VCA has a trailer for it on their website, but I doubt it will help you. It's very short on visuals.

VCA Prepares Neu Wave Hookers
By David Woodman

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - VCA Pictures and director Eon McKai are gearing up for the release of its $100,000 re-visioning of Neu Wave Hookers on January 17.

“This video is not a re-make of the popular 1985 VCA classic New Wave Hookers, but an update for a whole new generation,” said 26-year-old, alt-porn director, Eon McKai.

It was McKai himself that initiated this project with executives from VCA.

“I’ve been secretly planning this moment from the day I started speaking with VCA Pictures,” McKai told AVN.com.

“I always thought this classic video could use some 'new' energy. I saw the potential to make something that not only lives up to its arty title, but also totally represents my generation…
the new wave of porn makers and takers.”

Gregory Dark directed the original New Wave Hookers, which starred Ginger Lynn and originally featured one of Traci Lords’ hottest performances before the whole underage scandal broke.

Dark went on to a successful directing career that included pop videos for the likes of Britney Spears.

“The original New Wave Hookers made a fortune for VCA Pictures and it is still selling,” said Peter Reynolds, vice president sales/marketing for VCA Pictures.

The new cast includes Joanna Angel, Riley Mason, Nyomi Zen, Sierra Sinn, Justine Joli, Felix Vicious, Tiger and Dana DeArmond, who plays original New Wave bombshell Lords.

Suicide Girl Cricket and VCA's Veronica Hart appear in non-sex, supporting roles.

The video includes Joanna Angel’s first boy/girl scene.

Neu Wave Hookers is about a group of girls who accidentally stumble upon a 25-year-old VHS copy of the original New Wave Hookers at a garage sale.

The awestruck girls get turned on enough to investigate the past. Fascinated with the film’s taboo star, Lords, the girls break in and snoop around VCA headquarters, when they uncover the infamous “Dark Report #2 (an ancient press release where Greg Dark brags about “discovering” Traci at a car wash).

DeArmond plays the notorious bombshell, giving what Reynolds calls "perhaps the most provocative blowjob in DVD history."

New Wave Hookers comes in a three-DVD set. One DVD is Neu Wave Hookers. There is a second bonus DVD and a third DVD has the original 1985 video.

“There is nothing like Neu Wave Hookers out there," McKai said. "No one has ever worked with a company’s own history in a porn video. It was so much fun to dig through the archives of such an old company and then make an adult video about it. Don’t worry, just because its history, don’t even think we’re starting to take ourselves too seriously."

“This is going to be a great one,” Reynolds added. “I just watched the first edit and I couldn’t be happier with the entire project.”

Mason and Angel will be signing at the VCA Pictures’ booth at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas next month.

VCA is planning a huge post-AVN Awards party at the Beauty Bar in downtown Las Vegas to promote Neu Wave Hookers.

I've been wondering about this ever since I read that press release when it first popped up at AVN.com:

Who the hell is Dana DeArmond? Well, VCA has a a new trailer up highlighting the DeArmond blowjob from the film and her blonde wig makes her look more like Savannah than Lords. Anyway, she is pretty funny as Lords, lampooning many an 80s porn star (not just Lords) with her mannerisms and constant licking of the lips. However, is this the beginning of something for Dana or is it just a one-time thing and she'll go back to her website, g/g only work, and general involvement isolated to the periphery of the biz afterward?

It would be (without stating the obvious question as to how "original" it is).
I'd love to see the original again :)

Dana is staying in the biz. She shot Joanna's Angels 2 in December. She carefully selects her projects. Dana is also a fetish model. I think she is quite interesting and not the typical 'porn chick'.

I think it's gonna be awesome. Eon McKai's stuff is always cool.
I really like his alternative style and the girls he hooks up.

I haven't been all that much into alt-porn, but I've only seen a couple from Eon, Joanna and Jack the Zipper.

What would be recommended viewing of an alt-porn title for a viewer who isn't all that much into that culture, but is open-minded. It's difficult for me when porn is so much about the girl's looks and attitudes and personalities. For example, I'm a fan of Justine Joli from her Andrew Blake-type movies. Very elegant and poised. Has her personality in her videos changed?

Actually, this New Wave Hookers sounds interesting enough that I might give it a run-through.

I've seen only some old work of her Blake work.

In which way can personality be portrait without sound and plot? It's difficult.

My review for this movie is up, and I have to say, it's really good. The girls are all hot, the guys are all hot, and they aren't your typical porn starlets either. They look like real people, albiet really hot real people. Plus, the movie looks great, and the sex is actually hot without being gross/nasty/mean.

Well, I guess I am getting old or I just don't get it, but the only thing I liked about this movie was the extra disc with the original New Wave Hookers, which has great picture and sound quality.

If this is the "new porn" I'll stick to my classics, thank you.

How's the quality of the original NWH disc on the set? Is it a new print or the same old VCA disc?

It's fun, the music is actually pretty good (esp. for porn, but it's not really "porn music"), and the girls are the type of girls I find really appealing. It is not revolutionary or all that wildly different -- it's just a little switch-up from couch-gonzo and "bad Hollywood" feature parodies or what have you. "Alt" is just something to hang it on, though it mostly comes down to the tattoos, the music, and set design and the way it is all framed, throughout, from the POV of the girls. The lighting is too dark (on purpose) and the focus really soft in some scenes, which may be a problem for some folks (also, while the sex is vigorous, it is also fairly art-directed, so it's not like watching a REd Light show ... but that's a virtue).

