Without the ‘fans’ the porn industry wouldn’t look the same as it does today. You wouldn’t have ‘stars’ in the same extent and they wouldn’t have the same attraction from the general media (press, TV, movies, music) as some ‘stars’ has today.

I have attended a few erotic shows both in the US and in Europe.

I must say that some ‘fans’ scares me as well with a distorted view of women , where many tend to think that that all women are whores and worth nothing at all. Some men are really disrespectful to the ‘stars’ at these shows with their patronizing comments.

But most ‘fans’ are really good people who just enjoy watching adult movies.

I myself have two University degrees, have a really good job that I enjoy, make good money, have a social life with lots of friends, I’m healthy and enjoy life to the fullest but I enjoy watching a porno every now and then. Does that make me a freak or a loser? Hell no!

To be honest I am pretty impressed by the girls that take the decision to start doing porn movies since it takes a huge amount of guts to do what they do considering the public view on this occupation. Just imagine how their friends or family will react!

Being a porn actress is just an occupation (even though a very special one). We don’t know shit regarding their real life persona except we might get a glimpse by watching ‘behind the scenes’ material.

But several authors have valid points though:

I have met several female porn stars that have been quite rude, with a superior attitude, and no respect whatsoever that I as a fan is a huge part of their success.

Some people then said that this way of handling the fans is common within the music industry or general movie industry as well. I have no experience from the general movie industry but I have plenty experience from the music industry. Most artists and bands are REALLY cool to their fans , spending time with them backstage, hanging out, signing material, and writing autographs among other things. Many of them also answers posts on message boards, e-mails and interacts with the fans in a way just a few porn stars do since they know that they have everything in the world to gain by doing this.

Also some other things worth mentioning:
Many adult actresses post on boards like this one when they are new and act very buddy like to the fans. Then as soon as they get a huge contract they are gone and nowhere to be seen. Talk about forgetting their roots.

There are two adult actresses I think handle their fans in a perfect way:
Katin – one of the funniest, smartest, coolest chicks in the business and she is deeply missed by me. Really took her time to answer e-mails and overall she seems to be girl you would like to know since you know you would have a blast in her company!

Devinn Lane – really down to earth, takes time to answer e-mails, really polite and actually seem to care about her fans!

Some female actresses I would like to give big thumbs up to include:
Devon
Jill Kelly
Star E. Knight – really cool chick, awesome music taste as well, but her career was so short!
Kylie Ireland
Jenna Haze – really cool at first, took her time to spend time with her fans on her Yahoo! Group just to disappear when she stopped doing guys.

Some of them have had a bad attitude, which might have been caused by several factors. Someone might have been rude to them and then when they see a happy, smiling guy asking for their autograph, expressing his gratitude of their work they are not their true selves. Understandable but not fun when it happens to you, right?

Finally and some people might find this silly. If a colleague at work does a good job, I let them know what I think. If an artist or a band has done a great album I let them know my thoughts and in 90% of the cases you get an answer. I like to have interaction going on between the fan and the artist and many artists appreciate this as well.

If I like an adult director’s or an adult actress work I like to tell them this. If I have any questions about how they got started, their first movie and the possibility to buy signed DVDs I ask them directly through the official paths they offer (like their own sites, AIM, YIM, MySpace page or whatsoever).

I understand that they most likely get a zillion messages each days, many of them really freaky as well but it would be fun if you could get at least one reply once.

Teagan Presley - had this ‘I am much more superior than you...’ attitude when I met her. I hate that.

Flower Tucci – showed a really cocky attitude at a fair, but it might just have been a bad day. She doesn’t answer any messages at all at her MySpace profile regarding possibility to buy signed DVDs.

Krystal Steal – wanted to take a photo of her and myself since after all she is a real beauty but she said no without any further explanation. I didn’t want to argue.

Hillary Scott – stood in line since I wanted a DVD signed starring her, a photographer came by wanted to shoot some pictures of her and well I could forget to get it signed. Not fun for me, but great for her since it shows she is popular!

Tiana Lynn - same as above actually + she doesn’t reply any messages at her MySpace profile.

Christie Lee – have contacted her through her MySpace site and asked if it was possible to buy and signed DVDs from her since I really enjoyed watching her movies. Nada, zipp, zero replies.

Melissa Lauren – see above.

But I still like their work and I am still a huge fan of all the stars mentioned. Life is too short to be grumpy about things like this!

