So we launched a bit of a mini-redesign this morning to get rid of the ancient left-nav menu system. We also combined the old left-navigation search features into a new area on the top navigation menu. The new search is far more feature-rich than the old way for users browsing with java_script enabled. It will provide matching suggestions and if you're logged into the site it will remember your common searches and provide them at the top of the suggestion list. We find that people regularly search for the same phrases over and over as a means to navigate to a specific movie or forum thread. (a certain forum member always searches for "pooped my pants") . The new search will make it easier to locate the destination page.
The suggestions are rate-limited so it might take half a second or so for it to realize you have stopped typing and go fetch the results from the database.

are you saying you used the jump-to-forum select list in the old menu?

Yes, that is Safari-related.

Where is the advanced search for movies located now?
You know, where you could search for movies by a particular director starring a particular performer, and that kind of thing.

I don't know whether to post this here or in the thread about images, but with the new layout, when you post several images they all post side-by-side, making the thread infinitely wide.
That's a huge problem if anyone posts something worth reading that has more than one short sentence per paragraph. Because now you'll have to scroll back and forth, back and forth, to read each line.
Check out the mess this particular page has become (and note that it looked fine yesterday): https://forum.adultdvdtalk.com/porn-stars-getting-sexier-with-weight-gain/3

The "Posted - Jan 3 2014 : 11:28:41 AM" Maddy O'Reilly pic goes way off to the right of the page (thus causing the whole page to become "too wide").
I think it has something to do with the pic being posted to the right of some text (instead of on its own line).
i.e. {text} {pic}
I bet if Drew or a mod edits that post to put the text and the pic on their own lines that the problem will correct itself.
I'm using Firefox 30 on Windows 7.

^ Yeah this is what I see too.
Maybe it's a firefox-only problem?
edit: and thanks for telling me where the advanced search is. I don't know why I didn't see it before.

Something also happened with the size of the text box you type in when you're posting, so that now when you go to click "Post New Reply", you have to scroll down to find the button. It used to be that the text box was small enough that you could see the button right underneath, without any scrolling.
It's a small thing, but it is a pain in the ass. Can the text box size be made slightly smaller to fix this?

I looked at the Weight Gain thread and see the same thing. Specifically this message:
I get the same problem using Opera 12.

I'll look into changing the stylesheet to address these layout issues tomorrow. I tend to use Chrome for everything and only do a cursory check with Safari, Firefox and IE. I haven't had Opera installed in at least 5 years since they started including advertising in the browser.

FWIW, this page is rendering fine with Firefox 27. The weight gain thread does scroll to the right.

I'm surprised about the adveritsing in Opera, but I forgot that I bought it several generations ago, so maybe it's the free version that has ads.
Just to be clear: the page does render okay in my brower, as in I can see all the images. But the images are side-by-side and it's almost triple my brower width (and I'm running full-frame), so side-scrolling must be done. As the text auto-wraps to fit the horizontal width, it means I have to side-scroll to read anything longer than just a few words. I believe that's what killbillvol69 was saying, and I concur.
It would be great if there were a max width setting for ADT.

I like the new look a lot, very sleek.
And no problem so far with Firefox 29.0.1 for Mac.
Thanks!

Yes, I'd like to have a way to instantly jump to a different sub-forum. The sidebar offered that capability.
Today, if I'm in PornPool and want to go to Polls or TechTalk or WN&N or whatever, i have to
1. Click 'All Forums'
2. Scroll down the page far enough to reveal the desired sub-forum
3. Click the sub-forum
Something similar to the dropdowns for Movie - Pornstars - Shop - Talk at the top of the page would be perfect IMO.
Or...replicate the JumpTo: dropdown at the very bottom of the page; thereby having it also placed at the top of the page.

I like the new design. The only thing missing, as has already been mentioned, is the ability to jump from one forum to another. Otherwise I likey, and suspect it's more mobile friendly.

We're going to add a jump-to section to the menu for logged-in users. If you're not logged in you will have the existing menu.

