In the last few months I spent much more time watching porn than I had ever wanted. After a period of abstinence.
I am now consuming porn since about the year 2000. And I think I am some sort of a long time addict. Since I have wanted to stop so many times. And sweared to myself not to watch ever again. But each time I ended up watching again and again.

what are you not doing because you're too busy watching porn? do those things. then you can watch porn too without all the guilt.
that's my attitude with my pot smoking. if it demotivates me from doing things, then i make sure to do those thing... while high ;)

Don't be so flip. He is asking a serious question. In short, porn when combined with the internet CAN be very addictive. Everyone has their weakness, whether it be drugs, alcohol, tobacco, food or porn. Prior to the internet though, porn was not so readily available to consumers. Depending on where you lived, you had to go to some seedy part of town or slink into some place you didn't want your friends or family seeing you enter. The internet introduced privacy and efficiency to the process. Unfortunately, if porn is your weakness, this was the worst possible thing that could have happened. Your weakness, rather than being on the other side of town, was just a mouse click away.
Do you have a problem? Ask yourself this simple question. Do you ever search for porn to the exclusion of more important activities (working, eating properly, exercising, etc.)? If so, then yes, you have a problem.
If it is interfering with work or other things like that then I would say you do have problem but with me I have been watching porn since I was 14 and now I am 35 I like to watch it because of the different women you get to see. Because if every man could fuck every woman he was attracted to he would but most sane men know that is not possible so we watch porn.
I'm sure Tyra would spring for therapy cuz she's real like that, Springer would bring in your cousins neice that's been watching you through the crack in the curtains. Oprah might exploit your addiction in a group session on stage. Dr Phil, well does anyone care what that bloated hot air ballon says?
Have you tried the porno patch??? I understand those are pretty effective.
Cal444 Somewhere thinkin Are my emotions being toyed with here?
Is this spam for dirtboxbitches...or r u serious about looking for counsel because of a constant undying love affair with whore(-scenarios) and the palms of your hands?
There are sites to place your query, but of course Swiss dude, this is not it. All here are wankers and proud of it.
If you're serious, my take on it is that pleasure is very addictive and being dudes, we have a biological propensity toward dreaming about it. Porno is the dream fulfillment of the male psyche in a world without much free expression of erotic territory. We've capped off our liberal use of sharing pleasure/eroticism for outdated socio-religious designs. And since few of us have the money to consistently spend on paying others to spank us, we're left with elbow arthritis and high lube bills. In fact...believe me I know personally...that many entered this trade of making porno, because of being addicts.
Balance in all things Swiss guy. Until there's a resurgence of '60's style free-sex again (and I pray every day for it), you need to GET IN CONTROL. First, switch hands from time to time because that elbow thing is a doosey. Then back off and find other things to focus on from time to time. Break it up a little. Quit spending eight hours straight frying your retna's. Get a friend to hike with you in those killer Swiss Alps to take you away from the DVD player once in awhile, if not once a day. Then slow down on the porn consumption by only buying the real good shit...like Evil Angel titles. Spank less with killer porn!
If these aren't helpful you got two other possibilites. Focus on getting rich (which will take you away from the monitors) so you can hire professionals to help you with your self-professed problem. Or start making porno for the internet. Everybody else is....
Whatever you do, make each moment count Swiss fella! You don't want to be on your death bed remembering nothing but the dark haired Latina from Volume 47 of Ed Powers Dirty Debutantes. Or do you?
No, I've never said to myself "right, I'm never going to watch porn again" I've certainly said to myself "don't jerk off today, leave it another day or two and it'll be even better"
I've been watching porn since about 1995/1996. Must have been about 14 or 15 when I watched my Dad's first porno (one of Ben Dover's). He didn't mind at all. In fact, he encouraged me to watch it and thought it would be much better for me to watch porn then those violent 18 rated films I used to watch at the time
Looking back, I agree with him completely. Give me a good porn over a violent film any day!
These days, almost any kind of thing that a person has trouble controlling in his/her life -- or almost any kind of thing that someone in a person's life wishes that they would do less of -- gets called that person's "addiction".
However, there's a specific medical model for "addiction", which is much stricter than that.
There's also a specific psychological model for obsession/compulsion, which is stricter as well.
Then there's guilt, shame, ideology, and power-plays within relationships.
as long as it does not interfere with the everday things you have to do to live a regular life, i consider it a healthy addiction, just another form of entertainment.
I've been "consuming" porn since I was 16. But I also get tired of it. I tend to go through ebbs and flows when it's a big deal and when I simply don't care much.
