Is the new Xbox supposed to be backward compatible? It will be interesting to see if the original xbox fan boys will drop their "my console is more powerful and thus better" arguement if the PS3 turns out to be more powerful than the Xbox 360. ( I like all 3 consoles of the current generation).

blueray will be nice but I don't know if I want quality or longer movies with 50gb-100gb of space on a disc.

It looks as if Microsoft is providing a multimedia hub while Sony and Nintendo will only be providing a game machine. The big hurdle is catching up with Xbox Live.

I read this last night. Personally I love the Sony Playstation, I have bought 2 or 3 of each onsole for each reason so far and I'll be in line to get a PS3. I still think Sony has made the perfect controller, but I really want to see how this goes with the BluRay.

Nintendo is too kid oriented and way too proprietary for me.

Playstations are always the second best system but sell the most for some reason. They are a little too proprietary and Sony is always one season behind in development on all of their products.

I have a mod-chip in my Xbox so now it's an awesome multimedia console using xbox media centre (not the weak Microsoft version.) The only improvements I'd like to see are a remote that can turn the box on and off as well as wireless keyboards and mice for halo as well as web browsing.

first of all, there hasn't been any mention of the xbox 360 being backwards compatible. the xbox and the 360 will be using different graphics chips so it would be very difficult. also i've already read some game developers say that the ps3 blows the 360 out of the water as far as power goes. the ps3 will be far more powerful than the 360.

mmm. I was a big N64 fan then a DreamCast fan then a GameCube fan (guess you could say i back losers). I think they were far better consoles but were beaten by Sony's superior marketing and the ability for kids to buy copied games. UIn recent years i've stuck safely with PC gaming.

I rather enjoyed the N64, wasn't a fan of the DC at all I had one and returned it a week later, same with the XBox - LOL

As for the GC, I do think they aim too much to kids, but I have one. I started on the NES and will always have loyalty to them. The N64 couldn't compare to the quality of the SNES tho

Sorry, I'm getting off topic a little. I seen the new controllers on that site provided by squirtfan and I can't say I like the look of those... I just hope I can use the old PS2 controllers on it... Maybe an adaptor is in order

let's see both systems once they get past the prototype stage and they set their Suggested Retail Prices. I bet there's a lot of vapour-ware in those press releases.

p.s. There's nothing wrong with the nintendo being aimed at kids. Personally I think it's a good thing that someone is taking care of the kids and providing parents a "safe" platform.

According to the Wikipedia link for XBox 360:
Nothing yet for Playstation3. I imagine PS3 will lost market share since XBox 360 will hit the stores first. Once Playstation3 comes out, I imagine a pricing war will start for marketshare.

Agree, but I'm a 27 year old man looking for fun games. Granted I find fun in animated gore and simulated violence

So my point in saying that is, that since it's geared more toward kids, I find fewer games to play on it. Like I said I still own one, but I think I could have sated that a little different... Hence the reply

I hope the price point on these is 300 bucks, then I will try and pick up one of either the xbox or ps3 right away and then the other one when the price comes down after a few years. I only picked up a GC because it was 99 bucks. I do love my Ps2 and xbox though and still have an assload of games to play on them so if the price is too high on the new models I can wait.

me too

I totally understand your point of view.

$300 to $400 seems like a good point for a start for the 360. I can's see the Sony being that same price with bluetooth and the brand new blueray drive on top of everything else.

I agree with this statement overall but have been playing my xbox more lately because many of the games that won't run on my computer have been coming to the consoles as xbox exclusives.
