The good thing is, once you get established, you can make a name for yourself. Look at Jules Jordan.
#2 is a possibility, but difficult. Look at Strazynski (sp?) Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5 .

| Botticelli Member 7 Posts 6/05 | I'm new here so I hope people will bear with me even if I say something stupid. I'm surprised by some of the people who write in this forum. Everyone who posts here seems so genuine and friendly. It's great to see posts from some of my favorite people, like Kami Andrews and Steve Holmes. Steve Holmes, you're my idol! Anyway, I am hoping anyone from in the industry has advice for an outsider. It's a fact, there's people on both sides of the camera, you don't have to be quite as beautiful if you aren't going to be in front of the camera. Several years back, I graduated with a degree concentrating on fiction and non-fiction writing. After college I got involved in video production and worked on some very high quality productions in positions ranging from Gaffer to Cinematographer to Producer and even wrote a film script and wrote and directed a production myself. The reason I was hoping for advice is that I came up with some ground breaking concepts that I wanted to introduce into the adult industry. The problem is that I have written to people at several companies, including people like Vince Voyeur and John Stagliano. Since I never received replies, I can only assume they either didn't read my letters, or else they didn't believe that I can deliver ideas that are as potent as the ones I want to discuss with them. My questions for anyone who is willing to answer are: 1.) How can I get in touch with the people who would really be interested in my ideas? and: 2.) Is there a way of protecting my ideas, so that a production company can't just take my ideas and use them without giving me some form of credit? [Link] |

This isn't mainstream where they hire teams of writers. Some adult movies in the opening credits will have "Written, produced, and directed by ..." Good luck. DenverDon |

| Botticelli Member 7 Posts 6/05 | It's true there's a lot of smoke blowing going on out there, but you'd be surprised how many people end up in poverty who have had ideas just as brilliant as Bill Gates. It just happens that they don't always have the resources or knowledge to turn their ideas into tangible products. Look at Commodore for example. I'm still not sure how IBM beat out Commodore with an 8 color platform. And Apple did it with a grayscale platform. I guess I'm better off keeping my ideas to myself. The problem then is: I once read that John Stagliano used to drop 8,000 dollars productions that would rake in 8 million in revenues. I guess maybe I can just hope that by the time I'm 50 years old or so I'll have the 8,000 dollars in expendable savings to drop on a business investment. On the other hand, by that time 8,000 dollars will be worth 2,000 because of inflation, and I'll be the same poverty stricken self I've always been. Thanks for the advice. |
| imak Adult Film Legend 3345 Posts 2/04 | if your initial investment will make you a millionaire consider a short term extra job. fuck sell blood every week for $30. if your ideas are this great don't wait for some one to save you save yourself :) I know it's easier said than done but anything is possible. |

| Steve Holmes Senior Member 1235 Posts 12/02 | first of all I want to thank you for your friendly words in your initial post. But now to your question. Most porn companies are run by entrepreneurs who had a business idea which they are convinced it is good. Some get confirmed and rich and some get bankrupted. You mentioned that you contacted John and Vince. Both are very successful. And as they say in the IT business: "Never touch a running system." You might have a better chance if you find an investor from outside of the industry who has money but no idea of the porn business. If you convince him, that you can multiply his money by revolutionizing the porn industry you might can do it in a joint venture. Steve Holmes |

that we weren't much of a help. But it's not the idea that counts. It's the determination with which you go for it. It's hardly possible that anybody has any thought that hasn't been thought by anybody else before. BTW, your name sounds like you have a too refined art taste to produce smut. |
| Botticelli Member 7 Posts 6/05 | Some of the suggestions are helpful, others are token cynicism. People are always so full of doubt when someone has a new idea that hasn't ever been presented to the public. A reception of doubt doesn't make me any less confident in my ideas. I wouldn't even doubt if someone else has thought them up before. But they haven't brought them to the market in a way that made it worthy of consumer support. Poorly compressed, grainy, distorted, washed out, crude attempts streamed onto your computer through Real Media might con some poor suckers out of their money, but won't build a porno enterprise that commands any respect. Anyway, now if I can only figure out where I'm going to get some investors. If I can, I'm going to be a worthy competitor. It will mean lost sales for the established producers. Too bad we can't be on the same side and share the benefits of my methods. BTW: I may be an artist and an intellectual but that doesn't make me any less horny. |