If you're really worried about it, get counselling. Talk to a professional about it, since the root problem isn't the porn, it's your compulsion to watch it. It's possible your compulsions may be bothering you in other areas as well--so if you can take charge of your life in this area, you may find yourself in better control in other areas as well.
Another alternative: send us everything you have and we'll review it to see if it's really a problem or not. ;)
People need sex like they need food. If you decide you've been eating too many hamburgers the answer isn't to quit eating. You have to eat something else instead.
Likewise, if you aren't getting your sexual release from porn you've got to get it somewhere else. If you refuse to go get laid then it's no surprise you end up back watching porn.
I don't consider porn an addiction. I consider it a hobby. Other people can spend enormous amounts of time and money on things and have it considered to be a legitimate hobby. Why can't we?
On the other hand, if you REALLY want to quit watching and you can't, I don't know what to say...except for that you may be wanting to quit for the wrong reasons (In other words, someone else wants you to quit or you want to quit because you feel guilty or something). I would think that if you really wanted to stop, it wouldn't be all that difficult. Somewhere, in there, there's some part of you that doesn't really want to stop. And then, there's the issue of masturbation. Masturbation is a lifelong thing for most men (as long as they can get it up). Even if you stop watching porn (assuming you're male), you're still probably gonna want to masturbate. Many of us need suitable fantasy material for masturbation (My imagination stopped being that good when I realized technology could do most of the work for me and I was working much harder than I needed to).
If you don't have porn when you masturbate, won't you miss it?
I'm obsessive about so many things that I seem unable to become addicted, I can't drink just ONE beer, but I don't NEED any... and I can't look at my entertainment collection without thinking of all the things I don't have...
I do believe porn addiction can be very strong, when a shipment of porn arrives at my door, it's a good day no matter what.
Normally, when I'm expecting a shipment of porn, I eagerly await in the kitchen, watching and listening out for the postman and that lovely sound of brass knocking against wood
I think that for many men, porn is a form of misplaced desire--in other words, rather than seeing sexual media as a particular and unique erotic experience, they just use it as a substitute for sexual interaction with another person. Which is fine. But when that substitute turns into a permanent condition--the only way of getting through your sexual life--this pattern of endlessly misplaced desire becomes a kind of self-imposed deprivation, leading to a life of isolation, depression, frustration, and intense loneliness. If this description fits you, Swiss (and your not just guilty about watching porn for social/religious reasons or because you feel you should be finding more constructive things to do with your time), then you might have a problem.
Maybe living a "life of isolation, depression, frustration, and intense loneliness," is why we choose porn... and not the way you perceive it?
I didn't choose porn over something... I choose it instead of nothing.
Whether or not I ever watched porn the rest of my life, I would still live a "life of isolation, depression, frustration, and intense loneliness" by conventional standards. Why those of us who "learned the truth, At Seventeen" should be expected to subject ourselves to the cruelty of a society with which we don't fit in, escapes me.
Looking for sex -- the whole game which is the male/female dynamic if you will -- has caused me nothing but the deepest, most painful experiences of my life. Insanity has been defined as doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. Well, I'm now 50, and I'm done with the perpetual road to insanity thank-you-very-much.
Porn is a means to get off. It has also become a very satisfying hobby. No guilt; no apologies.
Very interesting Laz and BB...and like many threads, this has most probably been a post subject from the past, and we'll hit all the same points from before...but did anyone ever think about the objectification of women that we are obviously completely caught up with...how, just maybe, seeing gals in positions predominately submissively bent over and spread wide, as vessels of degradation and deflowerment, while we masturbate ad infinitum, is perhaps going to add more advanced social disfunction to an already fuck-up world? (I really don't believe it, but need to play devil's advocate since I do believe that this is a real issue with at least half of everyone that surfs here....)
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this hobby, as BB notably put it. But we have to ask ourselves, like our Swiss coutnerpart, what are the repurcussions of a life spent alone with a greasy remote in one hand and our well-lubed stiffys in the other...? Hey, I personally have no regrets and somehow feel the massive hours spent jerkin the gerkin were actually well spent - pleasure is a good way to pass the time...but still, awareness is a damn good thing too. I'm very okay with being a sex addict - but not okay with being self-delusional. When and where is our hobby unhealthy? Swiss guy wants to know....
