Chodemaster- if you are using final cut pro canon actually has a plugin that is a free download from there site where you can use log and transfer feature for canon dslr footage. As it gets imported it does the encoding for you, great tool.

Just realized my Follow Focus won't let me put my T2i on my Habbycam shouldermount because the gear is too big and rubs up against the mount. that fucking sucks.

Got my Zoom h4n in today with a Redhead windscreen and will be shooting my first 100% DSLR film this weekend for a 48 hour film race contest thats in my area.
Also, my Super 8 project from last semester is getting screened at the festival and i'm VERY excited to say the least. They're screening a lot of stuff but this is the first time something of mine is going to be screened, so I'm psyched. All the 48 hour film race films will be screened and judged as well. Should be awesome.

I know next to nothing about video but have done work in radio in the past and can say that anything that doesn't have an XLR input is substandard in my opinion. Zooms get the job done for streeters (but there are better options out there even for that) but otherwise are not that great imo.

What about Log and Transfer feature in FCE? Doesn't it work for you?

I use a program called Grinder from Magic Bullet. You just drag and drop all of your files and it automatically converts them to prores.

This has an XLR input on it. The h4n is probably the most highly reviewed recorder that I've seen and it was only $300, which is a damn good deal. I believe that industry people have said in this thread that this is the mic they use.

Can't you only use prores on Final Cut Studio though? That's what I thought at least.

Just tried the Log and Transfer feature in FCE and it wouldn't let me import the file. Tried dragging it to the part of the window it says to drag media to and it wouldn't accept the file. I just tried to import a file that i haven't messed with into FCE and am rendering it as we speak and am gonna see if it still gives me problems. Maybe they did an update for FCE where it doesn't have problems with the files anymore. I shall see in about 5 minutes or so. :)

For $300 that's solid, but there are better mics and equipment out there is all I'm saying. No offense to anyone posting here, but sound recording doesn't tend to be the strong suit of most modern porn.

Very true. There's always better stuff out there, but this is what I can afford at the moment. haha. No offense taken or anything man.
I worked on a short film for a local Film Festival over the weekend that was written, shot, and edited in 48 hours. It was shot on my T2i in 1080p and we used the h4n for sound and it came out pretty solid. We had some problems in conversion and the only copy I have is in standard def. I've got the raw files but I'm not the one who edited it and I don't feel like editing that whole damn thing just to put it in HD. Next time I (we) know how to do shit correctly. We learned from it and that's the cool thing. That was my first dip into the world of making a short film solely on a DSLR. Pretty awesome experience and I can't wait to do it again.
Any new porn stuff being shot on DSLRs or anything?

I wonder what the recent features A Little Romance and The Sex Files 1 and 2 were shot on, as they look really good.

Chodemasterj - I don't know how much adult content you've shoot, but I think Will Disanto's comments above are spot on. He's shooting with three cameras at the same time to get his footage plus recording sound separately. That requires a crew all working together. This is not like filming a documentary with a single camera. To capture the action live and have various angles and tight/med/tele shots to edit and make sure you capture EVERYTHING (you'll be surprised how easy it is to miss the money shot) is difficult. Trying to deal with talent (including uncooperative cocks) and shoot adult content by yourself is like being a one-armed wallpaper hanger. It's more than a full time job even without having to worry about follow focus etc. The look is spectacular, but the work/crew is demanding to say the least. Don't let the technology ruin the sex!

I know the new Silence of the Lambs parody was done on a DSLR because I asked Mike in the thread.

That's so weird that FCE will accept h.264 without any problems, yet Studio/Pro has to have a plug-in to work. I tested out footage from my cam on FCE and didn't have any problems, while my friend with FCP couldn't convert the finished edit to a Quicktime movie. Retarded.
Rod, I haven't shot any adult content on a DSLR. I haven't shot any adult content at all actually. I've thought about it but kinda wanna hold off and see if i can get a mainstream career going. I've contacted some girls/trannys off of BackPage about doing solo stuff but I haven't got a response or anything.
It would be extremely hard to shoot it on just one DSLR and record sound separately and everything. It was hard trying to do that for just a simple narrative film the other day. It does take a team and a lot of pre-planning and teamwork to pull it off. If you can though, I think it looks amazing. DSLRs aren't the 'Win All' answer to cameras and filming, but in some instances I think they prove more useful and creative than a regular HDV that people tend to use in porn. Ability to shoot in low light with fast lenses and higher ISOs and being able to use razor thin shallow focus really comes in handy sometimes.
How do you usually find people to shoot, Rod?

Here's the forever-a-while music video for Angel of Sona shot on a new Sony Alpha A65. He used three Sony lenses, Sony 35mm f1.8, Sony 50mm f1.8, and Sony 17-105mm f3.5-5.6
