The majority of the booths at the ECVS are bought by major distributors. They subsequently contract with the manufacturers of the movies that they distribute to have performers (and some directors) sign at their booth.

What ends up happening is that the same girl will sign pictures at 3 or 4 different booths throughout the length of the show.

The "purpose" of this show, from the distributors point of view, is to find new retailers as customers. Unlike some of the other conventions, selling is allowed to take place on the show floor. So the distributors are taking orders or even selling movies one at a time at the show.

I'm sure that the signing can be a drag for many of the people who are doing it. But there are others who enjoy the attention they get at the conventions.

Don't forget, the conventions are usually held at pretty cool locations (Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Barcelona, etc...). The people signing are also getting a paid vacation at those locations (which doesn't suck).

If you take a look in the "Star Crossed" forum, you will see a thread about Barcelona, where Tricia Devereraux is pretty stoked about being able to go to an upcoming convention there.

A non-contract girl will almost always get paid for an appearance, unless she is able to sell her own merchandise at the appearance, or is very willing to try to promote herself.

Donnie - Kelly is gorgeous, but even for a gorgeous girl, $800 is very good for a signing day, unless it's for being there for the entire day from open to close.
Average pay tends to be about $400 - $500 plus hotel costs. Paid airfare/travel or not depends on the company and girl, usually.

nietzsche - I think that if a girl was doing signings about 200 days out of the year, that would start getting tiring, but doing 4 - 20 a year can be a lot of fun. Many girls consider adoring fans one of the pluses of being in the business.
Sure, there are the ones that don't like to go to conventions, but there's more than enough that do.

Much more likely would be a something along the lines of an appearance on something like ksex radio or an interview for a website.