P.S. I don't mean to get so heavy...and I DO NOT find myself secretively leering at every short skirt from years of porn consumption - I'm quite sure I'd leer if I hadn't seen so much filth and depravety.
as long as it does not interfere with the everday things you have to do to live a regular life, i consider it a healthy addiction, just another form of entertainment.
And RichB and Lazarus are right as well.
My hobby is porn as well and I'm even happly married w/ a good sex life... But I grave for porn, love surf the web for it and masturbate and she doesn't (I suppose) know. I even chat about (msn simverk@hotmail.com) exchange pics and movies w/ other guys while...you know. (Thx for your link w/Tianna Swiss, if you wanna ad me go ahead):). I have to say it comes and goes, sometimes when I feel down or stressed I "escape" in porn. Or wake up on a saturday morning as now with a hard on leave my wife sleeping and look where my fantasy can be met. And I know that I have to be aware of the full addiction where it would overrule my live or even my marriage. So a healthy addiction is what I call mine as I don't smoke or do drugs. I simply love these beautiful porn girls showing of their addiction to porn...:)
I can control my urges for porn but I did have a related addiction back in college. Where I grew up, blondes were quite rare. In college, I was exposed to many of them and thus I spent many nights fucking the shit out of these blonde shiksas. :-) It actually got in the way of my education because I wasn't studying for exams.

+1 if people feel so guilty maybe they should stop but for me its a harmless individual activity i get to take advantage of 2-3 times per week and very much enjoy it.. if i am occupied doing other regular stuff or don't get that alone time at my place then it doesn't cross my mind. i wouldn't call it an addiction but more of a masterbation tool, you can't play tennis without a racket right? :D

All things in moderation. Jerking off to porn 2 or 3 times a week is not an addiction. Jerking off to it a dozen or so times a day, every day, is. Having it consume your thoughts during virtually every single moment of the day, is. Preferring porn to the development of a true intimacy with another person, is. If you haven't, follow the the link in my last post to the former pornstar Penny Flame's blog www.becomingjennie.com and read about her struggle overcoming sex and drug addiction and I think you will gain a better understanding of the problem of sex addiction. Edited by - Clam Digger on 4/13/2010 12:37:44 PM
hey Clam Digger, thanks for posting this. I love Jennie- what a sweetheart she is! And this coming from someone who never really got off to her porn stuff. I did watch the sex clinic show though and is where I learned of her addiction, like most. OK. I know... So here's my on topic rant: Jennie nails it with the statement you quoted: It's an Intimacy Disorder. When I went to a therapist she asked me if I knew this and I finally realized as as replied, "yes, I know", that someone had actually found the answer. I ruined 2 marriages by not being able to retain the hots for my woman. My 2nd wife & I talked about this a lot and she told me it wasn't a problem(the porn) until I wanted it more than her. Porn pleases me in physical & emotional ways. I didn't find it AS pleasing to have sex with my wife anymore, so I cut her off physically & emotionally, essentially. Both wives eventually realized, hey this guy doesn't need me, he's got porn to turn to when he has a ____ day. I live alone now again and watching porn a lot more, but there's no guilt associated anymore, since I don't have the need to hide it from a partner. I have lady friends (and I respect the ladies)and can talk and hangout with them, but I can't get intimate with them, or I'll wind up hurting them. If I really wanted to, I could learn to stay intimate, but it would have to be with a woman who knows the struggle it would be for both of us. SAA and therapists can only lead you in the direction you want to go, if you want to quit, but it takes you and your partner to develop intimacy and keep it dear. And that is the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would say.
Jennie's perspective is interesting, but I don't believe it proves anything. First of all, her issue wasn't addiction to porn, her problem was relating men. Her problems, the way I understand them, was in dealing with potential love interests, which she couldn't, she chose to use sex as a means to connect but did not share her feelings nor deal with her psychological issues. That does not relate directly to guys watching pornography by themselves. Her problem was not really about porn, or even sex, it was about relating to others and dealing with her insecurities. If you really want to link these topics, then the relevant point would be that you don't really get addicted to sex or porn, what happens is you get a hangup on something as a means to avoid dealing with a completely different psychological problem.

Did you miss what she wrote?
Sex, porn, over eating addictions/compulsions, whatever, are all fruit of the same tree. If one is wanking off to porn or thinking about it 24/7 there is a problem. If one would rather be alone and satisfy themselves, then enjoy a real intimate relationship, there is a problem. If one is controlled by the "disorder" instead of "controlling" it, there is a problem.
