Shane.. erm... Pagoda, come back. At least, keep checking out the forum. You will get a Quote Poll some day, regardless if you stop posting now or not.

I've slept on this, and come to a couple conclusions. One is that Walter is right; I need to get a thicker skin. Second is that 3SB is also right; I shouldn't presume to speak for anybody but myself. I've certainly learned my lesson about that one.
However I want to clear up something that 3SB misinterpreted about me on the other topic. I'm not trying to "break free" from the larger group of women with whom I regularly associate; most of whom are intimidated by porn in general, and moreso by their man's appreciation of it. I don't want to leave them behind. I want to bring them with me while I discover it for myself. I know that a lot of women feel left out of the porn loop because we discuss this very thing in other female-only forums. Yes, there are groups out there of more sophisticated women, but there's a huge gap between their level of acceptance and understanding of porn and sex, and that of my usual circle of friends. I'm trying to help close the gap. I think it's a worthwhile endeavor, and that's why I'm going to launch my own site specifically with that aim.
After a particularly vicious flame war in 1999, on a forum about Hollywood movies of all things, I vowed never to engage in bickering online again. What I've never understood is, why people have to be nasty when they disagree? And, why can they not operate under the assumption that every post begins with an unwritten "IMO" or "in my experience?"
3SB was kind enough to send me a personal note, and in it she advised me to simply overlook the people on the forum that rub me the wrong way. I will try very hard to do so. I also hope that others will do the same. I know I can be strident because I use strong words and because I'm not PC. I truly hope that anybody that dislikes my writing style, and more importantly, that dislikes me will simply ignore me.
Skronker's right. I shouldn't take it so seriously. I'm really going to try not to.
One last thing. DEN: Nothing is your fault in any way. You were kind enough to provide a venue where my voice could be heard, and I'm absolutely okay with you drawing attention to it here. My own strong opinions, my way of wording them, and most especially my tendency to generalize are what led to me saying goodbye to ADT. I couldn't stand the heat, so I ran out of the kitchen. Trouble was, I started the fucking fire. I'm here to put it out now, and if possible, change the way I "cook." Perhaps instead of flambe, I should employ a gentle poach or simmer. Den, relax. I'm cool with you. You're awesome.

Psstt, Pagoda, I didn't say that exactly, but I forgive you, since you also said that I was right. It's a personal rule of conduct I have: always agree with persons who believe you are right.
The 'thicker skin' part was advice from DB, IIRC. I just picked up from there, so to speak.
Off topic: Man, I used to write really long posts. I am having trouble getting past the second paragraph rereading them now.

Whoaaa. I was sitting in my office and the ground shifted, heavens opened and a rent in the sky released a sigh of relief. I logged onto ADT and see that indeed, Pagoda has returned, reclaimed her pen from the field of battle and all is right with the board.
And all this time I thought you quit because you'd used up all the words.
I love you Walter. I'd love to see you post some threads with your super observations on porn topics (the ones you present in batches sometimes) I'd like a quiet corner of ADT to talk some more...
Hmmm... I'm not sure if getting me drunk is a good idea. I tend to get ridiculously outgoing and horny when inebriated. I might even commit acts of debauchery!
See, my meltdown may have done some good. We've got the makings of a beer-soaked, toy-enhanced virtual booty call started here. Ahh. That's so sweeeet!
P.S. There's a Hooters on Lake Union? Now I've heard everything. Mr. P says they make the best buffalo wings in the country, but I think he's full of shit. He'd say they make the best fried dog vomit, as long as it's served to him by a Hooter girl.
Just wanted to say that I too am happy and relieved that Pagoda is sticking around. I don't get an opportunity to post as much as others do, but oftentimes I feel I rarely have to, because whatever I was going to say Pagoda often beats me to it, and puts it far more eloquently than I.
Red got a new job that involves some travel. It sounds like regional sales or something like that. He doesn't sound too excited about it, other than the rather large increase in his income. I hope he turns out to really like it once he's done it for a while, although anything that takes Redish away for a month at a time kinda sucks for the rest of us, don't you think?
Doh! Joey, you weirdo! I just finished my rounds of the active topics, and you posted that Redish question everywhere; even on the Redish thread! If he emails me, I'm going to tell him that you've been pining for him, that you miss him terribly, and that you're a lovesick fool.