If you're logged in you should see a new FORUMS dropdown as part of the new navigation bar. If you're not logged in you don't get that option.

Fabulous!
In general, I think the new look and format is way cleaner, modern, and generally sharp. Nice work.

Oh God this is killing me.
Is there any way to fix this?
It's especially bad on a laptop with a touchpad mouse, because then when you finish typing, you have to drag your finger across the touch pad several times to get all the way over the the right and find the scroll down thingy.

I'm having the same exact, frustrating problem with the page width being way too wide and having to use the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of my browser to read every single line of text. And like you, I'm on a laptop computer (Windows 7, Internet Explorer) with a touchpad mouse. I'd like to know if this is a problem with my web browser or if it's just the site layout itself. Quite frankly, I was completely satisfied with the previous site layout; maybe it wasn't the best-looking, but damn it, it was simple and all the functions were easy to use. As the ol' saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Okay, after posting that, I left this forum and jumped to the Porn Pool and the problem with the extra-wide pages was gone. I also went to other forums like Star Crossed and Porn News & Press Releases and I did not experience that problem in those forums, either. But now I come back to this forum and thread and the problem reappears-both in this thread and when I clicked "Post New Reply" to type this. I'm typing this post in a way-too-wide text box right now.
Oh well, as long as I don't experience this problem anymore in the forums I frequent, I'm fine.

It was a comment on the scroll. I was trying to make the joke that you can read the first 10 words w/o having to scroll to read the rest.

It's not dependent on the subforum, it's at the thread level. If someone posts photos that show side-by-side, or otherwise extend past your browser width, the whole thread resizes to fit. Since the text wraps to the width of the browser window, that makes the text too wide as well.
If I went back and edited this message to take out three of those four photos above, this thread would fit properly.

What I really hate are the posts where the poster replies to a post -- "quoting" all 10 huge pics -- just to type a single sentence like "She's so hot." [o\|]
If/when I quote pic posts, I will usually pick just one pic, and "(snip)" the others.
If the pics I'm responding to are directly above my new post, I try to skip "quoting" any pics at all.

^ I've bitched about that for years. It's not so bad here; I've quit other forums outright because of it. (But usually they're quoting all kinds of animated signature shit, and it makes threads virtually unreadable).
I'd still love to see a quoted image be resized to a thumbnail. Big enough so you know what they're referring to, but small enough not to fuck up the conversation.

Some forums automagically strip the images out of quoted text. On those forums, it is still technically possible to include the full-size pics in a reply post, but it'd require the re-poster to 'manually' rewrite the link codes and such, which is enough of a PITA that very few people go through the effort.

The search bar doesn't work properly when I'm actually in the forum. Instead, it's slightly lower and covers the links on the left and "Search," "Logout," &c. on the right, though I can still click on those even though they're covered.
The menu looks like this:
MOVIES¡
PORNSTARS¡
TALK¡
SHOP¡
FORUMS¡
Search (Pulldown menu) Search field
GO
The search function works; the other links do not. To sum, the previous version of the forum worked perfectly well. If it ain't broke...

Why do the yellow marked as read topics never go away now? I always use the Active Topics to quickly browse through what's new since the last time I was on, and now it's just an endless list of yellow folders...

To me it seems that the ADTS cookie does not properly update the last visit date. When I go to active topics and I see a lot of yellow I delete that cookie manually and reload and then the last visit date gets updated.
The one in the ADTS cookie always seems to be some visits behind.

To Drew:
Here's what I see if I try to post:
ADT Screenshot.jpg
Notice that the "Post New Reply" button would be just out of frame, below the shot. Thus having to scroll the mouse over to the scroll bar (or at least out of the text box) in order to scroll down that tiny bit just to get to it.
An interesting thing I noticed though, is that this doesn't happen if I go into someone else's post to edit it. See for example if I tried to edit your post above:
ADT Screenshot 2.jpg
OK admittedly it's a bit small, but you can see the "Edit Reply" button at the bottom of the screen, without me having to scroll down.
I'm using Firefox 29.0.1, screen rez 1366x768