Nope I didn't miss it, I just replied in general against the notion that there is such a thing as "sex addiction" and that she commented on sex addiction, which she didn't. But I did probably miss some of the context from skipping parts of this thread. Looks like most of us would agree that Tiger Woods is full of shit with his addiction excuses, its not like being hooked on heroin. Edited by - johnw on 4/25/2010 3:28:30 PM
yep, i might not be a addict but when i do have my porn sessions go for endurance so im well satisified after. i know first hand amphetamines and sex addition go hand in hand :) if you can stop the gear and properly come down off it then you will no longer be in the mood for sex several times a day, its easy for some but of course a loads of people just can't help themselves until they eventually hit rock bottom
I've asked myself this same question. Am I a porn addict? I absolutely love watching porn and getting myself off. Some days its all I can think about. I do enjoy fucking my girlfriend, but we don't do it frequently. Porn is a way to enjoy all my (naughty) fantasies without going outside of my relationship to do it. That being said I do prefer it sometimes to real sex when things get too routine. That sounds like a problem and I do feel guilty sometimes. On the other hand, I dont need to do it every day. I can go through periods where Im just too busy or too tired to jack off. If you want to get away from watching porn, or feel it is becoming an addiction that is interfering with your life, then get busy. A lot of the time my porn watching starts from boredom - not horniness. If you hang out with friends, go for bike rides, play sports or work then chances are you wont be doing it watching porn. There are weeks when im not bored or have access to porn, and i dont miss it at all. This is why I feel that i dont have an unhealthy dependency. When I get horny and want to watch porn, I like to spend hours upon hours doing it. So for me, if I dont have a lot of time to sit and enjoy typing one handed, I usually dont bother at all. If you really feel like you have a problem and its stopping you from doing other things, affecting your work/livelihood or hurting your real relationships then you should seek out professional counseling. Porn is a wonderful thing, but there are more important things. Keep a good perspective and be able to look at yourself and your behavior honestly and you'll know what to do. Dont be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Im sure it is a VERY common addiction.
Until your girl gets pregnant and you've got 18 years to think about how much better it would have been if you could have just cleaned that mess up with a tissue.
I've struggled with the "Am I a porn addict" question. And the truth is, I'm not sure. I don't think being addicted is a matter of how much you enjoy porn, what kind of porn you're in into or even how frequently you in indulge. I think the question is, "Have you stopped trying to have sex in real life". Have you in a sense just given up and allowed porn to bec ok me your only sexual outlet? In my own case I would say no, not yet. However, I will admit that there are times when I just don't want to deal with the effort and rejection and just prefer to stay at home with the substance of my choice and watch some of my favorite performers and acts.
It's important to avoid the pseudoscientific language of the porn addiction industry. The reasoning described above (basically, you can't be bothered with irl interactions and all that comes along with it) seems pretty understandable to me and quite familiar in other contexts (people can't be bothered to see their friends, choosing instead to interact on social media or watch Netflix). If you feel unfulfilled, then grapple with that. No need to call it an addiction.
Okay, well here is what I will tell you and everyone. Porn Addiction is real. People think it's not? Try to not watch it for two weeks. Hell go one week. Not even allowed to look at it.
I'm not an anti-porn crusader. I love Naughty America and Brazzers. Sara Jay is a fucking hot ass MILF who I would give anything to have a romp in the sack with. However, too much porn can be a bad thing and I am proof of that. I was a twenty eight year old with erectile dysfunction. I had no physical issues. It was all mental. Porn induced Erectile Dysfunction is a real thing. Do you have trouble sometimes maintaining an erection when with a person of the opposite sex? Does changing positions sometimes result in the loss of erection if you don't get it back in fast enough? Do you find it difficult to ejaculate while having intercourse, but not porn? If you answer yes to any of these, then there is an issue. It took me a little bit of time, but once I was able to stay away from porn for long periods of time and just be with my partner, I was able to become functional in the bedroom again.
I still have issues with ED from time to time. Sometimes it's not maintaining the erection that's an issue. Sometimes it's being able to orgasm in a timely manner. I'll find myself going for 30 to 40 minutes before I reach ejaculation. That's the desensitization to my brain from too much porn.
So if anyone on here thinks porn addiction isn't real, then try going a week or two without it. Don't even view pornographic pictures or masturbate. Then after the two weeks try masturbating without porn and see if you can get the job done.
Oh, please, I could go the rest of my life without watching another porn video and I'd be fine.
Do you try to kill people whenever you get angry at them? If not, then you have control over your medulla oblongata, and you have control over your porn consumption. Whether you choose to exercise that control is another matter.
