You might discover that the tattoo is complete giberish or that the artist was not very good and the pictograms don't mean what she thought they would mean. Sadly it's very common for a North Americans to get Chinese or Japanes pictogram tattoos which they think mean something but in fact have a very different meaning. I don't know if it's ever occured to anyone but why would a tattoo artist be any more of a linguist than you? I don't know how man tattoo artist learn to do proper pictogram from someone who speaks the language? My guess is very few. Therefore their understanding of Pictograms is limited to them having seen it in a book and tattoing it onto the body of the person. Another problem is that many people take English expressions and simply get the tattoo artist to tattoo the appropriate pictogram not realising that the order of pictogram has to be different when writting in the Chinese or Japanese if you want the expression to mean the same thing. Rihanna got the expression "Rebel Flower" tattooed on her neck in French but she and the artist didn't do a proper translation and what she meant to say in French is not what she got tattooed. The tattoo reads rebelle fleur which is simply translating each word and keeping them in the original order but it should have read fleur rebelle to have the same meaning in French that it had in English. Now imagine doing that with pictograms and you can see how quickly it can get bad. [Link]