Packaging is A+ ... and the original is a nice bonus (I wish VCA/LFP had remastered the OG NWH disc and redone the menu and options so it looked like the other two discs instead of those lame VCA classic menus ... But I guess if they spent $100k they were probably just looking for a way to clear a few thousand old Greg Dark DVDs outta the warehouse rather than do an upgraded reissue of the original... ya think?)

It's the same as the current VCA release - they've just put a new label on the outside of the DVD to match the other two discs in the set.

Porn is about fantasy? Porn is about packaging!

That out of the way, I'm just happy to see that someone's making something that isnt either "couch-gonzo and "bad Hollywood" feature" and that VCA sees fit to put a little money behind the effort. There was a 25 foot tall Joana Angel at AVN/AEE which probably cost more to make that most gonzo videos; all of them if you subtract talent, packaging and replication. (You mean there's more to making a movie than talent, packaging, and replication?)

Anyway, congrats to eon and co. for taking a risk, and showing the world something that's at least a little different.

I wish that were true. It's interesting that Hustler product is often so badly designed. Just an indifferent hodge-podge not unlike most gonzo product. I don't know what they are paying Alaska (or if that's coming out of Eon's cut), but it's certainly worth it.

Basically, I think companies like Evil, Elegant, 3rd Degree and Pulse have the most appealing cover art/package. Patrick Collins was going wild talking up silver foil at the ADT party. And companies that care should realize that better packaging makes dirty DVDs more appealing for purchase. Not sure about you, but I usually scoop up the DVD covers with huge screaming gapes outta the way when guests are dropping by ... well, most guests

Yeah, I kinda don't think it cost that much ... but I really got a kick out of the movie. Much as I have also enjoyed DAC's episodic misadventures in K-Town and the Buttman Comics features. And some of Joe Gallant's NYC weirdness, as well. Just anything left of center, vaguely ambitious, more thoughtful than a couch, a cam, a cabal of callow cocksmen and a girl named Cherry.

I'm guessing most of that money went for the music, which is all from established bands. I mean, the amount of songs in the movie, and from that amount of groups has to cost a pretty penny.

As a side note, the band Electrocute, which is on the Neu Wave Hookers soundtrack, is also on The Spongebob Squarepants Soundtrack with their song Bikini Bottom. Wow... what a resume.

I don't find Eon McKai to be innovative or challenging in his porn movies. It's just the same-old same-old, but with pretensions to hipness. The sex scenes are all conventional male-female or female-female. If Eon wanted to be truly daring, he would have put some male-male in it.

The Dark Brothers were way more innovative for their time.

Tony,

In fact, John Cameron Mitchell's next mainstream feature, entitled "Shortbus", is going to contain male-male as well as male-female and female-female in it. The mainstream culture may actually be ahead of the porn industry in terms of incorporating male-male passion into the overall picture. We live in interesting times where male-male passion is coming to the fore. It's everywhere, basically. See Desperate Housewives, Brokeback Mountain, MTV etc etc. I really don't see how Eon compares to the mainstream in terms of innovation or daring.

Any time you compare porn to mainstream film and television you're going to be disappointed. Why should Eon be any different?

arthur, TonyC was being sarcastic, which seemed to go right over your head. Tony has made one male/male film and I believe has more planned for the future if the existing one sells well and the right people come along.

Scipio,

Movies that contain only male-male are one thing. The truly daring and challenging model is the one that incorporates male-male into the same movie, not as a major part of it but as an incidental, even fleeting part of it. Rocco Siffredi does it to a small extent, his latest Dirty Dreams featuring a man placing his hand on another man's penis.

Not if – when. As in "when I finish the films we've already got in the can." The only reason we haven't (yet) done a triad featuring bisexual men is because casting a reallife triad of this sort has proved difficult. In some ways, bisexual men are more closetted than gay men.

BTW, both of our current releases (straight) have extended trailers for D&H (gay) promiently featured in the DVD navigation, and the response has been outstanding.

You have to go to American underground cinema of the 60s and 70s to get the mix smith describes. Check out the thread on Curt McDowell and "Thundercrack!"

I think that Arthur (or Smith, or whatever alias he's using these days) would like that movie. It has it all, but that's because Curt McDowell had unlimited artistic vision more than anything.

Smith/Arthur, if you're reading this, be sure to see "Thundercrack!". Trust me and skronker, this is what you're looking for. And it's also a movie for you if you're a cult film fan.

But since this thread is about "Neu Wave Hookers", I won't go any further about this.

The movie isn't for everyone. It's for people who want pretty porn, but not something really tame. I loved it personally, but if you want super gonzo type porn, I would say look elsewhere. Its just a fun movie with fucking hot sex. But it does take twenty minutes to get to the actual sex. Check out the review over at DVDtalk. They loved it, and gave it a great review, but they are also really detailed in that review.

Yeah, I do agree with you that Kern's original short films were the real deal -- even if they weren't technically porn. But at the time I remember thinking those were pretty silly.

Lung Leg rules, now and forever -- she WAS real. Eating worms a good 20 years before Rob Black had the idea for Heather Gables.
