You could go for a motorised system, which would require a larger dish, a polar mount and actuator (old fashioned but possibly still the best method) or diseqc motor mount (newer, more convenient, but slower and potentially less robust method).

IMO, a fixed dish system would be more than sufficient; it is easier to install, less expensive, more robust/offers greater longevity than a motorised system, no delay switching between channels (as you would get when moving between different satellites with a motorised system) etc., but less channels - Hotbird has lots anyway, so you pays your money…

Hotbird has, by far, the greatest number of adult channels on a single satellite, and you could add additional offset LNBs on a fixed dish to receive the signal from nearby satellites e.g. Astra 19 or Astra 28 (where $KY resides). You would then use a diseqc switch to automatically, and instantly, select the different satellites when you select different channels (Check out www.lyngsat.com for channel lists for pretty much every satellite in the world). Hotbird also has “Telesierra” and “Majadahonda TV” which both show FTA (Free To Air) Hardcore (with ads and other obstructions) and lots of soft (frontal nudity only) and medium core (open leg pussy, mild masturbation etc.) FTA channels with telephone ads etc.

Also, have a look at the English magazine What Satellite – it has further satellite info. and lots of adverts showing the adult channel subscriptions, satellite equipment retailers etc. which will give you an idea of cost.

I have looked in that 'What Satellite' in the past but it didn't make it clear exactly what i would need to buy.

Are you saying that basically it is three components + cabling:
a dish
a receiver
a conditional access module

Is that right?

what exactly is the role of the receiver and the CAM? what would happen if you didn't have a CAM, would you pick up nothing or is the cam like a descrambler? Would an Irdeto cam allow me access to Sky (with the appropriate card)? Lastly, although it was a couple of years ago when I read 'what satellit' I'm sure I remember a lot of references to Dmac or something but I couldn't really work out what it was?

No, you also require an LNB (Low Noise Block) – this is the component which attaches to the end of the dish arm, and collects the signal reflected by the dish, which is then fed down the cable to the receiver.

Put simply, the receiver ‘receives’ the signal and processes it to produce an AV signal for display on a TV – FTA channels will be displayed without any additional equipment.
For encrypted channels, you require a CAM (unless the receiver has an embedded (built in) CAM). Some CAMs have the relevant information contained on them to fully decrypt a channel, but, usually, a card is also required. The CAM is placed into the receiver’s CI (Common Interface) slot, and the card is placed into the CAM.

No, $KY uses Videoguard encryption, and they have made sure that no Videoguard CAMs are available, which means the only way to view encrypted $KY channels is to use their own ‘digibox’ receivers. You would be able to view the FTA channels from $KY, assuming you can actually receive signals from Astra 2 satellite @ 28 degrees East.

I think you may be referring to D2-Mac – this is not relevant for digital satellite.

As I mentioned, Irdeto is probably the most commonly used encryption for the adult channels, but it’s sensible to decide which channel(s) you are interested in and check what type of encryption they use, then get that type of CAM.
