So I have watched porn develop over the last ten years and it recenly hit me just how much hardcore porn has gotten especially in the last 7 years. I recently see a trailer for anal academics - new movie with Jenna haze and in the trailer they feature gaping. Gangbangs cum slams all see much more common today than in days past. Where is porn heading next? 5 years ago it was a2m 10 years ago it was the dp. What is next? Also do you guys think that porn has gotten more hardcore?

I think there is definitely more anal sex in porn, but can't say I'm convinced porn is that much more hardcore than it was ten years ago. I think both Lex and Jules were just sort of starting out back then, and the stuff I watch today doesn't generally move much further than that. I think there are clearing some now more willing to push the envelope, both of the production and performer side though. I just think it gets more press and maybe sells more dvd's and downloads, making it seem likes its more than what it really is.

I see there being a split in porn, between lots of girl only and lots of crazy anal productions, with fewer middle ground productions.
I've got plenty of porn theories, one of them is all the girls who would be *amazing* at the softer b/g scenes are the ones who, thanks to the expanding internet audience, have filled out the softcore girl-only segment. What you're then left with is a collection of girls where anal is a necessity to make them interesting on camera they just don't work out too as well in softer scenes. And there are always exceptions to this, just speaking in large generalities.
I'm serious, though - I've lost track long time ago the count on how many comments I've read of someone who write they cannot watch pussy sex, it's too boring, always fast-forwards to the anal part! It's either the act or the girl that is boring, and I believe it's that all the great girls find their niche in solo/girl only productions Take any one of such people, anyone going to tell me he won't be excited in the least seeing Jana Jordan with a professional cock in her pussy?

No big shift in my opinion.
The percentage of girls doing anal is higher. So there's a bit more anal. And american gonzo has increased its market share. Maybe 10-20% increase in both, but as I said nothing huge. There is some more niche stuff available as well, BDSM, Max Hardcore etc that might be more "hardcore". A bit of increase in the trend of portraying girls as underage as well.
I'm not at all excited about most of these trends, but I don't think its going overboard like many others argue.

Definitely.
I've watched a specific niche become quite a bit more extreme than it was 10 years ago. Only when you step back and compare something from 10 years ago to something recent do you really realize it though.
As JownW mentioned, I think the near future will start to tend toward more of an empshasis on a BDSM, Max-like direction... soon enough Max Hardcore won't be as hardcore as he seemed. Certainly that sort of thing will become a bit more mainstream, maybe not quite the Max standard though. It worries and disturbes some people, but excites me. ;)
This might just be wishful thinking on my part though.

7-10 years?? Take a look at a popular title from the 90s. Then one from the 80s. Then one from the 70s, and so on. There have always been "extreme" stuff at the fringes, but the fringes have been moving mainstream and new ground gets broken on the fringes.
I suppose things will stabilize at some point, but I don't know when. I certainly don't see it happening anytime soon.

When Aurora Snow and company set the anal bars in their beginning of their career they did anals and DP:s in every film it felt like and she and a couple of others come to mind as doing a lot of DPP and DAP aswell. Today it feels like there is way less scenes with this kind of hard scenes. All those gangbang girl videos from the sam time vouch for this aswell. I dont know when this period lasted exactly but I would guess 2000-2003 maybe. Feels like it ended when Keri Sable retired.

Stuff seems kinda tame nowadays compared with 10 years ago. Barely any DPP/DAP's going on these days. There's way less stuff that borderlines on almost being too hardcore. DPs aren't as frequent now either. At least in American stuff. Euro stuff is a completely different story. I think that Euro is way more hardcore than American stuff now. That's how it appears to me at least.

If anything, porn is becoming less hardcore, if circus acts is your criterion. The gangbang is just about dead. DPs are not as frequent, and the DPP and DAP are endangered species. It's even harder to find blowbangs. I haven't seen anyone slurp semen out of a pussy since a hot scene with Aubrey Addams a couple of years ago. You don't see girls signing on to break any gangbang, bukkake or swallow records.
I don't think there's a lack of willingness on the part of the girls in the industry, and I don't the the regulatory climate is any different; I think the economics have changed.
There's new ground to be broken, and plenty old ground that can be re-covered, but it's in terms of eroticism, not just the depiction of extreme hardcore acts.

