I recently bought two Vivid dvds, "Nikki Tyler PI" and "Bobby sox"
I noticed that my copy of "PI" did not have any multi-angles as advertised on the backcover. It did not even have menus nor any chapter points. This seems very weird for a Vivid dvd. However it does look like a legitimate Vivd dvd (it is pressed (not burnt), double sided, has the round Vivid sticker and laser-etch in the middle).
I was wondering if anyone that owns "Nikki Tyler PI" dvd has a different version to mine? Some of the reviews I read said that this dvd has multi-angles.
Also, my copy of "Bobby sox", at 1:47, is significantly shorter than the advertised 144 minutes. I searched around the web, and it seems that everybody selling this dvd lists it at 144 minutes, would this be a mistake? (I suspect the 144 minutes is referring to the original UNEDITED theatre release)
I am very interested (I think a number of people are too) in acquiring unedited versions of these older Vivid movies, is there currently no way to get them?
Thank you.

My understanding is that Vivid frequently cut up films to fit onto DVD's, so it is no surprise that "Bobby Sox" is shorter than the time listed.
As for "PI," I can't recall a Vivid DVD that didn't include both advertising at the beginning and some kind of menu (usually a badly designed one). I suspect your DVD is fake, but it could be Vivid's gone cheapskate on re-issues.

As Hardware says, above, Vivid did a lot of cut-to-fit with it's videos...especially when making the transfer from videocassette to newer technology in the 1990s.
Both "Bobbysox" and "Nikki Tyler PI" were transfered, first, to Laserdiscs (remember them?), which were the size of old music "LP" albums. Laseerdisc technology didn't allow for as much space (or Vivid technicians didn't know how to use the technology properly)so shortening the original was something they did--sometimes using softer R-rated, cable versions, not the XXX hardcore scenes. Many of the sex scenes on laserdiscs were butchered by Vivid: eliminating positions, camera angles, etc. In most cases it destroyed the sexual heat from the original.
And when Vivid produced dvd versions of sexvids from their library, they often used their Laserdisc masters for the transfer. That's why your dvd copy of these two Nikki Tyler sexvids (two of her best IMO) aren't the same, or as hot, as the cassette versions.
BTW, I've found that many of Vivid's "comp" dvds will have the restored, longer versions of scenes that had been sliced-and-diced in their dvd transfer.

Speaking of Nikki, can anyone suggest her best compilation dvd?

Thanks for the info. Btw, how long are the cassette editions of PI and Bobby sox?
I have compared my Bobby sox dvd forklift scene to "Ultimate Nikki Tyler" compilation (I will assume this is as close to unedited as we can purchase), and found that angle 1 has been significantly truncated. The blowjob scene is about half as long, the cowgirl scene half as long too, but the hardest hit one was the doggiestyle scene. It is only about 1/4 - 1/3 as long!! Can't believe how much they cut out....
The dvd only had ONE section of multiangle for that scene, and that was during the blowjob. Angles 2 and 3 offer only about 40 seconds of additional material over the longer U.N.T. version. So in summary, the dvd has an extra 40 seconds of additional material, but loses out on about 4-5 minutes of original material (and those are HOT material of Nikki getting bent over and moved around the forklift), making it really usesless compared to the U.N.T. version.
As for PI, I have not seen the most complete versions of the scenes from that movie, but my multiangleless DVD version seems to have complete scenes, (it feels very similar to Vivid WAVE releases) each lasting about 9 minutes long. I suspect that if a multiangle DVD version of PI IS avaialable, then those scenes will be truncated on angle 1 (main angle), with some edits thrown in for angles 2 and 3, making it similar to the Bobby sox situation.
If anyone that owns the multiangle PI can compare with me, that will be great! It will be interesting to see if my guess is correct.
I also own several more Nikki dvds, two of them being Plaything and Plaything 2, which are both WAVE releases. The NIkki (b/g) scenes in these 2 are significantly longer, being around 15 minutes and 12 minutes for Plaything and Plaything2. Thus I suspect whenever we get WAVE titles, we are getting as close to unedited editions as we can buy.

Hard to say. Most of Nikki's work was for Vivid, and Vivid has so many different comps of their former stars...using many of the same scenes over and over again.
Still, I'd guess that if there's a Nikki Tyler "Deep Inside" or "Royal" from Vivid they will contain most of her scenes.
BTW, Nikki didn't really perform in a lot of scenes by today's standards. And, IMO, her best scenes were with Mark Davis in "PI", Mark Wallice in "Street Legal", and the b/g/g with Jon Dough and Melissa Hill in "Nikki Loves Rocco". Nikki's scene with Rocco was a mis-match of sytles, with Rocco trying to dominate her and rough her up. Nikki seemed uncomfortable working with him, and was not enjoying herself. It showed in her performance.

Yo Derek,
You're right on in terms of Jenteal's scene with Rocco...but it is hard to tell because it is so badley edited...I wonder if there is a better version somewhere...

Hi Noriinad,
You're talking about Nikki Tyler's scene with Rocco, right? Doesn't matter: I haven't seen a longer version of either Nikki or Jenteal's scenes with Rocco. The Nikki & Rocco action looks as if there was numerous stops/starts, so the cameraman may not have gotten enough footage for anything more than what we've already seen.
What happened during the shoot between Nikki & Rocco would be a great question to ask Nikki if she ever did an interview (Rocco tends to give self-serving answers during interviews). But since she's been retired for close to ten years, her porn life is in her long-ago past. Not likely we'll see new interviews.

Ahh Nikki Tyler. Her and Dude Love had a bit of thing going for a while... It ended badly when she retired and could no longer rent her movies.

I take exception to those disparaging remarks about whether the reason for the different running times in the Laserdisc is because the "Vivid technicians didn't know how to use the technology properly". When I joined Vivid Video's Post production department in 1994,they had a staff of 3 editors and a supervisor and did not make Laserdiscs. By 1996, when Bobby Sox came out there were 17 editors: 5 Feature editors and 12 "comp editors"; 2 "QC" guys, 1 Tape Operator, 1 Assistant Post Production Supervisor, and 1 Post Super, and they still did not make Laserdiscs. These discs had to have been made somewhere else. During this period in history, Vivid Video was making almost one full length feature every week. Even with this crew, that might explain the bad editing.
