My apologies if I have the wrong forum for this posting. Please move accordingly. With the revelation of the past couple of days that HD DVD is no longer a supported format what will be the future of porn in Hi Def? I know some studios have released some Blu Ray discs, but most,including my favorite studio Wicked Pictures, have only been releasing in HDDVD. Does anyone have any information as to a timetable or even if Blu Ray will become the adopted Hi Def option for the future. My assumption is that being that Blu Ray has won out that studios will start going to Blu Ray soon. Any insight, release dates, or other information would be appreciated. I think that, for the most part, the answer to this question will depend on when the replicators who work for the adult companies install the equipment necessary to replicate Blu-ray discs. One of the big advantages that HD DVD had over Blu-ray, as far as replicators were concerned, is that, they only needed up upgrade existing equipment to press HD DVD's and that equipment could be used to press both DVD and HD DVD. It's necessary to install completely new equipment to press Blu-ray discs. The other problem that adult companies had with Blu-ray had to do with which mainstream companies have been on the Blu-ray bandwagon since the beginning. Because of problems that both Sony and Disney had back in the VHS days, their contracts with replicators prevent those replicators from doing adult work in the same facilities that they do work for Sony and/or Disney. Given the small number of Blu-ray replicators currently out there, finding a replicator with a plant that doesn't do any work for Sony or Disney has proven to be difficult. Now that Blu-ray has won the battle, there's no reason that more replicators won't jump into the Blu-ray market. My guess is that we'll probably start seeing a lot more titles on Blu-ray sometime this summer.

the future of all porn including hi-def is VOD only the truly technically challeneged buy HD-DVD or BRD I have a 1TB media server with wireless keyboard and mouse hooked to my 1080P HDTV, it has wireless internet and interfaces to my cable DVR...sees it just like a disk drive...it also plays H.264 in hardware, and it cost me less than a playstation 3 but lets assume you think Im full of it...you notice that PS3s have internet connectivity? are extansable storage wise? play H.264? hard media is simply a stop gap VOD is not just the future...its the present.

dual processor windows vista home premium 500GB drive, wireless keyboard and mouse, 2GB RAM,NVidia 8600GT 329.00 at the asian computer store near me added a second 500GB drive, 129.00 plays 1080P with processor running at less than 20% (thanks to NVIDIA hardware implementation of H.264) I can even use it to edit AVCHD real time, prety slick considering the low cost Vista sucks hard but its yer only choice anymore.
You are gonna need a heck of a lot more storage than a terabyte to store even a modest digital collection with the same level of quality as Blu-ray. Not to mention an insanely fast internet connection to make it actually convenient. We are talking monster 25-50GB files here. If you want the absolute best presentation, physical media is still the ticket. It probably will be for the next 5-10 years. By the way, this technically challenged idiot just purchased Quasar's Bree Olson HD DVD(on a now dead format no less) and I actually look forward to receiving it.

Have been in the computer biz since 1978 and having worked at NASA/Cape Canveral/KSC it always amuse me when someone makes a statement about where technology will be in 5 to 10 years, I currently have 12Mb and soon 32Mb symmetrical will be available here. Im finding that 1080P H.264 looks fabulous and occupies only slightly more space than a DVD9. Theres a good reason all the higher end video products include H.264. and BTW I have yet to see an HD implementation of a porn that utilizes a dual layer disk most dont even fill a single layer even if you do include all the useless extras. Enjoy your HD-DVD it'll make a nice small boat anchor before long.
Mike, I am talking about MAINSTREAM acceptance in 5-10 years. The majority of people in this country still don't have ANY HD display or fast access internet(let alone Blu-ray or huge media servers). I really don't care that HD DVD is dead because Blu-ray is superior tech imo. However, that does not mean my HD DVD collection will suddenly burst into smoke. They will still play. Wanting to own something that is actually tangible is not going away anytime soon.
Full HD VOD (1080p at a similar quality/bitrate as Blu-Ray) is not even a daydream for most people atm. Mainstream acceptance/penetration of HD VOD as a media delivery medium? Maybe in five to eight years? If even then. The march of technological progress is inevitable but I think in ten years from now there will still be a significant number of people who simply *must* have a physical copy (be it either optical/SSD/Flash based) of a product before they commit to buying one to own. This is especially true for collectors, they are not just buying the movie but also the package, everything around the movie. I think one arena where VOD will triumph in the future is rentals/subscription based IPTV services. People accept significantly lower quality there just for the sake of convenience.
I wonder if blu-ray porn will be region free like DVD's are. I mean I buy all my porn from the US so it must be region free because I don't see any region free blu-ray players yet. I mean at least that was the great thing about HD-DVD, you didn't have to worry about that!
Even though BDA (Blu-Ray Disc Association) does not mandate that the discs themselves must be of a certain region, the functionality for that is built in to the specification. Region free players, heh, I do not think we are going to see any of them that soon... As long as Sony controls the manufacturing of BD laser assemblies any company daring to make a region free BD player is simply asking for a major nose bleed. Even making one that is too easily hackable (software hack etc.) would most likely lead to revoking of their manufacturing license topped with a lawsuit. Edited by - horn on 2/25/2008 1:30:32 PM
