I had this crazy theory the other day. Imagine in 500 years from now, people look back to our era in time and to all the porn stars from the 70s to now. These beautiful greek goddess type women. I think they may look back at them sort of like Gods. Very iconic figures in history. Assuming the world lasts that long. It's like if the Ancient Egyptians had porn. Correctomundo! You're a smart motherfucker! But its not so much in 500 years time as it is now. Porn stars are already being worshipped on digital altars. A massive amount of sexual and emotional energy is channeled into the 'public personas' of these rarified beings just as it has always been. Great discussion topic. I already consider many of these starlets a deity in their own right, and hopefully in 500 years the world will be a lot less prudish and admire a lot of the sex film stars for their courage in helping people with their own self awareness. I have no doubt as crazy as this theme may sound that this is a very realistic possiblility.
I don't think there will be a human race in 500 years. If there's anyone left, it will probably be a small population and I doubt they'll have the luxury of studying people who lived 500 years in the past. Or if they do study us, it will be to try and figure out what went wrong.
This could be - but, as implied, it will be way out in our sanctimonious, anal-retentive future. Not sure if it will take 500 years. 100 - 150 might do it.
They should be Goddesses in our time. Pornstars should be the real celebs, not singers or actress. Porn is true art. Takes more guts to fuck and do all the marvelous things they do in front of a camera than just sing. And theyre honest. Popstars look like pornstars nowdays, but pornstars are brave enough to go the whole mile
I'd be happy if pornstars simply got the respect they deserve in the future. There are actors/actresses that get praise because of their talents or looks or abilties to get people to watch them do their craft. There are singers who get praise for the same reasons. Pornstars should get praise for the same reasons. If the stigma wasn't there and we were just going by how many guys would rather watch certain pornstars over certain actresses there'd be many pornstars who'd easily be more popular. In the end all actresses, singers and pornstars do is provide entertainment.
I agree, adult performers deserve a lot more respect. Porn has a significant impact on world popular culture. And performers are internationally famous. I think pornstars should be regarded as great sexual athletes or sexual performance artists.

I agree, also. Thankfully, many do (many of whom post here!), but it is indeed frustrating trying to explain what porn performers do to people who want to talk about "acting" and "dialogue." They don't understand that they need to radicalize their notions of narrative, performance, acting, and film in order to comprehend what we're talking about. Oh, and they would need to believe that sex is a valid activity to spotlight, and that sexual arousal is as valid or important as the arousal of humour, fright, and the sads.
^ Sadly, when I make such analogies they sort of roll their eyes. Sex is easy to do, to their mind. Anyone can do it and no skill is involved in performing it.

Isn't that the same logic that was used to look down upon stage actors at one time? At any rate, you should invite them to prove their assertion. There's the camera, have at it...
Don't many stage actors or those with a stage acting background look down upon other actors and don't many movie actors also look down at TV only actors. The bigotry between movie and TV actors is not as rampant today as it was in bygone years because of what TV has been able to produce but I'm sure that most TV actors would rather be movie exclusive If they could earn a great living doing that. If mainstream actors doing similar things in different fields can be bigots among themselves than it shouldn't really surprise anyone that they would look down on people who act in porn.
+1 You can thank centuries of religious dogma and bigotry for what is effectively a caste system in the entertainment industry today. Compared to the bankers and brokers who got the world into the current economic mess it's in as well as the company executives, mainstream actors/actresses and singers who failed to fairly contribute to society through their tax avoidance schemes, I think porn actors and actresses are far more respectable.
I'd like to see pornstars crossover and get to work on tv shows and movies. I know many of them don't have the acting skills to star in a movie do any heavy acting but many are good enough to play bit parts. I think it would be fun to a pornstar pop up in small roles even if they don't get to do much.
Big fan of it. I hear there are lots of pornstars on but I guess I don't recognise them. If there are pornstars appearing on that show it's a great thing. I assume they're playing the whores on the show. Nothing wrong with that and no reason pornstars can't play whores, strippers, bikini babes, hot girlfriend, hot screctaries, girl next door, etc... on any number of shows. If they have the right look and it's scene they have the ablity to do they should be able to be allowed to do it and not be judged by their porn background.

Actually, they're hired because of their porn background. The director says, "okay honey, in this scene I want you to take off all your clothes and simulate this, that, or the other thing". Porn girl, "okay". Mainstream actress: "is the nudity really necessary?Can I keep my top on? I don't feel comfortable doing what you want. Etc etc etc"
^ That's great. It makes more sense to get pornstar who would have no problem getting nude, simulating sex and making it look more real and natural than getting an "real" actress who doesn't want to show anything and make the scene look strange because she's spending all her time trying to cover up and do anything that looks sexual. There are plenty of places a pornstar would actually be a better choice to be cast in a movie, tv show, music video, or whatever because they have the right type of look and would be more willing to do certain things.
Gods are designed to be petty, vindictive, greedy, jealous, violent, stupid, etc. and sometimes beneficial. Some of them have lasting name recognition.
