I would like to hear some of your experiences ordering from moviesbymail.com. I am the owner and I'm always interested in what people think and would like general thoughts on how to make us better!
We pride our selves on great service, large selection and by far the lowest prices anywhere, how would you grade out performance.
Hmm, I have never ordered from your site, but the reasons why might be of help. 1st, no real time stock. I have no idea if the dvd I want will be shipped within 1 day or 2 weeks from now (this goes for Laser's Edge too). I want to know that the dvd that I buy is sitting there for me when I want it. Failing that, a CLEARLY STATED policy of order vs ship time is a must. 2nd, very limited stock, for depth of product see ADE or 5-Star (ys I know they actualy don't have everything they list, but they can usually get it). 3rd, bad info on video listing. If the info for the vid is just boxcover info, then just show a big pic of the boxcover. From what I see of your site, I would only order from your's if it was either the only vender for a dvd or had a price to good to pass up. I have no doubt that once ordered, you would do a great job of handling the order, but there is nothing there to tempt me to order. Karl

I'm not sure where you were looking but all our movies clear state whether or not they are in stock if you look at the product page of each item, example: http://moviesbymail.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/28570
In regards to shipping, our shipping is clearly stated on the shipping info page on the site, that should give you all the info you need, once you have completed the checkout process you are told that your order will ship in 24 hours, we carry all movies in house, we don't back order like other site, we carry a live database and what you see on the site is what's in stock.
In regards to the selection, i would challenge any site our there to have the assortment of movies we do, our warehouse currently stocks over 50,000 movies. We recently started selling the high end new releases and we are increasing our selection on a weekly basis.
If we turned everything on in our database like the sites you mentioned it would be to Hugh to browse, some site do that but i feel that's misleading the customer.

re: Real Time stock; Was going by ADT's stock check, on closer inspection, your video info page DOES include stock status. My Mistake! Example of Depth of stock: Performer Mika Tan. ADT lists 55 titles for her, your site 10, and only 5 of them are DVD's. Anyway, may experiment with your store someday.
Thanks, I will have Steph change that, you really cant go by that, we have some performers with hundreds of titles, we get stuff in everyday, we are currently in the process of adding a toy store, so look for that soon, i do hope you give us a try and let people know how we did.
I do have to come clean on one thing, you had a point when you said where does it say how fast it is shipped, our mistake was we had it placed at the end of the checkout letting people know, after your comments i placed it on the header of the site to let all the people know, thanks for taking the time, if you like email me and i will get you a free movie for your effort.
I was checking out your page and in the "shipping" section I found out you accept paypal for international orders and you take out the DVD's out of their boxes and ship them in thin envelopes, to pass the customs. Which helps me very much, because I live in Germany (strict customs) and I have no credit card (so paypal) - it looks like I finally found some US based shop where I can order... But there's a big problem!
I can't find ANY DVD in your shop! When I do a search, when I click on one of the special offers, no matter what - I always get "Produkt nicht gefunden!" - which is "Product not found" in english. I guess that's a problem with the automatic language detection of your site - because if all people had that problem they would have already posted that in here 4 sure. So, please check that, if there's an error in the shop system when you're browsing it with german language setting. Or is there maybe a way to skip the language detection, so I can browse the shop in english language?
I have some bad news my friend, PayPal turned us off a month ago because of their new policy. I'm sorry but that's no longer an option on our site. In regards to the language issue, i will have the programmer look into it, but this is the first i have ever heard of this problem, i assure you it will be resolved.
A few days ago I came across the site, with some great prices on VCA classics on dvd (The Tease, Hate to See You Go), but checking for other VCA classics, you either don't have them (The Opening of Misty Beethoven, etc.) or they are on available from you on vhs only (New Wave Hookers, Barbara Broadcast, Outlaw Ladies, etc.).
I phoned your store to ask if you were expecting other VCA classics to be in on dvd, but the info I got was "what you see is what you get," "we don't know," and "we just got those [VCA] in and we may not keep carrying them."
Because of the initial shipping and the coupon available, I could make a better deal if I just wait and see if more come in... ----------------------------------------------------------
Not sure who you spoke too, maybe they didn't understand the question. We carry the full line from VCA and sometimes we are out of stock on some items, but most of the time its the studio who is out of stock. If you check back with the site from time to time you will see that we add product daily.
The way we keep our prices down is by ordering in volume, and sometimes it takes 2-4 weeks to get items back in stock.

