and consider the current gonzo rates twenty years later. Today, talent is paid less to do more while having a career half as long. There is a lot of money in adult entertainment, but working as talent doesn't seem much different to me than working as a waitress, secretary, or as a clerk in a video store. As in any industry, the people who make the real money are the people you never see. Talent in porn, like in any other service job, sit at the bottom of the food chain. |
| DOYLE Member 143 Posts 2/06 | The money these girls make in porn actually is way more then they could make in probably any other job. My point is they are still underpaid compared to other entertainers, but that is because market is so flooded etc... I am not castigating anyone for making or being porn, my point is these girls are all people and deserve respect. And that one can make good porn without brutality.

| Chico Wang Member 775 Posts 1/04 | I just call it as I see it and damn I have alot of experience with these girls. Jasmine Tame just left my house this morning and she's a rarity; she has a tremendous business acumen and genuinely loves what she does. But for every Jasmine, there are a 100 stupid ones who spend 15K for every 12K they make monthly. And if people really think these girls make a crapload off their websites, you guys have something coming. Most of them don't have one or the money made is a pinprick compared to what they make on just one scene. Chico

| DOYLE Member 143 Posts 2/06 | It baffles me. The internet is such an amazing medium and it is beyond why most girls websites are pieces of shit. And Chico Diabolic's website could use some improvement, not trying to be a dick but I am just calling as I see it in words. Take it easy man and things for the post. If anyone wants a better website and technical help give me a shout I can put you in contact with a very profesional webmaster who would love to design a site with some XXX. -D |

| generizer Gen Padova 123 Posts 8/04 | --- Everyone including adult preformers have endured some form of traumatic experience in their life whether it be recent or long past, gone and done. Each individual handles traumatic experiences differently by supressing, post traumatic stress, acts of revenge, violent behavior and I'm sure the list can go on and on forever. But what I'm saying is; any form of negative experience we live through in our lives may affect our decision making and desires in the process of living forward. Including how we live our social lives, interact with family, business/corporate world, even romantic-like relationships. It doesn't just effect the choices made in porn and the mistakes that have been made and why. Those experiences could be taken negative or positive. Some may even learn from those impacting endeavors. I wouldn't say that every single performer is in this industry because they were abused somehow or another. Every person has their story but many choose to not open up enough and confess their underlying reasoning. Some may not even know their reason because they choose to avoid it or simply haven't approached a point in life where they question themselves "WHY AM I REALLY DOING THIS? AND WHY NOT SOMETHING ELSE? HOW WOULD IT BE DIFF. IF I DIDN"T DO THIS? AM I HAPPY? WHAT AM I GONNA DO LATER DOWN THE ROAD? WHATS THE BEST WAY TO MANAGE MY MONEY, Etc." We all do our own form of self-searching at different times of our lives. It's not like we reach the age 25, suddenly realizing what is truly best for ourself. My childhood friend, David and I shared very similar interest and goals, such as fundamental sciences in grade school, struggle to not get picked on for trying or be outspoken, wanting to go to college where we both wanted to attend the same university. While making an attempt to get a so-called education, I was tossed between the Arts (not performing) and the biological world, both that have always caught my interest. David himself started out with goals of Biomechanical Engineering studies, hated that, got into computers, couldn't tolerate that, learned to enjoy studying English Literature and then later finished five and half years later with a double in English Lit and Chinese. Only to transfer immediately after to NYU to get his masters degree and still to this day he struggles with a decent paying job, isn't sure what he wants to do. Is somewhat unhappy because he can't figure it all out. Even a college educated man can become unhappy with their choices and struggle with their options to fall back on. Currently he wouldn't find it worth working somewhere thats' going to make him miserable, become a victim of stress and be slave driven by pennies and unhappiness. Instead rather as a "side boy" working at the administration office of the universities campus. I understand some people have the drive to live life working amongst an atmosphere they dont solely care for but we all are so entirely different in how we handle situations. Also,I know that a lot of the girls in the industry tend to blow their money very easily living paycheck by paycheck because I've seen it done (Lain who rented a room from me; only paid when she could)but there still is that small percentage of people out there who do happen to use whatever smarts they have in them to manage their money decently. I firmly believe that we all make some kind of major mistake in our early adulthood, hit rock bottom to then somehow eventually get back on our feet. Porn just happens to be one of some peoples way of hitting rock bottom, we've seen it happen time and time again before our eyes. The only difference is the rest of those who aren't in porn, their mistaks aren't put out for the world to see so you wouldn't know if your next door neighbor's daughter hit rock bottom and that gives you no chance to criticize them. In my opinion, if it even matters... I see nothing wrong with doing porn so long as you're doing so in a healthy state of mind. When things are no longer exciting and become tedious then a brake is more than necessary (not necessary to say you retired and then come back later looking like an idiot), try it again and if its not doing it for you anymore, seek another avenue, meanwhile making a personal promise to save a percentage of all your checks in case any emergency or lack of employment occurs. It's really not that difficult, it just requires having a little self respect and desire to take oneself into proper care/consideration. I'd imagine its hard to get an average of what a performer makes because while so many companies pay within a certain rate for each act, there are companies who pay less and girls take the gig, some gigs pay tons more. Never does a typical girl in the biz have steady work all the time. Its unpredictable its so rediculous. Which I think is why its always best to work just a few times a week at the most from the very start because not only will your work not run out so fast but if you do your job well by setting a good reputation for yourself, building decent relationships with the business people of it all, then there will always be a job offer out there for you that week somewhere. Of course that will run dry but at least it lasts a hell of a lot longer than just a year or two. Okay, I'm done typing. I've typed way too much that I doubt most would want to even read this. Sorry guys. Enjoy for whatever its worth. - Gen www.genpadova.com

