Not to mention the fact that like most other types of movies, horror movies (as bad as they may appear to be on the surface) often have hidden meanings and messages that you don't necessarily realize when you're watching them or when someone tells you what the plot is. Plain old sex is usually just that and porn directors are often not sophisticated enough nor concerned with influencing their audience beyond just getting them to buy more porn. A person can sit and watch a two hour PG (Or even G rated) Hollywood movie and have their mind absolutely filled with hidden messages that virtually no one is aware of. This is an adult who may not be aware of these things. Most kids wouldn't spot even the most obvious stuff. And it goes right into their heads unchallenged. does anyone have specific suggestions for fighting horror movie media saturation, besides general complaints to congressmen? i thought of emailing my county's prosecutor, but i don't like his record of unethical behavior, and he is suing the state for a budget to keep his own office adequately staffed. the state attorney general has one foot out the door to run for governor. next step is u.s. attorneys, but i think this is out of their jurisdiction.
Societies attitudes are really fucked up about sex in America. Your kids must be taught the perverted concept that sex is shameful, disgraceful, sinful, and must be hidden. If you teach them anything else you had better be careful or the authorities can take your kids and put you in prison. Raping and murdering women is a staple in crime shows on your TV every night. But porn harms women and harms society. Rape and kill women all you want, just don't show tits. You can beat people to death and murder as many as you want to, just don't call them a a motherfucker. You can abuse drugs and alcohol in front of your kids everyday of there life's teach them to abuse drugs and alcohol, but if you fuck in front of them you go to prison. We give sexual deprived 16 yr old boys cash money, a car and streets full of drug whores and wonder why STD rates are going up.
I, too, am curious as to whom would be the people to contact about this. Writing to Federal attorneys may not be such a bad idea, since the FCC is a federal agency. You may even want to try Morality in Media or some other whacked-out crusader group like that. The irony of a porn viewer working with an anti-porn group to fight against horror film commercials would also be priceless.
I was born in the late 40's. I remember when porn was grainy black and white 8mm loops shown at stag parties. Then came the 70's and things changed. Then came VHS and DVDS and it became a billion dollar business. Though Ed Meese in the 80's tried to stop it, he couldn't because there was a demand. Eventually we found that porn and mainstream could co-exist quite nicely. So I don't really get the Max Hardcore prosecution. I am not a great fan of Max's work, though I like some of it, but the fact remains it takes a great deal of effort to find his work. Those that like it find it and view it. Those that don't dont. Those that don't like porn at all have no clue as to what he is doing. So why the prosecution? There are some limits. I agree with the 18 thing. Sex with minors should not be sanctioned. However Max pretends about minors but to my knowledge has not used minors. So again why the prosecution? Frankly I am much more upset with Cinemax beaming in simulated sex into my living room when my kids are watching the TV. I can't tell you how many times I have been embarassed and angered when surfing and come across those scenes. Though the content is clearly tame when compared to Max, I would much rather this stuff be more regulated than Max being put in jail. I find the priorities to be misplaced.
You can censor it yourself. Either quit paying for Cinemax or use the adult content block. Then you will be happy, the people who watch Cinemax will be happy and the Constitution will still exist.
Interesting, in a thread complaining about obscenity porn crackdowns other members are trying to crackdown on what they consider to be obscenity, horror films.
^It's not so much cracking down on the films themselves, but on the forced exposure to violent and psychologically disturbing content. I have no problem with horror films (especially if it's horror-porn) but advertisements should be restricted to the later times on TV and removed from subways and buses.
Everything on TV is potentially poison for your mind. You'd probably be better off if you just turned the damn thing off. No form of entertainment is going to be completely harmless. Believe it or not, your kids might be subverted far more by cartoons and other "children's programing" (Incredibly accurate term) than anything else on TV. ^ I agree 100%. My wife and I only use our TV for watching DVDs. No cable, no antenna, nothing. Pure poison, and a complete waste of time and money. (How they managed to convince people to pay to watch commercials is beyond me.) I wish I had known all that as a kid, but my family's addicted to TV. That's how we'd spend our time together on evenings and weekends. And the damn TV is still always on during family gatherings. Drives me nuts. I can't avoid public transportation, though.
Funny and maybe a little sad. Let people censor themselves. I do it all the time and it works.

I have no problem with a little censorship. There's a lot of really filthy stuff in porn that appeals to some of the filthier minded people on this board. All of you filthy people know who you are, and you know the filthy things you like to which I'm referring. If the message has to be "Stop it or you'll go to prison like Max Hardcore" then so be it. Maybe that's what you deserve for not being able to restrain yourselves.
A littl censorship is like a little bit pregnant. Once again your idea of "really filthy stuff" may be different from someone elses. But more importantly, don't watch it if you don't like it. That is the whole point of content. Others in this thread don't like TV as it is "poison". I don't particuarly feel the same way, I love some of the cable series like Dexter and no surprise here, Californication but the operative word is choice. Theirs not to watch and mine to watch what I think is okay.
Is it really censorship that's being discussed here, though? I mean, with porn, yeah, the crusaders want to eliminate it completely. But it's not like porn fans are demanding that something like I Wanna Buttfuck an Indian be shown on prime time network television. Everything has its place. I just don't think that advertisements for violent horror films belong on the air during re-runs of Seinfeld or Friends, for instance, or that they should be thrown in my face on the subway or bus. I mean, I understand people not wanting porn thrust upon them in that way--I think we all could, right?
ira isaacs is another one on trial. scat, bestiality, etc. the case was delayed for a while because the first judge, alex kozinski, had some weird shit on his own site, like naked women painted as cows. this is a serious topic, but still, lmao.
