At any rate, a couple of thoughts occur to me in connection with this. First and foremost is that if he has to spy on his kids he's got bigger problems than what they're doing online. Futhermore, keeping track of what your kids are doing is one thing, but spying on them isn't likely to end well. It would be better to keep the computer in the family area so they have no expectation of privacy when using it and, if it comes to that, controlling access to it so a parent is always there when they're using the computer.

And if he doesn't know where to get a keylogger from, his kids are most likely so much more computer literate than he, that they'll just edit the log.

Whether the log will then contain things like "what to get for father's day", or something in the vein of "Menendez brothers, how did they do it?", depends on their sense of humour.