Yet most importantly they need to make effort in helping themselves in the process in order for a positive outcome. This is really an on-going topic that will never be solved, that's the sad part so basically the only thing people can do is just try to at least make the best choices they can for themselves at the time and try not to self-destruct. :) |

I think part of the problem if that some adult stars, don't make them self somewhat vulnerable, when maybe they should. I think sometimes, it gives the message, they live "great" lives. It doesn't mean they don't lead "good" lives, but I would venture to say many have it "tough". And I am not talking about getting screwed, over website money.
And you are right, now all adult stars have had tragic situations, but many do. I think the public may not be so harsh on performers, if they knew what some of them have been through, people may be a little more sensitive to them.

| Chico Wang Member 775 Posts 1/04 | There were alot of other issues involved, some involving deceit from the other side of the table and people trying to lowball rates with 50% chances of bounced checks, etc. Frankly I don't want to get involved in that sort of namecalling horseshit. Jasmine is the same girl that signed for your beloved company in Vegas and she hung out at my house too. Same person with a heart of gold. Tawnee Stone and Melissa Midwest who are 'internet models' make $75,000 to $100,000 a year. Melissa Midwest does all her html and site programming herself. I think that an average girl can pull in $100k the first year doing scenes, dancing, and doing privates without trying very hard. Its doing the privates that really brings in the big bucks. After the first year, it can be downhill from there, unless a girl knows how to play her cards right. |

Yeah sure, and then one year later you can bet that she still won't have a website up or else the one she has up is one of those cookie-cutter bullshit "porn star" sites that look like the ones that came out in 1999. Girls in porn just tend to make very bad business decisions. You could have a group of legit web entrepreneurs in a room and put one degenerate loser scumbag in the mix and tell the porn chick to select a guy who will help her with her website and I promise you that she will weed out that one loser and do biz with him.

Another avenue is setting up an ebay account. Doing ebay is not hard. And the cost is like nothing. Just time, and it doesn't take much. Christy Canyon, Kire Kener and Jenna Jameson have ebay account going, as well as others, it seems lucrative. I remember Jenna putting a limited run of signed polaroids, probably 10 or so, awhile back. They went for about $100 each. That is some quick CASH! Edited by - niterunner on 3/24/2006 4:30:51 PM |
