VCR makers produced NTSC VCR's and PAL VCR's. Moviemakers produced VHS tapes in NTSC version and PAL version. Likewise with camcorders. Now, with DVD players and DVD discs, the same (NTSC/PAL) condition exists. DVD production companies produce PAL or NTSC format depending on where is customer base located. Because USA is NTSC territory, USA-made DVD's are NTSC. I don't know the detailed geographic map of where is PAL and where is NTSC. But...many(most?) DVD players have the capability to play both NTSC and PAL discs. And many(most?) DVD players have the capability to display to both NTSC and PAL televisions. ALL the above discussion applies ONLY to factory-pressed DVD's. For DVD's made on a computer or dvd burner, in DVD+/-R format, the PAL/NTSC does not exist. Oh...and the region code is a completely different thing, unrelated to NTSC/PAL. [Link] |