The shop problem - well, I changed my language preference in Internet Explorer to english (us) and it works - so it really is a problem with the language settings.
Now back to payment - I saw a site of a payment company, which also deals with shops from the adult entertainment industry and they accept paypal. So it's some third party thing, Paypal has the contract with them and not with the shop itself. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the company, but perhaps you do and this might be an option for non-credit-card customers.
Another question that's on my mind: A lot of adult sites now use 2000Charge.com or Verotel now for billing - because they support "Direct Debit" for european customers without CC. Is it possible to use those payment companies for a shop, aswell? I mean, if you say we stick to credit cards, we just have such a few international customers without a credit card, I can understand that. But it would be cool if some US shops would think about that, cause the shops in Europe offering US adult DVD's are WAY too expensive!

I would order from moviesbymail.com if they ship movies in factory sealed cases (to facilitate returns). Your present practice of shipping movies without cases works well for countries that do not allow porno movies but I am in Canada where porno movies is available.
Secondly, your shipping page is vague in the type of shipping available and costs. I need courier options (Fedex, UPS) to Canada and the shipping page does not indicate what exact shipping agent will be used.
Our standard shipping is USPS Priority Mail 2-4 days anywhere in the U.S.
For international orders we use USPS Air Mail 4-10 days.
Wholesale packs ship Priority Mail 2-4 days and free movies ship First Class Mail 2-4 days. We do offer express mail during the check out process online.
This is the only method of shipping we have for international orders.
In regards to Canada, we have had many packages returned or seized by customs for various reasons, even if they say it's legal, it's not legal on all items, most of the time items do get thru without any problems, but at times they do reject items, by doing it this way have almost eliminated the problem, I apologize if this doesn't work for you, but not getting your movies would make you even more upset. It's more work for us to do this, believe me if we didn't have to it would make our lives easier.

When searching by studio or pornstar the DVDs and VHSs are all mixed in together whish is a little odd . Maybe you could add a function to separate them ? There are a lack of titles in some key studios ( for me ) , for example Evil Angel and Wicked . This may be sorted in time but for now this would stop me from ordering . Lastly ( and this is purely aesthetic ) but is it necessary to have your featured offers at the bottom of the screen even after a search ? It slows the page from loading and makes the new information more difficult to read . After all who wants to read words when there is a pretty picture of a pornstar underneath . Making the 'Movies By Mail ' banner at the top clickable to go back to the home page would be a nice addition as well . My tupence ....

We Just got Wicked in, the whole line, and as always it will be the lowest prices available. We get new studios every week.

It just a good way to cross promote other items, our site should load faster then most, this is something we worry about more than most sites, as you can see we keep the graphics down to a minimum.

I took a second look at the shipping page and found the rates for Canada/International. I missed it the first time as the info were placed under "Domestic Customers".
But it does not gives the cost, would you be able to give me an idea on how much it would costs to ship to Canada thru USPS?
I found out that Canadian Customs do not allow porn movies through the mail. See Postal Program. Since you use USPS, this would go through Canada Post and is subject to this rule by Canadian Customs. I've ordered movies from other stores in the US using the Fedex/UPS without any problems.
If the envelope is packed in such a way that looks like any other document envelope (which will not attract any unwanted attention), I may still want to try buying if the shipping costs is reasonable.

Oh, I missed that again. I don't know why I keep missing things at your site.I used courier shipping and it costs $20 first item and $2 each additional item. Another store charges $24.95 flat for Fedex. I know they are over priced, I guess this is where they make up for their low prices (compared with other stores).
You would be better off buying from us, if you need the covers and art work, just put in the comment section of the order form that's what you want and I'm sure we can accommodate you.
Paying those kinds of prices is crazy and i bet you we are cheaper on the movies to boot!
I found another alternative to paypal - they do exactly the same! They provide free accounts, and you can upload money from any credit card AND/OR bank account. The only thing that is not free is sending money, but that is 1% of the money you want to send - but max. 50 Euro Cent. Oh, and they clearly accept companies from the adult industry, they even provide a shop directory, that also contains adult shops.

