I know most of you here probably think Playboy blows anyway, but I've got to say it. I've subscribed to the magazine for several years now, but I'm not renewing this year because I'm sick of them featuring "nude" celebrities where you don't see anything. The last issue I got featured Tara Reid on the cover, but guess what, in the pictures she's either wearing panties or posing so you don't see any of her pubic area.
Why do they do this? Are they that hard up for readers that they'll agree when a woman says, "Okay, I'll pose nude as long as no one sees my privates"??? And they've been doing it for years now - Rachel Hunter, Jaime Pressley, Daryl Hannah, Shannen Doherty, etc. I know that's how they had to do it in the '50s and '60s, but we've come a long way, baby. Sheesh.

Playboy has never "recovered" from the content of the 1960's and early 1970's.
They were were always coy with celebrity nudity, and I have seen very little change in the last 40-50 years. Silly poses, highly retouched photos, scant nudity. If these women don't want to take it off, leave it to others. They ask for big bucks that Playboy pays, but they really don't deliver.
It's time to bury it along with the hula hoop, 78 RPM, rotary phones, and such old contraptions.

I agree I have not bought a copy of Playboy in several years, the issue with Tara Reid kind of sparked my interest again, but when I saw what the photo shoot contained I was once again dissapointed. They will always be able to make money featuring top name celebrities but they wont be getting of my hard earned money any time soon.

Those layouts in the 70s were great though.

Publications like Playboy have become passe' of a time gone bye.
In the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's they were a cut above the rest. They were the first men's magazine to feature celebrity nudity (starting with Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, etc). They were the first to feature full frontal if I am not mistaken (although it was a black model/actress).
They had thw wonderful "Sex in Cinema" series, and every James Bond movie had a pictorial of (unfortunately) lesser "starlets" doing some coy nudity.
With the advent of porn in the early 1970's, Playboy lost ground and other upstarts like Hustler and Penthouse pushed the envelope while Playboy stayed its course.
With the cost of an an issue of Playboy you can easily rent 2-3 adult DVDs from your local porn/video shop, and considering the content of a Playboy magazine would you throw your money on a Playboy magazine?. If it were to fold, there would not be too many peole in tears. The Playboy cable channel is even less alluring.
Stick a fork in it, it's done.

Tara Reid is a beautiful woman and have seen the photos on the internet and have also seen part of Tara's behind on the internet and there is not enough air brush paint to take away the celulite. Celulite is mostly genetic and the poor dear got more than her share. I say this knowing that I would quickly be on my knees begging for a bit of that ass, junk and all. Stop collecting Playboy in 84 and have bought less than a dozen issues {celebritys mostly} since. I believe Penthouse was showing bush before Playboy and Hustler was the first to go pink. Playboy used to sell 9 million but sell a little over 1 million now. Heard Hef's oldest son say "He wanted to take the magazine back to the 50's" which shows his mothers influence and how out of touch he is to reality. Charlize Theron was the last great celebrity photos I remember. I like photos sometimes because I ocassionaly freeze frame my DVD's. Would like the next publisher of Playboy to go pink but with the mess Penthouse is in that probably won't happen. They think they need to go softer when the answer is harder. Would like to see the January Playmate do a hardcore set in the February issue but that probably won't happen.

Last I heard the shareholders are suing Hefner, or are thinking about it, because he refuses to change things, and the stock is plumetting.

I have always enjoyed the celebrity layouts, but they never give you enough pictures. Teri Polo had a nice layout, and she was a great sport about the whole thing, but even though they showed bush, we got no real ass shots. Very disappointed.

You're not going to get too many celebrities to show "down there" photos because they probably got shaved bushes and they don't want to show any pussy lips. (And by celebrities I do not count the losers from "reality" shows).

If the yardstick is nude scenes in mainstream movies, traditional female movie stars have shown pretty much full bush. The only trimmed bushes are seen on the performers doing erotic/soft core movies.
So I don't think these "celebrities" are shy about showing their private parts because they are shaven, but rather it may have to do with a certain sense of prudishness, not wanting to go "all the way" and they probably don't get paid much more flashing their pussies and spreading their legs wide open. In other words, yes for nudity, but no open crotch shots. They want to maintain a certain sense of "modesty".

I think most actresses would be more willing to do nudity if the US wasn't such a prudish society these days, back in the 70s lots of the big actresses did nude scene (Fonda, Julie Christie, etc). Of course if they made better films that would help.

do they have plans to do hardcore? this will seriously get them out of the financial mess they are in.
they should have a hardcore version - it is not or never.

Their satellite division already has some hardcore channels, didn't help them though.

It's against their DNA and credo. It's like when Disney set up a separate entity to produce/release a "PG-13" movie. I really don't know what it did to their image in the short or long run.
And it was like asking Russ Meyer to do hard core movies. He had no really personal or professional interest in it.
And what hardcore content would they make or you be interested in seeing in a magazine in this day and age? They can barely get a "celebrity" to show naughty parts. What would get you to buy a Playboy magazine if it had hc content?

I can't stand the magazine or uncle Heff. There is nothing sexy about the way they photograph women.
They're more interested in selling pencil cases to young schoolgirls anyway... a cynical move if ever there was one. And the whole "ooo... if only I could get to the Playboy Mansion" bullshit: it's crass beyond belief.
Besides, why should I care about a few crappy pics of Tara Reid when I can have Tori Black be a beautiful slut for me any day?

Does anyone actually buy Hef trying to keep up his scam, ahem, "image" of still dating young girls? Okay, that question was rhetorical since I know no one here does.

Actually, I do buy it -- some women will do anything for money, and even with Playboy losing money, Hef has lots of it. Playboy is completely separate from the Hef fortune now. You can even buy shares of Playboy on the stock market!
