HeyNow  Oblivious  Gold Star Hey! 5965 Posts 1/03 |  Posted - Dec 8 2007 : 11:44AMAh, the old one, after many many....god so many porn discs, looks like it has finally crapped out. It's not giving good video output - it's putting up a side by side video image in B&W. This is from the S-Video and no video from the regular video cable (I checked.) What do I get? A Target $30 special? What about HD upcoversion? Is it anything? Looks like there are plenty of those from $40 to $80. Is everything "progressive scan" - is THAT anything? Oh, yea, I just have a standard TV - I know the upconvert thing is for HD. But hell, that could be a matter of months when I go for that. Edited by - heynow on Dec 8 2007  [Link] |

It will play both NTSC and PAL discs and can be modified to be region free via the remote control. This player will allow you to play European discs on a standard NTSC TV.  [Link] |

Make sure that tray is empty and no DVD is in 2. Turn the unit off and the on again 3. Open the tray 4. On the remote, hit 9879 and the region code. For any-region support hit 0. 5. Very important - hit OK on the remote. Note: I have not tried this; do it at your own risk. The site where I found the directions has other stuff that is not appropriate for ADT, so I will not provide the URL. My understanding is that you don't need to have a PAL TV to watch PAL movies, just a DVD player that can handle both formats. I think most of them do these days. [Link] |

If it's set to NTSC, all discs, regardless of whether they are PAL or NTSC discs, will be outputted in NTSC. Conversely, if this option is set to PAL, the output of the player, regardless of the disc format, will be PAL. If it's set to multi, then the output of the player will be dictated by the format of the disc. Here is the pdf of the owner's manual of this player. BTW, this player will do progressive scan, but it won't do 1080i upconversion. To do that, you'd need to go up to the DVP3960, which Amazon is selling for $45. This player can be converted to region free using the instructions below: Press "Setup" Scroll to "Preference" using the Left/Right arrow key Press "138931" and a popup screen will appear Use the Up arrow key and select 0 for a region free DVD player Done.