To echo what Lindi said and to expand on it, you should add more classic titles to your inventory. Not just VCA, but other classic companies like VCX, Video-X-Pix, I-Candy, Standard Digital, etc.
We are working on it, currently we expanded our inventory by 10,000 movies, we current stock over 50,000 movies and we expect to double that within the next 6 months. Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated.
I have a very simple suggestion for improving your site. That is, change your page titles so that they contain the name of your site. I just went to bookmark the default page (the one after the disclaimer), and the name of your site was nowhere to be found in the bookmark title. I had to enter it in manually.
OK , I've now ordered from MBM , those Wicked/Dorcels at $16.90 a piece were too tempting to resist . The service is generally very fine . No complaints on the speed of delivery or the ease of ordering . The discs that arrived were the ones which I'd ordered , so nothing wrong there either . The only problem/area for improvement that I can see comes in your method of delivery for international customers . I asked for the artwork to be delivered as well so that may have altered the choice of packaging . Having said that though , Fivestar and AdultDVDToday both send orders ( discs and artwork ) in a thin cardboard envelope . The service is called Global Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope - United States Postal Service .
This would make the packaging less bulky and hence less intriguing to the eyes of UK Customs officers . Unfortunately my package from you was opened , the first time that this has happened to me . Looking as suspicious as it does it's small wonder . The other advantage would be one of cost , $5 from AdultDVDToday . Now maybe you see the shipping cost as an area to make some profit on an order , and if so I don't begrudge you that . The overall cost was still very reasonable , especially bearing in mind the current exchange rate .

i wanted to give an update to this thread as well as a heads up to anyone curious about moviesbymail.com.
i have been a member of adt for a long time, but for some reason, i have never heard anyone speak of moviesbymail.com. i saw their logo in a price match search and gave them a chance.
i ordered three dvds on tuesday and received them thursday. everything was received in perfect order.
in addition, they have a real time stock status, so if it says it is in stock, they have it in stock. this is a necessity for me when choosing a company and i'm sure is a requirement for many other potential customers.
I have ordered from MBM on many occasions - in fact I probably use this online store more than any other. The store seems to suit my needs as most of my purchases tend to be non-new release titles. I find MBM's pricing very reasonable for this kind of product and their shipping (international) is fast and efficient. The only time I even considered there being a problem I was actually reading an email reply from someone at MBM offering me a full refund or a replacement item being sent when at that exact moment the DVDs I had been expecting dropped onto my doormat.
I was first drawn into MBM by their 10% off offer for repeat customers. Even though this doesn't seem to exist any more I can still heartily reccomend the store.
OK, here is a classic example. I search for Shyla Stylez, and you have about 30 vids - but zero of the good stuff (Assworship 2, Un Natural Sex 7 etc.) I'm not interested in the $11.99 junk, so I go to Excalibur, and they have every freaking movie she ever made! Yeah, it might a few days extra to get them, but so what. This happens frequently when I search MBM.

