Depends on what you define as fetish, usually these performers know what they get into and if not their careers tend to end quite soon. I'm not into it, but I think I or someone has already mentioned the theory regarding this. That seems to be stretching a bit but the complaint about authenticity is a common one. But such demands for authenticity in porn are always a bit odd, do people watch the footage of people being killed on Orgish or where-ever because action movies 'are fake'? If a performance is convincing why does it matter if it is authentic?
That comparison seems like a bit of a stretch. I'd put it more on the level of CGI vs non-CGI. Sure, the spinning hallway scene in Inception would look cool if it was just a computer.
