I got the dvd perverted point of view #2. It just don't play any more. I tried to clean it, but no go. Even with some very minor scratches it should play some, but all my dvd players can't play it.

anybody got the same problem? or a solution? thanks

If the data isn't destroyed, grab some brasso and a cloth and polish in a radial direction(from the hole to the outside circ. like how pizza is sliced). It's been used as an effective plastic polish for ages and works as well as anything short of sending it to a professional.

if you're really daring, try 2000grit sandpaper and rubbing compound from autozone and its ilk---it's closer to what you'd pay for to have it restored since you're introducing radially-oriented scratches which somehow mesh with the error-correction lasers do

Have you tried playing it in a DVD-Rom? I sometimes find they are more forgiving than standalone players with problem discs.

sounds stupid but toothpaste is the easiest way to buff out scratches.

If you're going to try toothpaste, make sure it's the old-school white paste. It's not what you want to try first though--see if you can improve the reflective outermost layer with brasso, which works as a plastic polish. I've had better luck with auto rubbing compound/polishes, they're cheap, odorless and colorless and are designed not to damage polycarbonate, which is an issue with any toothpaste but the plain original colgate due to whitening agents, weird gimmicky crystals, etc.
