I tried to upload some photos and although it lets me do it,it does not give a preview of the image then when i included them in my post and clicked on preview it was only showing up as white boxes.

There's an intermittent network problem between the web server and the database server. I've opened a trouble ticket with my hosting provider. I'll need to add some error handling logic to the code that serves images. At the moment it assumes there's always a live database connection and doesn't gracefully fail if that connection isn't available.

Are the pictures really gone or just loading very slowly? At some of the times that people are reporting that the pictures are gone, they are there just loading extremely slowly for me.