Perhaps nowadays porn is so plentiful and readily available that many porn-fans have changed the way they choose their porn. They can't easily choose porn according to sexual acts in it. Because there is too much to choose from, and they can't watch it all. The only reasonable way for a guy to be selective in porn now is to get to like a few porn-superstars and follow their sexual exploits in the films they make.
Porn-fans still want to see anals, DPs, DPPs, and gang-bangs. But it has to be their favorite porn-stars who do it with the guys and not just anyone. Perhaps that's why Brianna Love's anal films sold well, while other hardcore porn didn't do so well. And now 'Big Wet Asses #15' is at the top of the charts most likely because the big-breasted beauty, Gianna, is finally spreading her nice ass for the anal guys in the film.
Hardcore alone isn't enough anymore. Porn-fans want to see the most attractive ladies in porn do hardcore.
If Gianna starts doing DPs and gang-bangs. Then porn-fans will flock to see her. But if some obscure porn lady does that. Then she probably won't get much attention.

I must say I am very unsure, I do kind of think things have changed a lot but I can't quite put my finger on what those changes are.

erik everhard's JailBait series seems to have taken max's place since he is imprioned now, at least in my mind. not as hardcore, but almost creepier because they just barely get away with it/technically don't portray anyone as minors. it has the same creepy vibe, just glossier and less violent/extreme. i wish they could collaborate somehow.. now that would be great.

My gut response is that porn was trending towards more hardcore scenes in the early part of this decade, peaked a few years ago, and has become slightly less hardcore within the last few years. I am thinking of the non-fringe middle of the road common porn when I am answering this. I see far fewer DPPs and DAPs appearing than I did a few years ago. Here are a few possible reasons:
Some of the companies that were created as copy cats or minor variations on Red Light District and Anabolic / Diabolic went out of business or have been drastically down-sized in terms of output. These were the companies that sprung up in the gonzo and all-sex gold rush that occurred in the first half of this decade when everyone wanted to own their own product. Some factors contributing to their demise were piracy, over-saturation of the porn market with a product that was not noticeably better than that of established companies that were doing the same things with the same girls, the gradual shift in distribution and format, lack of management skill, etc....
Well established companies such as Red Light District and Anabolic / Diabolic are no longer putting out as many movies focusing on rough sex, DAPs, and DPPs. This could be due to consumer demand as well as some of the reasons I mentioned above.
More extreme or hardcore acts are less likely to appear in movies that are not marketed to that niche. Perhaps companies have learned that these activities are somewhat polarizing; viewers either love them or avoid them. Personally, I am glad that there is a lot less quacking and gagging in the porn I watch.
Many companies may now be choosing to be more cautious because of the recent legal troubles of Max Hardcore and John Stagliano. Likewise, distributors may also be more cautious due to the unfortunate plight of 5 Star DVD.

I take issue with the phrase "more hardcore" which may be because, as an old perv, my involvement stretches back to the days when hardcore simply meant "involving the depiction of the sex act," period.
I think, rather, that, since porn was de-criminalized in the early seventies or thereabouts, it has become more extreme, focusing on acts more about the unusual than the erotic: anal, gaping, ATM, violence, etc.
Some of this may be to breathe new interest into what is essentially something that has, of itself, very little variety to it-- fucking. Convinced that prurience isn't enough to keep their audience, some porn producers seek to be more daring, outlandish, even disgusting.
Some of it certainly is to attract a new and, to me, disturbing, audience for whom sex is more about degradation, humiliation, violence and contempt for women than it is about the greatest of mutual physical pleasures.
Mostly I see it as porn makers taking the easy road to profitability. Becoming more scatological, more shocking, more disgusting, is a lot easier and seems safer than being more creative, more realistic and more erotic.
In 'the old days' the new genre of 'mainstream porn' was in the same theatres as "The Godfather" and "The Odd Couple." They were competing with plots and acting and the real sex gave them a dimension of reality and appeal that the propriety restricted major studios couldn't match.
They did a hell of a job sometimes. "The Devil in Miss Jones" is a stunningly good movie on just abut any level. Actors like Annette Haven, Jennifer Welles, John Leslie, and Jamie Gillis, in addition to being consummate erotic performers, were actors that didn't need to feel inferior to anyone in Hollywood. Compare them with Brando in "Last Tango In Paris," if you have any doubts.
Even earlier, when just possessing a porn movie could get you the same jail time as possessing hard drugs can get today, actors like the late Bettie Page lifted the cheap bondage sleaze of Irving Klaw into the realm of the beautifully erotic.
That's what's changed about porn. It hasn't become more hardcore. In the hands of too many lazy, incompetent, indifferent producers, it's taken itself voluntarily back to being dirty and shameful and even criminal.
This isn't to say that all porn has regressed. However, absent the competition for theater space that it once faced, porn becomes increasingly about getting something -- anything, the cheaper and easier the better -- in a glitzy box and out there on the shelf where it can earn twenty bucks a copy.
Take it from one who's been there: there wasn't much that was really good about 'the good old days.' But legitimate porn began with a promise that sadly it did not and I fear it never will keep.
