On Friday, Warner announced that they had chosen Blu-ray over the porn-friendly HD-DVD.
Will the adult film industry follow, and release only to the expensive-to-replicate (and Sony, which owns Blu-ray, refuses to allow its facilities to be used to produce XXX titles) Blu-ray? Or will porn forge on and save the more consumer-friendly of the two hi-def formats?

Porn will save digital downloads. That should make Bill Gates very happy.

The adult-industry is already way behind to save anything at this point.

There are plants that will press XXX discs on Blu-ray. After being burned in the past by video tape replicators, Sony (and Disney) have contracts with replicators of all of their media, stating that any plant that produces content for them, can't also produce porn. If a replication company has multiple plants, there is nothing to stop them from replicating porn in one plant and Sony/Disney content in the other. It's just that one plant can't be used for both.
Eventually, the majority of the replicators that are pressing DVD's for the porn industry, will begin pressing Blu-ray and/or HD DVD. Like the early days of DVD, when not many replicators were capable of pressing dual layer discs, porn will get the short end of the stick for a while. But once the format war shakes itself out, which may have happened last week with Warner's announcement (to my dismay), the adult replicators will likely jump in with both feet.

I always thought porn has been the reason technology is developed.
I mean, would the internet be anywhere near as big without it?
As for HD, I reckon porn will stick to web downloads (as there is no issue with compatibility and all that jazz) until the format war Bill speaks of has leveled out.

I had my fun and that's all that matters.

DVDs will be just fine until the format war is decided... maybe even longer.
I can see high-end porn being worth the extra costs associated with Blu-ray, but, for 90% of the product being produced, it just won't matter. If it looks like crap now, it will make your dick shrivel and fall off in hi-def