My impression -- and this coming from a girl who has never met a porn star in person or attended a porn convention -- is that these people in the business at these conventions are so sought after by fans and pretty much everyone else who wants a piece of them (rhetorically as well) that they probably get pulled every which way for several days straight and it can be hard trying to meet every single individual who wants to not just meet but talk to you/get an autograph/picture/whathaveyou, let alone being polite and appreciative each time. As much as I would love to meet a few of my own favorites, I wouldn't be too disappointed if I didn't because I think I can understand what it must be like for them at these things, and being in such high demand. Especially people like Flower and Hillary, both of which are rising stars and gaining a bigger fan core each day.

I don't personally know most of the girls mentioned above, but there is always a chance that they were having a bad day or had just had a bad encounter with a "fan". I know I have...I enjoy meeting almost everyone at signings and conventions but it can take one innapropriate asshole to make us a little defensive.

One of my best examples of this happened 2 years ago at the ECV show. I had a line of fans waiting when one guy came up to me (cutting in line) and began firing off rude questions. "Can I feel what your fake tits are like in my mouth?" "What does your mother think about you acting like such a whore?" He upset me so much that I took a long break. The only cool thing was the other guys in line (my true fans and gentlemen) ganged up on him and physically escorted him to the door.

I've also had guys try to put their hand up my skirt and once was even bitten in the face so hard that I had a black eye for a few days.

I will be the first to admit these instances are rare and far between. 99% of the fans are a pleasure to meet and talk to, but before you are quick to call one of the girls "stuck up" or a "bitch" please keep in mind that maybe she'd just had a similar bad incident.

I deal with stars everyday on KSEX. And YES, there are a few bitches in the bunch. But in most cases, especially at fan events, there are surrounding circumstances surrounding a bad moment with a star.

In the case of Tyler, I've seen her in action now in all aspects of her career for almost a year. I can tell you that she absolutely LOVES the attention from the fans that she gets in the movies, on the web and while dancing. The problem sometimes, and I'm sure this is the case with a lot of the girls, is after giving all she has for 20 minutes on stage, having to go back to the dressing room, changing into another outfit, then re-grouping to meet the fans, then going back, redoing her make up, changing outfits and then dancing again...over and over again through the night...it gets tiring. Tack that on to fans like Stormy mentioned who say things like, "yo baby, can I feel your tits" and "you're dance act is good bitch" and the other rude things some fans can say...attitude will begin to creep out.

It's not just dancing, it's at conventions, signings, etc. It seems like a glamour thing for these stars to be featured at these events and in some regards it is. But talking to fans, all day long, some who are disrespectful, haven't showered, ask ridiculous questions like, "what were you thinking in scene two of the movie you did in 1999 when the guy asked you about global warming?"...it gets tiring.

I'm not making excuses. The stars should still put on that smile and get through it...I'm just telling you to give 'em a little slack. Being in the spotlight is NOT as easy as one may think.

I totally agree with you Katin & Devinn Lane are on a higher level of treating all people well which includes fans than most females are. I do have to say I notice your "big thumbs up" list has contract girls and feature dancers while your "negative experience" list has gonzo performers mostly. I think there is something to that. The gonzo lifestyle doesn't allow for a lot of down time. Thus not a lot of time for responding to e-mails and things. ALSO pornnookie, you don't have a clue what a real negative experience is. sure, there are some exceptions here but let's face it-the whole concept of something like fan-day at avn is so utterly fucked up the only way you'd get me there were i female pornstar is with tranquilizer darts or at least the promise of seconal. i mean, everyone who comes up to you came to a city morally corrupted enough saying that's where you're taking time off to visit without the porn angle probably raises eyebrows at the office. someone has to ask them who they're going with, are they shameless enough to say "i'm going alone to stand in line to meet the girl with the most beautiful anal gape i've ever seen"? do they make something up to hide their passion of watching and reviewing 4 hours of porn a day? or worse, do they have a "porn buddy"?

so by virtue of being there, they've jumped a major hurdle towards being at least a little creepy. you've got hundreds if not thousands of semi-shutins that have convinced their neighbors are alcoholics due to their daily slinking into their houses clutching brown bags milling around. you should be having a panic attack by now, at least i would before opening fire. then the lines dictate they can only see so many performers during the day so it's not a random thing they're coming up to you--they've got a notebook with every scene you've done summarized somewhere. they know who you are, they've spent more time staring at your vagina than you have and more money buying your dvds than on the child-support they're not paying.

the words in the conversation you'll have could be anything, but the thing communicated will be the same for ever fan---that they flew somewhere because they're really, really into jerking off to watching you sleep with marc davis. "oh my god, i just shook her hand, you have no idea how many times it's pleasured myself to you". just smile and tell yourself their hands were just sweaty. i have no idea how these girls are poised and civil at all, the studios must have them searched amazingly-well for cyanide pills.
