What I see is that the reduction in profits caused by all this internet 'sharing' is driving the market toward new faces, period. There's no incentive to do more than make the cheapest movies possible if they're going to be posted 'for free' on the internet the day you release them. There's no incentive to develop a star because there's no return on that investment. All the 'fan boyz' will share your movie with their internet buddies for free, and the extra investment in a star won't garner you one extra dime. Unlike the mainstream media, pornographers can't offer a 'movie going experience' that you can go to your megaplex and enjoy with all your friends. They depend on individual sales, and that is exactly the market that all this internet piracy is killing. [Link] |

Next month we'll be releasing the follow up, Vouyer Media's Taxi: A Hardcore Parody. And this week, we're releasing the largest project of Jack Napier's career, It's Big, It's Black, It's Jack #10, which pairs the actor/director up with fourteen starlets. The franchise has received the AVN award for Best Interracial Series for the last two years in a row (2009 / 2010) and this is the most ambitious entry yet in the series. Details can be found here. The best store (in it's heyday) was moving 250-300 rentals out the door per day + sales, on Fridays and Saturdays they would do more like 500. When they opened at 10:00am there were7 or 8 people sitting in the parking lot waiting for them to open the doors...on a weekday! This was when DVD's had just exploded and VHS was still hanging around. They had a wide range of customers. People in their 20's all the way up to the old folks. If you go there now the rentals have dropped drastically...they're completely dead. Nowhere near the numbers they used to do. VHS died. And you won't find anyone under the age of 40 in the stores anymore. Why? because people in that age bracket are all tech/internet savy. Anything they want they can download for free. It used to be if people were going to copy a scene or two or even the whole movie to keep for themselves (VHS days or early DVD days) you'd at least et the rental out of them, now even that is gone. Add in the fact that porn in general got way too comfortable churning out the same old shit week after week, month after month. No originality whatsover. The old star based system was gone. Didn't need a star to sell a movie anymore...just new girls. There were a few exceptions of course like Jenna Jameson and a couple of others but in general you didn't need the star to sell your flick anymore, just plenty of young girls and lots of anal. After awhile I would hear people complain that studios are just churning out the same movie over and over again with girls that are here today gone tomorrow, if this months flicks are the same as last months, why should I shell out the cash? And then the directors began believing they were the stars, not the girls. The fuckin' idiot behind the camera was talking through entire scenes. Shut the fuck up and shoot the scene, don't want to hear your blabbering when a beautiful girl is getting fucked. All those comps that people are talking about are there because it's cheap. All they do is repackage old scenes in a new case, that's it. There's still good stuff out there. Evil and Elegant Angel, 3rd Degree, Zero Tolerance etc. but the glory days are gone. There's still money to be made on the toy end of things, that's something I don't think will ever change, but it's a different business. Way more overhead, space issues etc. It's just very different. Most of the movie stores in my area are gradually shifting to sales more than rentals or just closing all together. Selling titles that are a few years old still sealed really cheap. Tons of really good movies from well known studios being sold really fuckin' cheap.