Finally a thread title everyone in their right minds will have to agree with. Pagoda rocks!
But may I ask what that Pagoda/Gondola thing is all about? Seems to me I've missed something. Not that it's anything of my business but it casts a somewhat bizarre light on Bob.
Pagoda, my issue with choking is not the politics of it, & having been choked myself by dommes in my S/M days, I DO understand why someone would like it -- my problem is that "breath play" is one of the most dangerous kinky practices someone can do, & certainly when a steroided male performer is doing a scene with a girl he knows NOTHING about -- whether she has asthma -- I can think of one case I witnessed where this happened -- or what her general physical health, etc, etc is -- it's STUPID & DANGEROUS to shoot this kind of activity in 90 percent of the situations that arise on a typical porn set.
Otherwise, I agree with you & am glad you spoke out.
I certainly agree with what you just posted, dac. "Breath play" makes me nervous too. I've seen a couple scenes where the girl gets completely choked unconscious, and that does indeed bother me. The trachea can be obstructed by a fat cock or a dildo shoved down the esophagus, and I think female talent run a similar risk in that activity under the circumstances you mentioned, particularly if the scene partner pinches her nose closed. Dunking a girl's head in a toilet is also dangerous. As is working sans condoms.
The #1 argument I've heard against choking is that teenagers could possibly emulate it and suffer brain damage or death. Many kids die each year from purposeful suffocation, including the son of my family physician (click). This is tragic, yes. However, kids (in general) engage in choking almost exclusively for the natural high. Rarely is there a sexual element involved when minors are found dead from intentional suffocation.
The assertion that a pornographer must assume that children are watching his/her product is what I truly object to in the choking debate. A pornographer, who produces a product that is lawfully reserved only for the consumption of adults, should be able to operate under the assumption that his/her product is being used by adults. Thousands of minors die each year from alcohol poisoning and from accidents related to illegal alcohol consumption. Should we outlaw all beer advertising, or ban the depiction of alcohol consumption and intoxication from television and movies? And, should the producers of the actual product--the breweries and the distilleries--close up shop because minors are engaging in an adults-only activity and accidentally killing themselves?
If we're going to ban dangerous activities from porn because kids might copy them, then we have to bring back prohibition, remove all violence from all movies and TV, and all kinds of other shit. I don't want to live in a society that's completely sanitized for children. I have children, and I don't want to live in a 100% child-oriented world. There should be some privileges and vices that come with reaching the age of majority. Pornography is a legal adult product. Endeavoring to make it child-safe is, in my opinion, absurd.
Granted DAC, I know that's not your specific objection. But that's the one I hear/read 95% of the time when the choking issue comes up. Your observations are absolutely scary, and I agree that choking shouldn't be practiced under the circumstances you mentioned. I do think that a careful grip on the neck, on that doesn't obstruct the airway or the carotid, is totally sexy. Sorry.
I figured we're in agreement here, anyway -- just wanted to clarify for others. Hands around neck is sexy, no two ways about it -- & I'm happy to say that there ARE some responsible male performers -- I'll name Surewood & Marcus out of my little repetory company for starters -- who in fact know the difference between acting for the screen & reckless behavior, & can turn in a sexy, dominant performance without flirting with the possibility of making inadvertant snuff porn.
She did. In order to keep things going, words now are being covertly smuggled from XPT in exchange for exclusive rights to Jamesn and Gia J. It's like one of those Iran/contras/arms deals that no one can talk about.
Choking is hot. But even the suggestion of it is hot, as opposed to seriously poleaxing some little girl whose previously most submissive labor experience was mopping up at the Burger Barn when her mean manager stuck her with the job.
That's not to say consenting porn actors who know what they're doing should play patty-cake rather than enjoy themselves accordingly, but there's also no reason to expose performers to undue risk (same as cream pies, double anal, all that other stuff ...)
And LOTS of kids watch porn these days. You can pretty much assume they will copy what they see -- the INternet opens a vast archive of smut that is WAY more extreme than the old Super-8 reels some dude collected and screened at little parties when I was in college. (excluding Jamie Gillis or German eel-fucking flicks, of course).
That's crazy talk (phrase lifted from ultradamno). Words are infinite, I tell you. One can never run out of them. They can be manufactured from thin air, or harvested from a fertile imagination. Silly boys, thinking there are only so many words to go 'round.
I will concede that brevity is not my strong suit. I use so many words because I don't know how to get my point across any other way. In fact, a lot of times, I don't know what the fuck my point is.