I've ordered from moviesbymail.com many times and have always had good experiences. You guys have the absolute lowest prices. I usually receive my order in 2-3 business days. I do tend to agree that the selection is not as extensive as some other sites. For my shopping purposes, I usually check moviesbymail first to see if you have the title I'm looking for. If not, then I resort to other sites, where I can usually find it (but at a higher cost). Another plus about your site is that the webpage loads quickly (faster than other ones with more graphics on each page).
The only suggestions I would offer are maybe better image quality for the box covers. The images tend to be grainy, blurry, not as sharp as on other sites. Also, it would be nice if you offered other cheap shipping options for domestic customers other than U.S. Postal service, such as FedEx Ground or UPS. Though they've never lost an order yet, I'm wary of USPS and would like to be able to track my order with FedEx or UPS. I know you offer the express mail option but that is a bit expensive. So adding some cheap private carriers would be nice. Thanks!
hi shakfah. I am going to order from MBM sometime soon because I like the option of paying by money order or check. I can't really use my credit cards online, so this is quite helpful although I understand the order will take longer.
Also, I live in Ohio, so hopefully shipping will be quick. I don't like to take the 8% ! tax hit, however.
Anyway, I will probably place an order tonight and report back on how everything went...
The low prices are tempting and the selection seems to be better than where i used to order from (alldelight.com), although the 8% tax combined with $4.95 shipping might cancel out any savings.
The reason you see so much of this is, we are probably the only site on the net that carries a live database of movies, we only display in stock items, where other sites use a back ordering system, so when you buy that movie they order it and then send it to you, we are not set up this way, but we are looking into doing something about this, im sure our competitors wont like that, but we hope are customers will, we don't want to people to have to wait a week or two to get a movie, some people like you don't mind waiting the majority does.
First thank you for the kind comments, the reason we use the post office is purely for cost to give our customers a better price and to keep our overhead down, with other services like the above mentioned we have to pay for boxes and other material, with USPS it is supplied to us.
That's how we are able to keep our prices so low. I hope you understand. In regards to the images, that's a very subjective thing, with all the stuff going on with the government you might not even get to see boxes anymore, so hold on and lets wee what happens, i do agree some need some work.
In regards to the stock, we carry a live database and get movies in everyday, if you check at one time of the day and maybe not find it and come back that same day it could be in or even that week, but we don't like to display product we don't have like other sites do, so what you see at that time is what we have, just remember we sell thousands of movies a day and we get in thousands a day, it rotates pretty quickly.
OK, I just made my first order from moviesbymail.com.
I ordered "Just Another Whore" from Platinum X and "O Ring Blowout" from RLD, both Tim Von Swine titles, for a total of $43.03.
Let's just say I am not happy at all. First, the things I enjoyed about ordering from the site:
It's an Ohio company. I like to support local enterprises, even if I have to pay sales tax to do so.
On a related note, it only took 1 day for the package to travel from Cleveland to Cincinnati. I certainly can't beat that for quickness.
I like the site and the layout. MBM has a much bigger selection than my previous favorite site, alldelight.com
I -love- the fact that you can pay with a check or money order. I am unwilling to use my credit cards online.
HOWEVER
The discs I received today were NOT SEALED. I don't recall ever reading on the site that you ship used product. This is not a life-or-death issue for me, but I know some people collect SEALED DVD's and if they got these two, they would be mighty pissed off that the discs were opened.
Not only were they NOT SEALED, but they are ALL SCRATCHED UP and one even has a huge CRUSTY FINGERPRINT on the playing surface of the disc.
What is up with this?
I am very unsatisfied. If I knew I would be getting used products, I would not have ordered from your site. I can buy all the used porn DVD's I want around here locally for $19.95. That would have actually been less than your movies cost each, after tax and shipping.
I will not be ordering from your site again, probably. I assumed I would be receiving new product.

Oh man, to even think about what that crusty fingerprint is made up off is a big time turn off. I wonder what kind of stories the online rental houses have to tell about semen soaked discs.

I want to address the issue of the movies, WE DO NOT SELL USED MOVIES EVER!
The problem is this, during production and delivery to us many times the movies are out of place and rattle around in the case, before shipping to our customers, we try very hard to secure the movie in place before shipping, for the simple reason of movies getting scratched and become unplayable.
That why it was open and had finger prints on the disc, i can assure you, the movies you purchase from us are 100% brand new and factory direct.
I know many places don't go the extra mile for their customers but we do, if a customer has the same question we try to explain, believe it or not allot of people think we are lying to them. But, we continue to do so because at least you will get a movie that plays versus us shipping a movie not in place and gets even more scratched up.
I tried moviesbymail this summer for a small number of Ray Victory VHS titles, and I must say I was very satisfied with their services. From memory, all 3 orders shipped on the day of the order and took 7/10 days to get to France. All "in-stock" titles were indeed in stock. Shipping fees are good. Boxcovers were included. I'll work with them again.
Thanks for the explanation shakfah. It was just disorienting opening the package yesterday and seeing open discs; not used to that when ordering online. I'll take your word for it that everything you sell is 100% new factory direct stuff.
There were many positives about moviesbymail.com and now that I know the story, I'll be much more likely to order from you again in the future.
One more question: you require a copy of my driver's license to be sent along with the check or money order. It's a major inconvenience to have to remember to do this, copy it at work the day before, and send it in. Is one time enough? You have established that I'm of legal age. Hopefully you have a file or something so I won't have to do this every time.
