Nintendo Joins Battle of New Game Systems
E3: Nintendo Revolution, Game Boy Micro unveiled

Note to Nintendo: If you want to regain marketshare, you should be the first to innovate (not the last).

"Revolution's built-in wireless Internet will provide downloadable access to the thousands of games in company's 20-year-old library, going back to the original Nintendo Entertainment System."

"Iwata-san said that the system is the smallest game console yet designed by Nintendo, about the size of three standard DVD cases stacked together."

"The Revolution uses a slot-loading drive that plays new 12-inch optical discs containing Revolution games"

I don't understand how those two statements are physically possible. There's got to be a lot of bullshitting going on.

The Apple Mini is not much higher than that, and not as deep.
Slim-line DVD drives are quite...slim?
I guess they'll need a well designed cooling system though.

Which is something I think Nintendo has messed up on in the past - not being backward compatible...

I dunno, they lost marketshare with the Nintendo 64, then the Gamecube didn't quite catch up although it fared differently on different markets.

They'll have to have many many very good games straight away to get a chance to really compete with Sony and Microsoft...

I think Nintendo should provide a game system for about $200 less per unit than the other two. Basically they'll target the people that could care less about playing mp3s on their gaming system. That may be what they're going after.

I have a laptop, a stereo, a DVD player, and a cable broadband hookup. I don't need a $500 multimedia hub. And I think that Sony's Playstation 3 hype is little more than hot air. Give me the anachronistic ability to download 8-bit and 16-bit Nintendo games through an iTunes-like service for a dollar each, so I can host Mortal Kombat parties and start Tecmo Bowl leagues.

According to the media you need all of these things and an HDTV that only looks good when you find the ocassional show broadcast in 720p.

Much more "freedom talk" out of you and you may get a visit from Big Brother or the Combine.

Oh yeah? Wait til you hear this: High Definition TV is a scam! After spending all this money on the new screen, you have to pay a lot more to subscribe to HD cable service, which only consists of about five channels. Every regular-definition channel comes out at about the size of a postage stamp. And the hi-def exposes everything you didn't want to see. You don't need it! You can come knocking on my door anytime, Sony! I'll bring you down!
